Iron Lotus is a bit of an anomaly of Mili's Project Moon songs, as it's one of the only boss fights in Library of Ruina that doesn't come from a character's broken mental state. As you delve deeper into Mili's "To kill a living book" album, you'll see that the relatively upbeat nature of this song is such an anomaly. For the rest of the "To kill a living book" album other than Iron Lotus, you'll be getting a lot of melancholy as broken characters with broken wills challenge the titular Library, distorted beyond recognition. Iron Lotus is the exception to this, someone who felt such despair of losing everything, but chose to reinforce their ideals instead of succumb to them. That's why you'll find Iron Lotus is so much more positive and upbeat comparatively.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to call it an anomaly within the album, but it's the one that has the least morbid context in-game. String Theocracy and Salt, Pepper, Birds are also upbeat even if the lyrics are way harsher.

Fun facts of today's Mili song.... yes in plurar, because this piece is FILLED to the brim with idioms, symbolism, pararelisms.... I'm not going to tell everithing tho' just some details But first of all, the song is (ver obviously) chinese inspired, this is because it is centered around a couple, specifically the woman, of a chinese-like branch of mercenary organization "Liu Assciation" (Liu being 6 in chinese, other numbers are other cultures such as the spanish-like branch Tres, the japanese-like branch Shi or the korean-like branch Hana... 3, 4 and 1 respectively) the story of the couple is basically: they were both polar oposites, working as the heads of diferent areas of the Liu Association, the man cared a lot for his subbordinates engaged with them and mourned the dead, while the woman was dubbed the maiden of iron because of her apparent lack of emotion, over time curiosity drove them together, and that blossomed into love, but because they were working as basically mercenaries, they promised each other to live even if the other died, one day the man got assigned a very dangerous case to investigate and well... he didn't make it, the woman, instead of upholding her promise got so shaked she dimmited her position and charged headfirst to avenge her lover, her subordinates followed her to the place the man died because of the respect they had to their boss, even if she was no longer their boss, in the end, her blind rage ad the danger of the place the man died left only the woman, and her second in command... he managed to made the woman realize blind rage was just suicide and that she needed to tame her fury and channel it if she wanted a chance of victory, soon after the second in command died, left all alone the woman clicked, instead of falling into rage or despair, she found courage... this song plays after that happens that is why the song is filled with lyrics of remorse, not feeling like herself, doubt and sadness... but also energy and determinartion... remember she was supposedly someone emotionless, and the song goes "why did you leave?" "don't let those words out of me" "you showed me I still had an umbrella full of love inside me" "I do have one regret" (also, she literally hold herself of giving a last goodbye to her lover before he parted to do his assignement, and that is the woman's greatest regret) there is also the candies, 3 of the chinese words correspond to diferent tipes of chinese candies with some sort of subtext, these are: Huameitang (話梅糖) = a hard and sour plum candy White Rabbit/Naitang (奶糖) = a soft milk candy with an edible rice paper wrapper Maiyatang (麥芽糖) = a maltose candy to quell the bitterness she is feeling, to swallow her words with sourness, the pure love of the Naitang, to call on how even if she succeeds, the fact she resigned and went rogue ment she is finished, there ar a number of interpretations with the candies, some more obvious than others... there is another chinese word thrown in the lyrics tho', cán xiāng (残香), " 'Cause when I thought that every nice thing about me has become canxiang" this is not a candy, this is translated as lingering fragance, and is again playing with her being "The maiden of Iron" she has to numb every "nice" part of her, leaving ALMOST nothing behind Finally "I banged the drums, court of hell, demanding a new trial, you got the wrong head would you take mine instead?" this is something I heard, so take it with a massive grain of salt, more than the rest... apparently in ancient time, local chinese courts would often put gongs or drums at their doors with the sole prupose to challenge the court in question if someone thought there has been a misjudge So... the woman is, in the most imposing form possible, going trough the whole "It should've been me!" stage of grief, triying to bargain her head for her lover's yes, I know I wrote A LOT compared to other times, but I really wanted to share some this insights on the song, both for people who played the games and those who don't Keep in mind that most Mili songs have the property of being detacheable from their source that is to say, Momocashew writes the lyrics trying to make them work IN context, but also OUT of context, so, knowing all this things is not necesary to dig deep into the song and it's themes, this is in a sense, just another perspective

I recommend checking out the soundtrack of Memento Mori. It's a gacha game where every playable character has a unique song with both a Japanese and English version. They are quite diverse, though most lean towards melancholy, especially with their lyrics. I feel like some of them could be very interesting for these types of videos.

Hearing this song in-game is great, but then when you go to see the video Mili made for it, gives it such a different feel lol. The little marshmellow being really do be swinging it's tush around, it really is distracting. 'Poems of a Machine' is still arguably my favorite from the game, but I also hope you get to experience some of the non-Mili tracks from the game. Those also deserve some attention for how great they are, especially with how they change dynamically in-game!
