This 1927 film covers a transportation fair organized by the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad at Halethorpe near Baltimore, the oldest railroad in the United States, celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the invention of the steam locomotive. It begins with a short overview of the history of transportation in the USA before the invention of the steam engine, from Native Americans on horseback to Stage Coaches after the Civil War. This is followed by a presentation of different types of steam engines from the B&O but also from other operators across the United States and Canada.
