Yes, the Nazis put warfare 70 years into the future, but their ethics were pure barbarism. (which makes it all the more disturbing so many were brought over through Operation Paper Clip to dictate American policy ever since. Space program, mind control, Mengele experiments, etc.)

Actually, my friend, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz during the Nuremberg trials, stated that the Submarines of the US Navy were fighting an unrestricted submarine war against the japanese from the very day the US entered the war. This statement was brought up by the defence of Großadmiral Dönitz when the Judges wanted to trial him for the Laconia order. The Laconia order had been given after U-Boat crews that were rescuing the survivors of the recently sunk auxiliary cruiser RMS Laconia, from what i've read armed and under british flag and therefore a legal target under the rules of war even without surfacing and giving them the chance to surrender, were bombed by an US-American B-24 bombers. After hititng the ship with torpedoes, the crews were shocked to see, that it was full of italian PoWs (of whom a nice amount were shot or bayoneted to death when they tried to flee the sinking ship, or had their hands severed with axes when they tried to climb into live boats) and civilians. When he heard this Dönitz immediately called 7 U-Boats that originally were scheduled to attack Cape Town to help the rescue attempt. The U-Boat crews, acting under Dönitz order and against Hitlers wishes, had painted the red cross onto their ships and signaled thatthey wouldn't attack any ships that were coming to assist the rescue attempt. They were loaded to the brim with survivors, additionally, survivors were riding ON the u-boats and life boats were in tow. They even let a british soldier radio a message: "RAF officer speaking from German submarine, Laconia survivors on board, soldiers, civilians, women, children." Then, a B-24 spotted the Submarines and reported this to it's superior who decided: "sink the sub!" The B-24 dropped multiple Bombs and depth charges onto the rescue attempt. The crew was rewarded a medal for sinking one U-Boat. They didn't sink a single one... instead one of the bombs dropped right among some of the life boats. Destryoing two of them. The U-Boat crews were forced to cut the lines that bound life boats to their ships and had to order the survivors from the (outside) decks of their ships to dive.
