In this episode of Iron City garage, Richie and Joe get to work on on one of the 1967 fastback Mustang that Pete recovered out of West Virginia, a month before. Normally cars like this that are recovered on the East Coast have very low probability of running, but who knows what Joe and Richie could make happen! Tune in and see for yourself on this episode of Iron City.

I am just a couple minutes into the video. I paused it to write this: If you can turn those neglected rust buckets into something resembling their previous beauty...I will be greatly impressed! By the way, at 63, recently retired office worker. I am trying to learn as much as I can about restoring beautiful cars. It's depressing knowing I will not live long enough to do anything close to what I am sure you can do, but it's very enjoyable to tinker on my project car 😊.

Watching you guys tinker,baby,beg,cajole,plead that engine to life remninds me of me and my dad. I was about 9yrs old,Dad dragged me out to field in the dead of winter (rural maine is bitterly cold) In the field were some ford trucks and cars..old..Dad was a Ford guy and needed an engine for his 62 F100 work truck..no money,no more spare engines in storage. Some guy told my dad if he could get an engine running in those junkers that he could have them. We spent 8 days in that field getting 3 '312 Y blocks going and 3 292 Y blocks going...that old farmer told my dad he could keep them all except a 312 which the farmer wanted for his 56 Tbird. Its great watching you guys

289 has 3 bolts on the crank pulley. 302 has 4 bolts on the crank pulley. You can put 302 heads on a 289. So head stamps may be misleading. Best way to know without pulling the starter, is checking the bolts on the crank pulley.
@bad74maverick1
@bad74maverick1 2 ай бұрын
Yeah, if that's a 302, it's not original to that car or the heads were swapped, but later he did say it was a 70's engine, so there we have it. A big giveaway for that to me is it has a 2100 D 2bbl carb (note the big pump on the backside top of the carb). The 2100D was used in the 70's for thermactor emissions cars. My 74 Maverick Grabber had one when I got it. I swapped it for a standard 2100.

Always liked the body style of the'67' stang fastback,sleek and futuristic ,made even more famous with the movie "Bullit" with Steve McQueen. Had a chance to buy one with straight 6 in the mid 70's for $400. That needed a paint job and some TLC,decent body, another time I had my head up my a$$ and let it slip out of my hands.

A fellow Lefty, Southpaw that is, and now I know ordering parts ahead of time is bad luck ! I've done that for my motorcycles and scooters and end up wasting money and having spare parts laying around that I may never use. I'll remember that. I still hav e an hour to go, you guys just unlocked the motor, so now to see what happens next. BTW, Those Prime Welders look AWESOME and the prices are amazing. I see why you love it. I know how to solder well, but never welded and don't need one, but it would be cool to have around for broken wheelbarrow, etc.

A great car (to start and when finished, some of that late middle ground not so much)..... My stepson inherited a VERY NICE one when he was 12, his grandma passed and her car she'd rebuilt herself was willed to him. He's kicking himself tho. While in the Marines, doing the recon sniper scout training, he got a fixation with bullet bikes and SWAPPED it for a Hayabusa or some other such stupid thing. He got deployed, it got stolen, he got a light check....... Now he'd give his left testicle to have his car back. Wisdom comes with age, huh?

The way the valve train looked and the lack of oil inside valve covers it looked like it was rebuilt just before parked. Nickname this one Crunchy as it let out some crunch noises when letting it down off that jack.

Is both 289 cars? The 4 speed in there is usually the wide ratio. 2.74 low. I get lucky with my 68, a 289 2V, with a 4 v swap and a 351C cobra Jet 4 speed close ratio with the 2.32 low and with the 8 inch 2.79 rear. It could do 100 mph in low, lol. I put it in a 428 CJ car a roller cam Super Stock, I dog ringed it and man that trans was tough, straight cut gears and dog rings in a 1969. A John Wick Black beauty!
