NO WAY! I've been waiting on this one and nearly gave up! Thank YOU and KURT! I really hoped you enjoyed the performance and stage show as much as you did the vocal performance. This makes me do my happy dance of death. Watching someone hear and see something for the first time that has given so many people joy is amazing. I'll never hear Dance of Death for the 1ist time again, but seeing someone else do so is more gratifying than the song itself. Did it invoke the same feeling when we first heard it, did we get excited, how did we feel after? Seeing someone go through that range is a gift we take for granted.

The Green Day crowd at Hyde Park in London did every bit of the song from start to finish when Bohemian Rhapsody played over the sound system there. Worth a look for crowd involvement too. Bands like Maiden and Queen just bring out the magic in people.
@ryangossett82113 жыл бұрын
@@Scottred77 I know what you are talking about in terms of the Green Day crowds singing along to Bohemian. I saw that video...it was very moving. What I am specifically mentioning is that US crowds do not "Sing along" to the instrumental portions of Maiden songs like they do in Europe and South America. For example, the first time I heard this Sing Along phenomenon was a live version of Fear of the Dark off of one of those Live Albums they put out in the mid 90s. I can't remember if it is on a Real Live One or a Real Dead One. That version was I believe recorded in South America and the crowd participation was phenomenal! Goosebump City! I picked up a different live album around the same time (maybe a bootleg??) that was recorded in the US with absolutely NO Crowd Participation on any of the songs including Fear of the Dark. I have heard this Crowd Participation several times since then for several songs (but especially Fear of the Dark) and they were all non-US based shows. I have also only had the pleasure of seeing Maiden in concert twice (Chicago and Indianapolis) with no crowd participation.

To answer your question about Jannick's stance whilst playing his solo: it's definitely harder as he has to balance the guitar as well as having enough stability to hammer down and pull of the strings. I can't wait to see your lovely reaction! One of the great performances of Bruce, but if you want to listen to something that truly pushes him to his limits, give "The Talisman" a chance. He doesn't move from his spot, with his eyes closed, which is extremely rare. One of the hardest songs of IM to sing and he nails it! Also: -Empire of the Clouds: Bruce's 18 min-long masterpiece. He recorded this song with a tumor on his tongue. He also learned to play piano for this one. It's a complex song about the R101. Alas, they never play it live because they need an orchestra for it. There is even a section of Morse code for S.O.S, one of the most interesting songs you can listen to. I won't even mention Bruce's epic delivery, gives shivers down my spine every time I listen to it. -Paschendale: Great live performance with lights. Successful pairings of intensity of lyrics and musical power by IM. -Seventh Son of a Seventh Son: It's a concept album actually but the title track is a must listen if you don't have the time for all of the songs. The epitome of Maiden's musicianship. It's basically a rock opera. Incredible vocals. Keep up the great work and up the irons!🤘

If you decide to do "The Talisman," just know that it is the perfect example of "Park it and Bark it." However, it is also a great example of how to create a set list that let's you conserve energy and your voice for the entire hour and a half or longer show. For "En Vivo," "The Talisman" is the 5th song. It is a difficult song in that it is at the top of Bruce's range for much of the song. Next, Bruce addresses the crowd, resting his voice by talking. Be careful though, he drops a F-bomb in the middle of his introduction to the next song, "Coming Home," which is a ballad of sorts. THIS would be an amazing song for you to breakdown, not only because Bruce sings it almost entirely in his mid-range, but also because he spends a majority of the song standing, balanced on the edge of his stage monitors! After this, comes "Dance of Death." So, in these three songs, we see Bruce "Park it and Bark it," conserving bodily energy, a spoken section/ballad to rest his voice as well as "Parking it" on the edge of his monitor in a horse stance, I might add. Followed by the crazy antics/singing in "Dance of Death." This setup shows the band's intelligence when it comes to conservation of energy an Bruce's 60 year old voice. No wonder they've been around for so long! Up the Irons!

