I am a longtime Maiden fan and this live version in Chile was so breathtaking! That crowd, the energy and Bruce Dickenson’s voice was so overwhelming! That has to be one of the largest crowds ever, does anyone know how many people fit into this stadium? Wow !!

I’m not sure about this concert, but I know when Iron Maiden did Rock in Rio 2001, the audience had about 250,000 to 300,000 people in it. Absolute legends.

Been a Maiden fan since '84 & they ALWAYS put on a GREAT show! Got to them for the first time on the '86 Powerslave tour with Twisted Sister opening! THIS one was Santiago Chile April 10, 2011 so it WASN'T that long ago! Don't make me feel older then I am! 🤣

Steve Harris (bass) of Iron Maiden says that no studio "patchwork" was done on Maiden's live records... the only work that was done was syncing the instruments and the crowd singing... and balancing the audio levels on the recordings and 'cleaning up' the feedback and sound glitches. So what you hear is what was being played that night. There are bands that 'overdub' their live records in the studio (Van Halen, Kiss, come to mind) but Iron Maiden is a purely live band, like AC/DC, Tool, Aerosmith... Yes, this was Iron Maiden headlining a stadium tour of South America in 2011 on the 'Final Frontier' tour 2010 - '11... They were a 5-piece band from their debut in 1980 until 1998 (Vocals, bass, drums, 2 guitarists) ... But when vocalist Bruce Dickinson reunited w/ Iron Maiden in 1999, they also brought back guitarist Adrian Smith... they didn't want to fire guitarist Janick Gers (who replaced Smith in 1990) ... So Maiden has had 3 guitarists since 1999 w/ Dave Murray... Steve Harris is the bassist. Best live Maiden songs - "Fear of the dark" ... 'Heaven can wait' ... 'Phantom of the opera' ... Iron Maiden was always a 5-piece band (1 singer, 2 lead guitars, 1 bass, and 1 drummer) from their first album in 1980 up until about 1999. Bruce Dickinson replaced their initial singer (Paul Di'Anno) in 1981 and stayed with them until he left to go solo in 1993. One of their guitarists (Adrian Smith) also left in 1989 to do other projects and they replaced him with a guy named Janick Gers. Iron Maiden released 2 albums with a replacement singer (Blaze Bayley) but they didn't have the same success with him. In 1999, they invited both Dickinson and Smith back to the band, but instead of dropping Gers, they decided to continue with 3 lead guitarists in the band. They have been a 6-piece band ever since. That thing he’s wearing is a replica of the coat of a member of a light cavalry unit of the British Royal Army in the 19th century, as would have been worn during the Crimean War, about which this tune was written. Specifically, it was written about a tragic historic battle resulting from bungled communications in which a lightly-armed cavalry unit was ordered to conduct a frontal assault against an heavily defended Russian position, resulting in a slaughter of an enormous number of British soldiers. The battle was commemorated in a poem called ‘The Charge Of the Light Brigade’ by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, in which he praises the valour of the men who followed orders and charged the Russians with full knowledge it meant certain death. (‘Light brigade’ refers to light cavalry. I remember reading this in high school and everyone-including mi instructors, thought it had some shite to do wiv ‘light vs dark’ or some bollocks.) Today we would expect the next in command to refuse the order, as it’s fucking insane, wasteful, and gains us nothing. But it’s only recently that military philosophy has allowed for ANY amount of individual autonomy. In the 19th Century, even in ‘enlightened’ countries such as America and Great Britain, refusing an order would be a guaranteed conviction at Court-Martial and either life in prison or the firing squad.
