It's very clear they love what they do, especially still touring in their late sixties (or in the drummer's case 71 and still going despite recently recovering from a stroke), quite incredible. The Clansman Live at Rock In Rio 2001 is another of theirs worth a listen, or Dance of Death same concert

Bruce Dickinson is the singer, Steve Harris is the bassist and main songwriter, Nicko (pronounced Nick-O) McBrain is the drummer, and Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, and Janick (pronounced Yan-ick) Gers are the three lead guitarists. I would recommend either The Talisman or When the Wild Wind Blows both from the En Vivo performance and both extremely underrated in reactions

Maiden Is very melodic. It's a defining trait. They brought the Sing-a-long to heavy metal. Everyone at their shows sing. Hallowed Be thy Name live at Hammersmith 1982 is a great watch & listen & my fav show (best live vocals). Also The Number of the Beast is great (among their many hits).(not satanic. fyi). Bruce is truly tireless. He flies their 747 (latest incarnation of "Ed Force One") between shows and runs around for 2 hours+ during these shows. Tempo changes are common. Key changes too, but less common. Maiden is from the highly palatable bands from the early 80s like Dio, Scorpions, Judas Priest (mostly), Motley Crue, & Def Leppard (hard rock).

There's no hidden message lol. I can only think of one song that's a hidden metaphor... Powerslave, which can be read as the grind and ecstasy of being in a touring rock band. That's a great song to check out... Maybe the live after death version from long beach California.

Great reaction, thank you👍🏻 Welcome to the Maiden family. Iron Maiden are metal royalty. They were among the founders of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, most of which hailed from Birmingham such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Def Leppard, Saxon and Diamond Head. There are often a lot of tempo changes in their songs and they're the masters of transitions. Many of their songs are accurate accounts from history or inspired by classic literature. The lyrics can move at a fast pace so you might want to have the lyrics in front of you so you can appreciate the songwriting genius. Maiden have an extensive back catalogue and it's all killer no filler. It's up to you what you check out next because you can't miss with Iron Maiden. My personal favourites are Hallowed Be Thy Name (The Beast Over Hammersmith in 1982 is the definitive version), Dance of Death, The Clansman, Paschendale, Alexander the Great, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and, of course, The Trooper. Enjoy the ride and.......Up the Irons!!!

Many people will have a lot of recommendations for Iron Maiden, however, each and everyone will tell you that the one thing they recommend is seeing them live. They are still touring and currently are on their Future Past Tour into 2024. So that is my recommendation, they have been performing for over 40 years, so their will not be many more chances to see them and of all the bands I enjoy, I'd recommend Iron Maiden above all others.

Saw them here at the Ottawa Civic Center in 88, still the most amazing band i have seen to this day, just as much energy now as back then, great choice! not bad for a bunch of guys in their sixties, well the drummer is 70 now, Steve Harris the bassist is by far metal's greatest bassist and Bruce (singer) is always full of beans🤘 Up The Irons!!! as we like to say, i would suggest Hallowed Be Thy Name newer live version, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Dance of Death, you can't go wrong with any of their stuff.
@erikthompson619

It's actually quite literally a song about nyctophobia, or fear of the dark. Iron Maiden, and especially their founder, bassist and chief composer Steve Harris who wrote the song, are very much "what you hear is what you get". Their lyrics always cover interesting topics - the battle of Britain, white man's heinous conquest of the Native American lands, missing your family on the road and a multitude of literary works, to name but a few examples from their most beloved songs. And there are rarely, if ever, any hidden messages between the lines. Even something like the classic "The number of the beast" only appears to have a hidden, sinister message to someone unaware of the context: as in, Steve Harris waking up from a nightmare of the movie "Omen II" and describing it in lyrics. "Fear of the dark" the song is fascinating in how universally beloved it has become by the band's fanbase. Fans have a tendency to never latch on to a band's more recent material the same way as their earlier stuff. But Iron Maiden's first album arrived in 1980, and "Fear of the dark" is the 1992 title track of their ninth studio album, so on paper it wouldn't have become THAT popular. But it is - at this point it even rivals the biggest earlier classics for the title of Iron Maiden's signature song. Very much the same as "Thunderstruck" with AC/DC (if you know the reference). And it wasn't even released as a single: fans just discovered it, plain and simple. It is, of course, a fine example of the semi-epic but yet anthemic songs that is one of the two main composition types associated with Iron Maiden. The other being the shorter, punchier but still very grand singalong hard rock anthems. Both types (as well as additional subcategories) usually characterized by the Iron Maiden "gallop", as in that recognizable groove created by Steve Harris's signature, lightning-fast bass lines. The man is a genius, not only as a songwriter but also on his instrument. Definitely on the top 10 - no, make that top 5! .- of most influential heavy metal musicians in all of history.

and for the alchemy between them they are very close in age around 65 only the drumer is "older" (70) but with the singer as the youngest (64) the guitarists (65) and the bassist ( and leader) (66) and having played along for this long yes they are close to each other at least on stage! and for the "melodic" aspect of the band that's mostly the case with heavy metal bands one of the influencies of the style bein classical music, you MAY make an error when thinking " metal" there SO MUCH diferent style of metals metal is not a style of music it's a familly you will haves things like " cradle of filth" ( black metal), pantera ( modern trash metal), megadeth ( old school trash metal), linkin park ( nue metal) , elluveitie ( folk metal) and MUCH MUCH more! it's a familly of styles not a style ( for exemple " type o negative" that is sean as " gothic metal" but are using 2 style of it mostly "dark cave" and " cold wave")! so saying "it's metal" don't mean anything it's like saying " it's clasical music" beethoven and mozart are pretty diferent!

