Perturabo's issue was that for all his talents, he had little actual understanding of people. He could build the perfect system, but he neglected the people who had to go into that system. His own homeworld rebelled because his way of war took entire generations due to having to sustain such rapid recruitment. The Black Judges used to take dozens every few generations, Perturabo took HUNDREDS in a year. His justification was that those he took were HEROES not fodder. But he treated them like fodder and didn't even have the decency to thank them for their sacrifices. And when a delegation from Olympia was sent to speak to him, he slaughtered them. Everything was black and white with him, to the point of being unreasonable. He's an unbalanced Guilliman. He's a multifaceted individual with talents that go beyond war but he has none of the realism and maturity.

More like an unbalanced Lion El’Jonson. But Jonson is pretty much unbalanced himself so Perty is like an extreme version of the Lion.
@TresBS14 жыл бұрын
@@magnusthered5994 To extent, the Lion wasn't good with people but he was also self aware enough to know that and he understood the value of such things. Perturabo disregarded it entirely until it boiled over. I also make the connection to Guilliman because both are Primarchs who are concerned which more than just war. The difference was that Guilliman was always doing more than just war and preparing for the day when the wars would be over and you had to focus on maintaining worlds, people and culture. Perturabo wanted to build, he wanted to contribute to art and philosophy. He wanted to add to culture. But more importantly, he wanted to be thanked. He wanted to be loved. But, ironically, he pushed away all the people who would have loved him (his adopted family). Ultimately, you could compare Perturabo to several of his brothers but it all comes back to the same: Perturabo just didn't have the personal fortitude to endure. Everything rankled his pride or shamed him and due to his personality, he had no close to help shore that flaw up. All he ever had was his fragile pride. Just my thoughts.
@magnusthered59944 жыл бұрын
TresBS1 Well I think that Lion’s loyalty was fragile throughout the Heresy and even before it like Perturabo, but unlike Perty Lion didn’t have a massive daddy complex. Also, Lion was a man of war and nothing else. Overall Sanguinius seems to be the best out of the bunch.

All they have left to fuel them is their iron will, and I respect and identify with them. If I were to be an Astartes, I'd want to be an iron warrior before anything else. *Iron within. Iron without.*
@launch44 жыл бұрын
The great thing about the Iron Cage was that no matter how it turned out once the Fists had decided to crack it the Iron Warriors had already won. If the Fists attack and fail to break through, great, proves they were better than those braggarts at siegecraft _and_ fortifications. But the way it really went down was far better. The Fists got to experience the constant grinding misery of siege warfare in order to finally break through, and suffer horrendous losses in the process, and after all that pain and misery and sacrifice what do they have to show for it? Nothing. I can just imagine the smug, spiteful daemonic Perturabo walking up to the battered and drained Dorn and whispering in his ear "How does it feel?" Ironically there was one way the Fists could have won, not only negating the intended goal of the Iron Cage in bleeding them white, but in demonstrating a kind of low-key strength that the Iron Warriors never understood. The strength to say no. After all it was an obvious trap, and would require multiple legions to effectively crack open, and that spiteful c**t Perturabo was almost certainly not in the centre of it. Better to leave them all guarding it like a prison of their own making than have them rampaging around the Imperium. The only legion who would willingly throw away their lives for no good cause was one that was too weak to face the fact of their own basic needs as human beings, like the Iron Warriors.
@ZeroNumerous3 жыл бұрын
I think many misunderstand why the Iron Cage was undertaken. Dorn was insane with fury at his own failure to protect his father. He did not seek to win, to contain the Iron Warriors, or to even show strength. He sought exclusively, to the detriment of his legion and himself, to kill traitors. Of course it was a trap. The Fists went into it anyway, because it meant being able to kill traitors. Of course Perturabo wasn't there. But there were traitors there, and they needed to be killed. Of course it would cost hundreds of space marines to kill those traitors. But no sacrifice was deemed unacceptable if it meant killing more traitors. Others may claim that nothing was gained from entering the Iron Cage, but the Fists will point to the dead traitors and be happy with that. This is why the Fists led the scouring, why the Fists went wherever there were traitors, wherever the fighting was thickest, and killed them. In time immemorial both the Fists and Ultramarines accepted the walking dead from the two missing legions. But after the scouring the Ultramarines alone accepted loyalists from the traitor legions. Because until the Iron Cage the Fists were inconsolably mad with rage, and even after the Iron Cage those Fists who were completely unable to go back to normal were split off into their own chapter, the Black Templars, and sent out into the galaxy to continue the great work of killing traitors.

