Iron Ore Powermining Guide for New World - Leveling and Gold Making (5k+ Ore, 6k+ Gold p/h)

Open beta edit: Camps have now been reduced to a 500m radius, and the "Respawn" button has been removed from the game menu. Dying to reset at a city is still extremely viable -- just make sure you're closest to the city in which you want to spawn when you die. You can place a map marker on each city then check your compass to see the distance to each one (and which is closest).
Recorded during closed beta. Gather rates and prices obtained and calculated by myself. Will update if things change on full release. See newworld-map.c... for a useful resource showing where most (not all) nodes' static spawns are located.

@@Jota_505The herb-swamptar trick is where you use a herb on a swamp tar and mine at the same time, allowing you to get an iron ore in 3 ticks as opposed to 4-5+ when using lower tier pickaxes.

Love the information here, correct me if I'm wrong but could you not check in with one of the Inns (In this case Everfall) and use your free fast travel to get get back once you have done the eastern Everfall route and then rinse and repeat?

You can use the inn, but it's only once per hour. Only works for about one out of every four runs. Buying a 2.5k gold house and spending a small amount of Azoth to reset the cooldown for the other three could work pretty well.

Whether or not the iron sells for a lot is only part of the point. The mining skill ties into armor, weapon smithing and stone cutting/jewelry making. This makes it possibly a very lucrative skill for higher skill level crafters.

Hey! Iron is probably the best gold/hr you can earn mining (except for maybe orichalcum?), so I would never drop it unless I was just dropping a little bit to make space in my bag. Banking doesn't take too long if you deathskip or recall to a house/inn.

Do you think trying to be rich in this game is worth it? Like does the currency have value? Do you think its worth on launch to focus on going to lucrative areas and selling them (resources) on the first week for some good gold?

That's a good question. Currency definitely has value given the existence of a player marketplace and territory purchases. I think going for wealth or not depends on what your goals are. If you want to own a territory, going for wealth early is absolutely necessary because they cost 100k. Two good hard grind days of 6-8 hours could earn 100k off the bat before all territory on most servers has been claimed. I think that's really cool and am tempted myself to just hard farm gold to get a zone I can govern. If you're not going for a territory purchase, I wouldn't recommend focusing so hard on earning gold unless it's just what you find fun. You'll get enough gold just from quests, mobs, etc. to just buy the basics and maybe some materials for town board quests - no need to spend time specifically set aside for gold farming.

​@@bushidoGF No problem! I used most of mine for training skills to test everything out. When I did sell them, I tried to use global/area chat to avoid losing a ton of money to listing fees + taxes since so many people need iron ore/ingots. If I didn't have any luck, I'd sell the ingots on the market of whichever city had a higher price between Windsward and Everfall (the two most popular trading zones on my server). Windsward was usually better.

Would you recommend turning pvp on/off when you farm? If it's on you may lose time pvping but you may also kill your your competition.

For efficiency, you definitely want PvP off. Pretty much everyone farms with PvP off, so it's unlikely you'll have a chance to kill your competition. It's much more likely you'll run into a gank squad of 3+ and die, halting your progress and resetting you to a city/camp.

@@VtheVictim And that's what sucks about this type of system, the 1st come 1st served wow style of gathering, he with the fastest mount wins!! If you can't take it off the person "stealing" it, then they need a ESO style where everyone gets it, or its just frustration! :(

What's the respawn timer for an iron node? How about silver? What is the estimated xp per hour for these routes?

The respawn timer appears to be around 10 minutes, but I think there's some variability. Not sure about silver as I never tested anything with that resource. Are you interested in mining xp or level xp?

@@pepponi Thank you! If you're getting the amount of ore I do, you can expect around 20k mining xp/hour. That translates to ~3-4k normal xp/hour as well.

Great guide, but one issue is that there's most likely not going to be a kill yourself button on release. Depending on your level and where you're mining it may take a bit extra for you to actually die. To counter that you can always time your free fast travels (houses / inns) and just do quests in between runs to wait for your timer to reset. Using Azoth would get pretty expensive if you're trying to use a shrine.