Maiden are famous of their great song structure, changes, great unique melodies, harmonies, beside the wide-ranged vocals, prominent great baselines. So yes, there a very melodic, dynamic, powerful, and versatile! They balance heaviness with a lot of melodies, even the heavy parts are melodic and moderate in general! And they are theatrical and dramatic in the most part! And yeah, their lyrics mostly have deeper meanings shown in metaphors and literal ways in many songs! They talk a lot about existential things in the form of history, novels, mythology, stories, personal experiences. Most of their songs have the double meaning! “The unkown” “walking alone when walking the “dark road””, that’s just examples of metaphors and deeper meaning! In general it’s about fear of the “unknown” which is a big thing and universal experience, even literal fear of the dark is universal in different degrees and shapes, the total darkness, not with some lights, like being in the savannah in the dark lol, just with the light moon that actually increases the tension lol! It’s universal and genetic, and everyone experienced it in different ways even if it’s not mostly total darkness with danger (or without) because we have lights, electricity, relatively safe and expected environments

King Charles better get off his a$$ and knight Bruce, I won't be happy until he's referred to as Sir Bruce Dickinson! To really get an idea of how devoted the fans are, this is 50,000 people in Chile that know when to sing their lines, Maiden's largest audience was 250,000... let me rephrase that, a QUARTER OF A MILLION PEOPLE (1985)! **My bad, Google says their biggest crowd was 350,000 (40k more people than the entire population of Cincinnati).

In the 80s I never saw Iron Maiden live, nor did I buy there records. I was a huge metal fan we just had to prioritize our entertainment. However, I managed to catch their live show in San Diego last February and lordy, there was little kids and their grandparents and parents just ready for a good time. I have to say, Bruce at his age never lost a step, theatrically. His voice was astoundingly powerful! And Nico on drums was superb!! Of course, we all wanted to see Eddie and Eddie we did see 👍 I've seen Judas Priest a few times, been on stage with Motorhead so long my ears went bad for weeks. But when I die, I can say I am glad I bothered to pay 120. to see the band cut loose. All the tempo changes create mini episodes for prolonged listening pleasure -- exactly the reason I put an 1800. soundsystem into my Benz. Bruce has always been a storyteller, btw 😉

I like that you are getting into Metal and Iron Maiden in particular. However, and please understand that this is far away from dissing, I am very surprised you know so little about them. According to their record company Iron Maiden has sold more than 80 Million records (80.000.000 units), which makes them one of the biggest bands this planet has ever seen. Not knowing them is like not knowing Coca Cola, although you are not into Soda LOL. Anyway, nice reaction nonetheless...Keep it up! BTW: Up the Irons

Bruce has to be somewhere in his 60s here. Absolute legend. The positive vibes that this band has are undeniable, and in stark contrast to their 80s "Satanic Panic" reputation. And those South American crowds are insane! Check out their song The Clansman from 2001's Rock In Rio. Think less hooded hillbillies, and more Braveheart as far as that title goes. And if you haven't seen Braveheart, you should.

I Love Iron Maiden. Michael Henry "Nicko Mcbrain" is there most accomplished drummer and this is also after they picked up "Janick Gers" guitar player. They had to shut down the whole city in Rio DE Janeiro Brazil for this and all concerts Maiden played there.

They love their cricket, football, (the proper kind, of course), & they are a kick arse band from England. Can't believe they're nearly fifty years old! Bruce also not only can fly, but he has also been a champion fencer! He has represented, & I believe, may have medalled in this event for Great Britain in the Commonwealth games. Bruce has recently retired from flying Ed Force One.

Great job with your reaction to Fear of the DARK from Iron Maiden and you can thank Steve Harris ( the Bass Player) Fears of the Dark for this song because he wrote it. Those people from South America love there Heavy Metal and RockBands and there music. Lead Singer is Bruce Dickinson and he is the captain piolet for there Jet when traveling on tour.

From the other comments, this is going to be an unpopular opinion. Bruce Dickinson is a really good singer and, like you, I admire his stamina. But, Iron Maiden as a whole band is kind of,... meh. I don't think they're bad; I just think they're not very exciting. Not my go to band.

This is probably their most accessible song. But they are never the hardest metal band to take. They do not do gruff vocal. And they are not heavy into distortion. But the album that is most popular with heavy metal fans, Piece of Mind, is more straightforward heavy metal. On the other hand, they were clearly influenced by prog rock. Steve Harris explained their shifting time signatures because they grew up listening to Genesis. The changes in tempo that you noticed mostly comes from this. For more than 20 years they have really become a progressive metal band. The influence was always there but it comes out fully with their 13 minute Rime of the Ancient Mariner. They also like storytelling. The Dance of Death is a good example. A harder edged version is Paschendale.

Should have done album track. Most times? "Live" sucks. Tempo is is always sped up for an extra finishing track and not a great overall track selection for show. I stopped video as soon as I saw live and deleted from watch history. Now Tommie Emmanuel can do some great great things and he knows not to speed live perfomance