Besides even if it was a lie that couldn't simply be considering what Alpharius said about dorn and the fact that the man "Never lies" besides his stubborness as well. It's practically nigh impossible, the breaking of the emperor might've even driven him to be more stubborn and defiant to catch this petulant man child and his barely notable legion. That the imperium lost such a great legion is a tragedy of Olympic proportions. What is even worse is how those they bemoan their dwindling knowledge and depleted numbers. So taken for granted were the Iron Warriors the Imperium does not even recognise they lost the only legion that could endure such a challenge. I just wanted to say, this has to be some of best work brother Baldermort. The audiodrama explaining the Decimation was one of the best bits of Great Crusade writing I think I've ever experienced, I loved that the Lieutenant was ultimately thankful for his decimation because the commander was right, he would not have had the stomach for what came next. Thank you for exploring one of the most important of all legions, as it is their fall that I think is most telling. The Iron Warriors more than anything fought the real Crusade: they're the ones storming the ramparts, taking the blows and never bowing to the foe. And yet, they fell. To me the Iron Warriors fall is one of the most tragic, as more than any of the heretic legions it is their blood that built the Imperium that they now seek to destroy. People see Perturabo and his sons as weak willed and have the gall to call them petulant! That couldn't be further from the truth, there is no force in the Imperium of the Great Crusade that sacrificed more than the Iron Warriors, and for their efforts and the efforts of their father they recieved nothing but scorn and not the respect they deserved.

"Iron Within, Iron Without" Such a simple yet profound description. But what no one seems to take into account, something that every single smith who's worked with iron, cast iron or cold forged iron, is that iron is brittle. No matter how hard you make iron if hit hard enough, if you strike it enough times...it...will...BREAK. The garrison duties, the bloody insurrections, the internecine rebellions. All in silent, uncomplaining muteness, because anything else would be "weakness". Instead of being tempered the Iron Warriors were hardened. Hardened again and again until all give, flexibility, dare I say "softness" was forged out of them. Until the day when the only one who could speak for them instead broke them with but a single word; decimation. Yes, the tale of the Iron Warriors is a tragic one, and their complaints and grudges are not without merit nor justification, but in the end they still broke. As all iron does when you hit it hard enough. "Iron Within, Iron Without"

The Silver Skulls are speculate by fans to be descendants of the Iron Warriors, despite officially being categorized as Ultramarine successors. This is due to a similarity in color scheme, chapter symbol and combat speciality (Siege warfare). Plus their gene-seed records are listed as being 'inconclusive' by the Adeptus Mechanicus and under investigation by the Ordo Hereticus. Heck, Sarah Cawkwell, author of the Silver Skulls book series, has stated that yes the chapter was founded by Barabas Dantioch's Iron Warriors, who were adopted by the Ultramarines.

Perturabo is most frequently compared to Dorn, but he has things in common with a few of his brothers: - He shares Dorn's stubbornness and affinity for architecture, both military and civil. - He devotes himself to crafting, enjoying the act of working metal just as much Vulkan. - He loves to read, like Magnus, and enjoys the study of history and the arts. - He shares Guilliman's love of statecraft, and dreamt of making Olympia a paradise for scholars and craftsmen. - He has a strong sense of justice and honour, like Curze, as well as a very changeable personality. If the Chaos Gods hadn't set Perturabo's personality off-kilter from the start, he could easily have been the greatest of his brothers... and yet he ended up joining the very beings who cursed and doomed him. That is one of the greatest tragedies - and ironies - of the 40k setting.

I find it strange that the fans of the imperial Fists decry the acts of Perturabo for his brutality towards his men, such as in his decimation. It’s strange because they will also argue that Dorn wasn’t equally at fault if not more so when it came to the iron cage. He fed his men into a meat grinder and refused to retreat when all logic would dictate that nothing was to be gained by continuing all for the purpose of... not feeling guilt. At least Perturabo done it to harden his legion, Dorn done it because he felt sad because the emperor almost died. Hypocrites. Iron Within brothers.

And that's why the Alpha Legion is my favorite everything I just heard iron within indeed. The Alpha Legion were despised and criticized and like the iron warriors it drove them forward. Unlike the iron warriors the sneaky ones valued even the non astartes agents were both valued preserved extracted and given a voice and role in planning and execution of operations. Also like the iron warriors the alpha legion themselves are not technically chaos marines themselves. Some probably are but like the iron warriors who are traitors who oppose chaos as well considering it a weakness the Alpha legion are traitors who may be loyalists though some alphas became chaos marines. They seem like perfect opposites.

I guess this also doubles as a reccomendation for a really neat little bit of lore if you, or anyone else, doesn't know what that is, especially if anyone is a fan of the deepest lore of the setting. While I'm at being obnoxious and asking for things, the Q'Orl should get a video, considering they are dozens of times larger and more relevant than the Tau (and the possible connection is delicious!), but are cursed with being the second race of bug-man-man-murderers in the galaxy and are thus doomed to obscurity.