The commentary on audience participation and comradery is such a colossal understatement. I saw Iron Maiden live on the Book of Souls world tour (the first time they've ever come to my country) and the way they inspire and engage with the crowd cannot be fully felt until you experience it live. We were about 60 thousand, ranging in ages from 16 - 80 from all walks of life, united in our love for Iron Maiden. There was this unspoken solidarity in the crowd, with a bunch of big, Burly biker dudes to my Left, and Susie the retired accountant and her Husband that only listens to Jazz on my right, a bunch of high school kids... all of us, random strangers, linked up like a sports team singing their national anthem, belting out the lyrics to Blood Brothers at the top of our lungs. I am a long time follower of this channel, but even longer Iron Maiden fan too. Couple of special things going on in this song`s performance: Bruce is in great shape for this one. Not very often you see Dave Murray Playing a Gibson Les Paul. You can see how Janick is enjoying so much the band´s performance in this one, as he wrote it. This is the best Janick Gers best solo ever in my opinion, 22:00 . All three absolutely killed their solo... but Janick was completely in the zone, played a very difficult legato section.... with eyes closed. We are all fans and we always remember how much merit all the members of the band have. I will use my turn to praise Janick Gers: An accomplished songwriter which brings so beautiful stylish songs to the band, a uniquely styled guitar player with elegant notes choice and melodic sense, with incredible presence and movement on stage. Also all around kind, generous guy (he helped Blaze Bayly with songwirting when he most needed it to fill such big shoes as he had). Love all the guys but I shout out to Janick today. Cheers all!

22:40 for me personally, that position while playing guitar is incredibly difficult. Mostly because you have to stabilize your guitar with the same hand that is playing the notes, it severely limits your hands movement speed and to an extent your accuracy. Luckily the speed of your fingers doesn't really get changed by that position.
@desli3627 Жыл бұрын
You see I actually prefer this position when playing fast notes. I just feel like having my arm "closer" to me helps a lot

As a fellow guitar player, I agree to this stance, i have very mutch problem when it comes to solos to play at this stance, just bcus i need to hold the guitar at the same time i need to move around with my fingers, he is a special man janick, but practise i quess xD love him, love the way he show of, and hes style, casting around that guitar, oddly stances and so much more.

I think Iron Maiden is not playing for an audiance, but with the audiance. I see it everytime when the band give them a place or a guided solo in the song. 🙂

Hi Elizabeth, I'm glad you're reacting to another Iron Maiden song/video, and I loved this performance. Bruce's vocals were amazing, and I was really impressed by the (3) guitar solos. I especially enjoyed Janick Gers, who had an energetic stage presence (doing the, "Jig," while playing guitar). Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙

The thing that I have found most incredible about Iron Maiden is that they have reached the worldwide level they have, despite the lack of radio and media support throughout their history. They didn't get the radio airplay. They did it on their own, their way. You should check out Bruce during his speaking tour where he will sing a Maiden song accapella. Great stuff.

Miss Elizabeth, you just nailed exactly everything that describes Iron Maiden best. Everything Bruce sings is a historical lesson an adventure! He is the ultimate frontman and storyteller! And secondly, the fans are rabid and dedicated Beyond any other fanbase on the planet. This is Iron Maiden in a nutshell

Im late to the party but yeah....the look of amazement on your face is exactly what drew me to the band at 12...my Dad plays bass and he turned me onto Maiden when I was young. Suffice it to say I've NEVER looked back. You should see them live. Theyre almost 70 now and the energy has come down a bit but they still ROCK and nothing I've ever seen comes close to the way they treat their fans. It'll be a cold cold day in hell when they call it quits. But hey...they deserve it for everything they've given to fans like me and the rest. UP THE IRONS!!! MAIDEN FOR LIFE!!

That reaction to Dickinson jumping was a serious highlight, haha, so good. I'd love to see Elizabeth interview Bruce and see her ask him about the stance, the jumps and everything. Just lovely reaction. As for requests, I've recommended these before and here they go again: Helloween's Skyfall, Rhapsody of Fire's Lamento Eroico, Cradle of Filth's Her Ghost in the Fog and Amon Amarth's Fate of Norns.

