VINTAGE TV/VHS RIP Collection #10
In the 1980s and 1990s I used to record on VHS everything related to music that I could catch on TV. Lately I ripped it all in DVD that was ripped again in video file and finally uploaded here. Enjoy!

Not a bad album "per se": it just had the bad luck to come after Somewhere in time and 7th Son! But if you listen to some randomic playlists of maiden (I mean with songs not ordered by timeline), tracks from No Prayer do not seem so bad in the end.

That transition at 1:33 with Martin saying “Janick’s more off an aggressive player” and then they pop up that silly video of him playing a toy guitar in a pool made me chuckle hard. So glad they added Jan, seriously. He brings so much to the table and established himself as a masterpiece composer in the band. Love this era

Jan is a GREAT songwriter and a good guitarrist on studio albums, my """problems""" with him are: 1 - his guitar tone which I absolutely hate (Adrian, on the other hand, has THE BEST guitar tone in heavy metal!); 2 - he's INCREDIBLY sloppy live...in spite of his attempts to counteract this sloppiness with his awesome stage presence, which I love, I hate when he butchers Adrian's former solos...all in all, still a great addition to Maiden...I think the three guitars line-up works incredibly well

Although I am happy with the present Maiden, I love what they did with this album. It is a vital part of their catalog...a beast of an album. I think many bands have reacted with a "basic rock album" after a "perhaps too pretentious rock album". metallica with the black album went that way somehow I think. it's not the way I personally like, I think basic is magic when it is what it is, basic, and not thought to be basic. anyway thanks for commenting and sorry for being late, please subscribe for more stuff and iron maiden debate! :-)

In truth Martin Birch felt rather uncomfortable and uneasy recording with the mobile unit in Steve's barn. 100%. Especially the drum sound suffers a lot. Just my personal opinion, but I think they could have remedied this by leaning harder on using the close mics, rather than as much room mics as it is now - it's the room that isn't very good and it really shows on this album.

This interview always bothered me, where they're discussing Jannick vs. Adrian. I appreciate that Jannick was the new guitarist and they need to move on from Adrian, but Steve's comment that Jannick was more of a "natural lead player" hasn't aged well for me. While I hear Jannick's leads as somewhat on-the-edge and scrappy, Adrian's leads are all virtually perfect - memorable and singable. The perfect complement to Dave's on-the-edge bluesy rips.

I don't think Steve is running Adrian down at all. Janick was used to being the sole Guitarist in White Spirit and Gillan so was used to doing solos. All Steve said was Adrian initially was more rhythm and harmony which in his book he talks about being a front man in Urchin he was happy doing. Joining Maiden he had to quickly adapt and play more solos which he did brillianty and as Steve said he was a great songwriter and backing singer. Hardly doing him down.

Yeah. I totally agree with you. Maiden truly lost their identity, when Adrian left the band. And even more, when Bruce left the band.

This was where I lost interest in maiden. Janick was sounding too much like Dave, And in my opinion vastly inferior to Adrian. And who knew eh, Adrian said the sound they were going for was a step back. Thats what I thought too.

Yeah, apparently Steve wanted to go back to the more ‘raw sound’ of earlier albums ‘cause they were getting mixed reviews on their ‘prog’ sounding albums (SIT and Seventh Son) 🤷🏻‍♂️

Janick was still a pretty good guitarist and a composer actually. But yes, Harris lost the plot completely on this album.

i still kept an eye on them until fear of the dark, just by inertia until the Bayley clash. but I find a couple of underrated songs in this album Run silent run deep and The Assassin. thanks a lot for commenting and please susbscribe for more Maiden videos (check last one: Maiden Man)

I love Steve Harris but he did talk some bollocks after Adrian left. For me, Adrian’s solos were the most carefully crafted and melodic in the band and while I think Dave is technically as good, Janick isn’t anywhere near. Just my opinion.

I've been a Maiden fan since 1982. No Prayer for the Dying was a horrible album. That's just my opinion, everyone is entitled to one. First song was good and it went way downhill from there. The tour was fantastic. Fear of the Dark wasn't much better. There's a reason why Bruce left. The song writing returned on X Factor and Virtual XI, and of course Brave New World is simply epic.

Lol! There's worse songs on the X Factor and Virtual XI! And by the way. Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter is the ONLY Iron Maiden that had ever reached number 1 on the British music charts!

Next to worst album (worst being Final Frontier) for me. Production was the worst, Steve is kidding himself here. Also hear the excuses for the sound issues. Bruce wasn't happy either. Thank god they got much better yet again.

Nope. The X Factor and Virtual XI were the worst Maiden albums of all time! (Fact) The Final Frontier is the best album after Brave New World in the 2000s! (In my opinion).

@@thewildbruce5612 nah mate, the X Factor is a masterpiece. Virtual is admittedly weak but Futureal and Clansman are decent. Brave New World is Excellent. Final Frontier is just sub par.
