You have a real skill for clarity and pacing. I have used Adobe Creative Cloud for years but don't want to pay hundreds a year to rent software. Yet I could not get my head around Inkscape. What you did to make the shield was amazing! That's because I saw a tutorial from another KZbinr who made the same shield using a much more complicated process. He combined a rectangle with a oval shape beneath it and a triangle for the bottom. It took him several attempts to get sizes right of each shape to finally form the overall shape of the shield. Then, he perform the difference function I believe, to finally arrived at the shape of the shield with the one stroke line on the outside and fill color within. Your method was much, much, simpler! Even before you made the shield I could already tell you know your stuff with Inkscape. Great tutorial covering all the basics we'd need to get started. Can you tell me how to call up that list of tools at top of page? I'm trying to find the paintbrush to follow your tutorial and can't find a way to show the same tools you have at top of the work page. HELP!
@IronEchoDesign2 жыл бұрын
For sure! I think there have been some changes in Inkscape since I recorded this video. To get the toolbar on the top choose View from the top menu and towards the bottom of the drop down you'll see 3 choices: Default, Custom, and Wide. Change it to Custom and that will put toolbars at the top. Does that help? If you mean the modifications choices specific to each tool, make sure you have the tool selected and then they'll appear. Hope this helps!!

Just went thru the video on a 39deg morning in Florida. Got thru most of the stuff with a bunch of start stop rewinds as I duplicated the work. On the text to page once i had my cutout circle I just selected the existing "donut" and text to path to it and flipped and slid it around. Was easier than drawing another circle and guessing the size.

@IronEchoDesign2 жыл бұрын
Happy to help! Couple of quick things to check that might solve it. Make sure the rectangle is selected and on the Fill and Stroke Menu, you want to be on Fill. Sometimes people are on the Stroke section and click on Linear gradient, but then the gradient bar shows up and pencil edits seem to do nothing. The other thing to check is that the opacity slider isn't all the way to transparency. Do either of these help?

This comment is probably not related to this video but here goes. I am trying to create a shape for a tapered mug then be able to import the file and then upload in Cricut Design Space where I can then make openings for the handles and move on. I probably don't know how to search to find out how to do this (don't know the lingo). I want to make a shape that is 11.063 on the top, 10.813 on the bottom and 4.25 on the two sides. I have tried numerous methods of going to online label maker (tapered label) and the size is great if I want to cut out a template by hand. It saves as a pdf, then I do pdf to png. When I upload to cricut the lines are not crisp. So all I want to do is create a shape with these dimensions but do not know how or if this is even possible. Can you provide insight please?

Thanks so much! The last tool has been moved in Inkscape. A couple of others too. You can still find mirroring if you go into Path- Path Effects - Mirror Symmetry. Glad they kept that somewhere.
