Fantastic reaction, thanks.👍 With many Iron Maiden songs you get an accurate history lesson. The Trooper tells the account of a British soldier in the Battle of Balaklava during the Crimean War. Lord Cardigan led the British cavalry against Russian forces during this battle on 25 October 1854. Lord Raglan had intended to send the Light Brigade to prevent the Russians from removing captured guns from overrun Turkish positions. However, there was miscommunication in the chain of command and the Light Brigade was instead sent on a suicide mission charging straight at heavy Russian artillery which cost the lives of around 300 British soldiers. Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote a poem to commemorate this disaster and he called it "The Charge of the Light Brigade". The bronze that the recaptured guns were made from was used to make the Victoria Cross, a military medal of the very highest order that was awarded "for valour" and designed by Queen Victoria herself. Very few of these have ever been awarded, even to this day. I've been a Maiden fan since hearing their debut album on cassette in 1980 when I was 10 years old. I've seen them live every time they've played in London, their home ground and mine, and they never disappoint. Up the Irons!!!

They were probably inspired by watching The Lone Ranger with its galloping them music. The song is, actually, based-on Tennyson's famed poem: "The Charge Of The Light Brigade" (which took place at the battle of Balaklava -Yes, the term "balaclava" for a "full head facemask"-type "hat," or whatever, came from the name of this neighborhood.-), during the Crimean war. The British and French were allied with the Ottoman Empire (and I believe there was at least one other party ...maybe 2, also in the alliance🤷- I am not recalling all of the details, right now. Apologies). Anyhow: "The Charge Of The Light Brigade" (the event. the circumstances. ....) was, essentially, fatal and the British lost the battle, but Tennyson made the events legendary and 'a representation of bravery and loyalty;' which was (and maybe, still, is🤷 - I have no idea) taught and reiterated in British schools and homes. I have always preferred (no: ONLY liked, actually) the Paul Di'Anno version of Iron Maiden (the first 2 albums). 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I have to give it up to Number Of The Beast because Clive Burr is still around (And that is NOT to dis. Nicko McBrain! Nicko is a great player!). ...but for me: Maiden without Di'Anno or Burr is a limp, wet, noodle.

@@dawnpatrol700 No. I don't "deny" him. I, simply, prefer the Di'Anno era songs and style. ...and, after all: Dickinson was hired, basically, because he could recreate the "Killers" yelps/screams! 🤘🤘 ... Dickinson is great at what he does. It, just, generally: isn't for me. That's all.

@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra there was a teenage angst type of punk energy, that they lost immediately with Bruce. Running Free and Sanctuary are examples of the type of music they would never do going forward. Prodigal Son and Strange World, also. In those days, i bought everything Paul-related, the running free / burning ambition 45, all the uk12inchers, Paul's 84 solo and Battlezone. Speaking of UK 12inchers - the live version of " I've got the fire" is total punk, I would never guess that's Iron Maiden, and an example of how much they changed after Bruce. That being said, I like their post-Paul stuff, just not as much