She might explode hearing Dani Filth's screeches. I am a 6 octave Dramatic Tenor and I still can't figure out how to do that! Hhhaha, I think you need to be a midget. I am 6'4 300lbs, with Bruce's voice essentially with Halford range, might be too big 😅

When you talked about him "defying all rules" when it comes to singing and movement --- I have literally seen a clip of him falling off one of the monitors mid-verse, landing UPSIDE DOWN, and somehows his vocals were 100% uninterrupted. Like, if you heard it as audio, you've have no idea that the guy had tripped, let alone falled on his neck. It's like his lungs are the Planet Express ship from Futurama.

Iron Maiden have steadfastly produced gold throughout all of their eras. Bruce is simply magnificent and perhaps my favorite of all time. Just massive.
@JulioMarchi2 жыл бұрын
I didn't see anyone commenting about the guitar playing position you asked about. In fact, there is not more or less difficulty on playing with the guitar neck pointing up. Sometimes it can in fact make it easier to drive the hand up or down the neck. However, at their level of music skills, most of those movements are mainly to make it cool to watch. They play very difficult arpeggios with high precision, multiple transitions, and tapping elements. At such a level of action, it does not really matter the angle of the guitar... Besides, they are not only moving the guitar neck, but they are running, jumping, dancing, playing with their band mates, and (in some cases) spinning the guitars or even throwing them to the air to just pick them up and continue playing... Search for it online. It is awesome! In terms or band, Iron Maiden musicians are, each one of them, a show apart inside the show!!!!

When the Bruce Dickinson itch starts surfacing again, perhaps consider listening to the live version of Tears of the Dragon with Tribuzy. It's a song be wrote as part of his solo career and that version might well be his best vocal performance he's ever done as it's so emotional and powerful, and sounds great! 🙂

Another epic Iron Maiden song is Seventh son of the seventh son. You sould listen to the live version from Rock am Ring. EPIC performance
@Seminole602 жыл бұрын
Iron Maiden's "Seventh Son of the Seventh Son" with its perfect pre-chorus and Bruce's perplexing vocal delivery, as well as containing one of the most powerful riffs ever written (during the time change after the intro). The verses feature this constant technique where Bruce will belt out a long “Oh-Oh-Oh” followed by the guitars playing the same melody next. This vocal-instrumental call-response is such a cool technique and is honestly one of my favorite parts of the song. Bruce starts reading a spoken word passage super eerily, and afterward, the guitars begin to cut back in. If you listen on headphones, each guitar is placed in opposite ears, again creating a killer call and response dynamic. The canned choir also joins in, and the mood is really heavy and ominous. I would love to watch your facial expressions as you critique this song. A must!

As far I know, the crowd engagement with a rock band started with a Brittish Band in the seventies called Slade. They were a glam band on their records but on stage they were a teister of power, asking all the time the audience to join by stomping their feet and clapping hands, all this queen took it to next leve and Iron Maiden mastered and dtill master it. I have seen Maiden several times since 1989 and it is cool to see that the crowd is part of the show, giving the band that extra energy to be even better performers on stage. It is so cool to have several 10 000 or more dpening on the venue to join in sing alongs and feel the closness btween the band and their fans. In all I have seen 350 + concerts in my life and Maiden shows are among the top nothch. about Janicks pose while solo. You have to remember that the venues are huge and some people are pretty far away from the stage, so big gestures gap the distance to every one at the show. It is not the most comfortable way to play the guitar solo but one way to show that you master it, while add interest to the crowd. I play guitar mysel and the best position to play a solo as far I go is sitting down on a confy stool with a guitar has a great balance and not have tendency to dive down. By the way, I have seen you doing some o your reactions and they are entertaining and you have a pretty good education on basics of music in general, far better then many who does reactions. Cheers from Sweden!!

My favorite version of this song is actually from Death on the Road where I think Bruce’s performance is a little better but this one is pretty awesome. Another to note about the energy of the band on stage is every one of these guys were at least pushing 60 in En Vivo! Edit: Janick’s hand position might actually put a little less stress on his wrist but fun fact: Janick Gers is left handed and plays a right handed guitar.

Their storytelling capabilities in lyric is one of my absolute favorite things about them. “Where the Wild Wind Blows” is also from this concert and is criminally underrated, but, if you really wanna hear Bruce tell a story, how about “Empire Of the Clouds”?
