You survived Iron Helm! All that RPG experience really paid off. I agree with the praise of the lovely artwork (that reminds me of old school AD&D or even original D&D artwork). Also agree that it doesn't really 'feel' like a dungeon crawl (though the theme is clear) mechanically. I find it good for a quick and cheap faux-dungeoncrawl experience when I'm not up for the complexity of d100 Dungeon or solo D&D.

Love the old school art style...brings me back to when I played the Lone Wolf books as a young teenager.

Yeah, I agree the art does remind me of the Lone Wolf books by Joe Deaver and illustrated by Gary Chalk; such fun books!

I've been really curious about this game. Love the art! Thanks for the video.

The Dungeon Dive Yep the art is right up (y)our alley. The game is super light with no narrative development or tactical play. That said it is an enjoyable push-your-luck filler. The art is a lot of the charm and appeal. If you go in with the right expectations you won’t be disappointed. It’s definitely Descent or d&d in a box!

I liked Desolate but it really needed the two Dark Matters expansion packs to bring it up to a good level of polish. It doesn't work well without them.

OMG! You ARE my type!! First Deckbox Dungeons. Then I see you at Dark Ventures and now at Iron Helm!! You are playing all the games I like to play!!

These 3 games all popped up on my radar in the past month. Which of the 3 are your favorite. Dark Ventures looks to be the most diverse and heavily themed above the rest. Too bad its hard to obtain.
@GeekGamers014 жыл бұрын
@@crushingit5128 They are rather different but superficially the same (fantasy-themed card-based games in (relatively) small boxes... DV is the most complex; is an overland adventure with lots of branching (pre-written narrative); DD is a tactical dungeon crawl and of intermediate complexity of the three--it has various scenarios with minimal story but (sometimes) differing goals; IH is the lightest of the three with some 'plot' cards that get repetitive after just one play and are really just a way of giving choices. It's a "dungeon crawl" but has no actual locations, really. DV: if you want a deep, complicated game that generates story DD: if you want something tactical in a small box that offers "Descent-like" play IH: for a filler game with a fantasy theme and great art but which may get repetitive and is score-based for victory conditions. DV is score-based too but with so much else going on it doesn't feel that way.

@Mercury2wo These are all fun games, albeit quite different (as I replied below). It isn't solo out of the box really but have you played Dungeoneer? You might like that as well, if you like these three. I did a vid on it and there are many solo variants posted on BGG. Another card-based dungeon crawl with both overland and dungeon themes.

The Skinkling in the card looks almost exactly like a kobold from the monstrous manual AD&D 2e. I mean really the same. Even the same pose.

Seems to not be for me. I've tried many similar "solo dungeon crawlers" and I just can't get behind the randomness they typically offer. On the other hand, I also dislike overly narrative or guided stories like you see in adventure game books like the Lone Wolf series. I've discovered I need a sandbox with some randomness, but randomness that feels well tied to the world. Barbarian Prince and The Drifter are my go-to choices these days. I'm starting to wonder if I really need anything else.
@GeekGamers015 ай бұрын
I love Barbarian Prince… wish someone would take that model and make other games with it. I’ve covered The Drifter and Space Drifter on the channel and enjoy them too. They don’t feel as “open world” to me as something like Barbarian Prince tho. If you are at all interested in a space theme, you might try to track down the old game Star Smuggler, which bears some resemblance to BP, albeit set in space and with some more complicate (some may say, convoluted) rules.

I fell in love with this game! And created a “Dungeon” and players board for it! Trying to capture immersion and that crawl feel! pbs.twimg.com/media/EOqLOJXU4AAE9iT?format=jpg&name=large

@GeekGamers014 жыл бұрын
They did! And I was surprised.... it's just my typical cheapo penny sleeves that I get by the thousand (Ultra Pro soft sleeves). Warning tho: pack size can vary slightly from pack to pack in width so if you are looking for a totally uniform feel/size you might want to look elsewhere.

Loving your channel, as a newcomer to board games Dungeon Crawlers are my thing. Especially light weight, fairly quick games. Have you tried Bag of dungeon?
@GeekGamers014 жыл бұрын
orbiting decay Thanks so much. I’m glad you are enjoying the content. I haven’t tried Bag yet but I did watch someone else’s vid on it and based on that I think it would be a bit too light/underdeveloped for me.

@@GeekGamers01 ah ok good to know.Yes I was on the fence with it but now looking at this, I think this is better suited for me. I only have Escape the Dark Castle but this looks like it will scratch the same itch.

I see they have expanded the base game with a loot and lore pack. Have your tried that, did it help improve your experience? I also here they are releasing a dungeon pack but I think it's an easy mode.

Great game, I have everything for it including expansions. Desolate is also another cool little game, it NEEDS the expansions though. If you haven't, you might look into Escape the Dark Castle it's decent fun as well.