@@TheImpatientGam3r Because it's common to have "fix it" buttons in a Beta that wouldn't be in the main game. When you're not phasing through mountains it's not really needed.

@@primal9238 WoW has a unstuck button and multiple ways to kill yourself ff xiv has teleport and /return commands, its very common in mmo to have unstuck options and ways to kill urself, most open world games infact have some way to do this. Otherwise it would be aton of effort to manually fix every character that runs into any glitch

How much Fae Iron did you get total with 160 mining? I got 22 with 143 mining.

On my way to 160 mining, I think I got around 130-150 fae iron? Maybe a little more. I always had mining luck on my tools, and I noticed a big spike in how much I was finding around 150+ skill level.

@@redquiring6687 It is when you put gems in the weapon, when it has an empty gem spot (rare+ ). Gives you a specific bonus and a glowing effect (different depending which gem you use)

I maxed out all the gathering skills and hit 152 engineering during the beta. These routes are great but in my experience these are too long. You only need to mine about 2k ore in one haul before the nodes respawn. My point being that shorter runs might be more efficient as by the time you bank, smelt and post the ore the nodes you gathered will be up again.

Could be. One of the nice things about the routes I put in this video is that their density is about the same throughout, so restarting and mining respawns likely wouldn't get you any more than just continuing along the route.

Could be - I know even just fish oil + salmon for board quests were going for a ton of money on my server. Iron is definitely more consistent, but fish could have a higher ceiling.

I believe they vary by size. The smallest ones average about 10 min, medium 12-15, and large around 15.

Depends on your server's marketplace prices. On mine ingots were usually around 4-6g each.

there is actually a really good cutless keys route... lots of iron in a small circle that leads you back to the town, with a starmetal cave in the middle. just start at the city and make a circle around the south mountains around the town.

New World, Amazon's new mmo. It's in beta now and releases August 31st. Plays kinda like Skyrim but has a strong PvP focus. Its leveling is kinda repetitive and I don't think there's much endgame content ready yet, but overall it's been quite fun.

There are 4 tipes of wood to log and 2 of them are 100+ trees. Young and mature trees are how you lvl it. It just takes hours of time to get it up.

And the reason it takes hours is because nearly every tree in the game is cuttable. You don't have to search for trees. Just watch a movie or something and go from tree to tree.

Yeah, as Kensapi said, you pretty much just cut trees. I believe young trees are slightly better xp/hr than mature trees, plus you can get azoth tools that reward you a lot more for cutting trees quickly. I mostly avoided logging because it's far too slow (imo) compared to other skills.

Prices near the end of beta will likely not reflect prices in the early stages of the actual game whatsoever. I expect this to be a very strong gold farm given that iron is required for several town board quests and every higher-tier ingot.

@@TheDSSlayer It's possible, but given that there will also be more people needing materials to level their professions, I don't expect that to happen. Edit: Also, given how time-consuming and resource-intensive (particularly silver) JC is, I consider it not worth leveling at all. There are far better time investments for the gold you end up earning, in my opinion. You're very welcome to prove me wrong and become a JC magnate on your server, though.

It's quite possible, yeah. Hopefully Amazon does a better job of banning them than many other games do. If nothing else, the $40 purchase price per account is a good barrier to have compared to, say, $3-4 for Old School RS or WoW.

I don't mean to come off as a buzzkill, but I feel like, videos such as these, kind of ruin the experience. Power-gamers, min maxing, etc. Take the wonder out of the game and turns it into a conveyor belt of tasks. I know I don't have to watch videos like these, I likely won't, but the endless amount of videos have already explored near everything in this game and it's not even out yet. Feel free to comment if you disagree, I'm sure many people do.

I understand where you're coming from. At the same time, though, some of New World's crafting skills take a very long time to level, and iron ore is a component of almost everything in several skills. You might find you need 20k iron ore (or more) to train, say, engineering - even just to level 100 or so. In my opinion, there's no wonder or magic in having to run around farming 20k ore. It's just a grind I want to do as efficiently as possible to get back to the stuff I find wonderful and exciting. Guides like mine here are for people and situations like that, and the people who think they ruin the wonder and fun of the game can simply avoid watching them.
