Finally! After watching twenty videos about dragging logs, I finally found a guy with the right idea! Every other video shows a perfect way to fill the logs with chainsaw killing sand except for this one. Congrats! Now it's time to head for the shop and get started building one. (probably won't be as pretty red and all, but it won't be expensive either)

For people that don't have heavy equipment and have a long haul thru the woods where a 4x4 won't fit or super wet ground, this is great. It's specialized equipment for people with specific needs. It's a smart design and requires little muscle power. I like it.

While just dragging logs is quicker. I can imagine if you dont want to tear up your trail by constantly dragging trees this could be a good solution. Also allows you to take it on a paved road without damaging the log. I guess it depends on what you need the log for and if you care about your trail or not.

Ya'll should have two units exactly like the rear arch. No crank winch needed. Make it much simpler to build with two identical units. Will be easier to use in snow also.
Send me your plans and a demo on how to use your setup.
@pocket83squared2 жыл бұрын
This is a lovely design. If I may offer criticism, it's that the log is acting as a bit of a liquid load, and thus the setup is probably quite prone to tipping. Such forces might be reduced by first lowering the log's front as much as possible, and then securing it at the center of its cradle, perhaps with a couple of rotating cams placed on either side to act as wedges. Further, adding a removable support to where the front axle would normally be might also be prudent, just so that the load can be rested and secured in the more natural, down, instead of allowing it to swing from above by chains.

4:35 IT DID FALL OFF! the log was reposition in the front... was obvious from the get go that he should have gone twice around the log with the chain and take it a foot more on the log. Also when he winch it up the hook should have been placed on the cross member to divide the weight of the log in half instead of grabbing the cable itself. But I know, they are trying to look smart.
Add a hook to the frame down low to capture the winch hook and save some time from winding in and out.

Great to use for skidding out saw logs you don't what full of mud. Cutting into dirt, gravel and stuff will dull a chain real fast, and mud is not desired when cut into boards. Also is nice that one person can operate it.

Pretty cool for fairly flat land but if you’re getting in hilly areas your ATV won’t have enough power to make it up hills with all that weight. My rancher 350 can only haul about three 24” wide rounds 16” long up a 45 degree slope on my atv trailer. If I had to buy another ATV it would be at least a 700 cc.

This actually is a decent way to bring logs in covertly. In a shtf scenario where power is out and logs are needed you can use a power inverter on your quad (mines a lot quieter than yours) and cut a tree down and trim it with an electric chain saw. Also very quiet.... Seems to me the biggest advantage is stealth, even though its painted red its fairly quiet, it can be made quieter easily. But the price is a bit much, I'll just make one myself for that price, and spend the saved money on more ammunition.
@NotoriousRG9 жыл бұрын
This would be pretty good for someone who isn't cutting a bunch of trees all the time. It may even work for someone who owns a really small tree company.. but even then, you'll mostly be cutting residential trees so you wouldn't even really need this but it is a really good idea. Just dragging the tree will get dirt caked to it & screw up a saw blade if you take it to a mill. Not to mention the drag marks the trunk will make if dragged. I guess it could also do some damage to your four-wheeler too by dragging it. It does seem a little time consuming to use but if you have time, no worries. Anyways, cool video.

Having all the safety equipment is only half the battle. Using equipment properly is the second half. You should never hook the wire rope to its self. You need a tree strap to wrap around the tree then hook the winch to that. There also should be safeties to hold the chain from coming out. The only problem I would have using this is that the trails I ride are too windy. I would only use the front half and drag back.
