I was born in '66 and over the years, saw you guys 33 times thanks to those mega southern California dates you used to do in the 80's. I'm old and disabled now, got the same thing Mick Mars suffers from but also, bad arthritis in my hands that killed any attempts at playing solos i used to enjoy. Watching this video made me laugh and appreciate that the time thats passed for all of us never took away our sense of humour. I just want to tell you how bloody refreshing it is to watch you play a song the way most of the rest of us play, imperfect, unedited, guitar, amp and bedroom sound gear and with the levity that all of us hoped our guitar heros had but never could be quite sure. The last show I saw was in Florida about 10 years ago and had handicap seats but was faced at the arena with a tower of stairs outside and an unbelievable lightning storm that blew in along with a new ticketing system that caused all of us to be sat outside until literally curtain time. Luckily for me, about 5 guys saw me staring at those pyramid of giza like steps and hoisted me up and carried me to the top and put their raincoats together to keep me and my son from getting soaked to the bone. It could've been a totally shit evening but the amazing comradarie of maiden fans allowed me to have a great time. I'll never be able to see maiden again because of being too disabled to get to an arena anymore, but this video was almost how I'd guess sitting in a backstage practice room with Adrian would be like and that is just about as much as I could ask for. Thank you Adrian. You are indeed one of the great ones for me because of your incredible humility. Plus, being a fisherman doesn't hurt either. 😎 Thank you mate.

I'm sorry to hear about your health problems blood brother. Sometimes life deals us some bad cards, but it's always good to have the music (especially heavy metal for me) to turn to when we are down. I'm hoping your condition will get better; medicine is advancing in leaps and bounds every year, and I hope a solution will be found for your health issues. I will respectfully disagree with you in one thing; I don't think you're old enough to call yourself old; I'm sure there is a lot more you can give to the world and your loved ones. The story about your last Maiden show is heartwarming, and truly shows the sense of brotherhood I believe every Maiden fan feels. In the past 5 years, I've studied a slew of history and the current book I'm reading is "The Might of the West" by Lawrence R. Brown, and in it, you read briefly about Persia (or Iran or Aryans) getting easily defeated 334-333 BC. Persia was weak even though they had conquered pretty much all of the Levant or Palestine/Mesopotamia/Egypt in the 100s of years before. They were ripe for getting rolled over. It's telling how Jesus spoke Aramaic, yet all the first "Christians" and written text were in Greek. The first "Christians" were Hellenic Jews. Alexander's time was well before all that though.

I grew up in a very religious family. My parents not so much, but all my relatives and the town I grew up in had a church on every corner. One of my D&D buddies was a drummer for the high school band and he got this album. I was immediately hooked. I made a copy on cassette and had to disguise it in a Linda Ronstadt cassette case! My mom actually thought I was a huge fan of her and she actually bought me one of her albums for my birthday. "oh he loves Linda Ronstadt. I see him listening to that in his Walkman all the time" lol it was Iron Maiden The Number of the Beast I was actually listening to. I had a Black Sabbath cassette in a John Denver case.

This band is pure metal. Above all, they are all clean and don't seem to age and lose energy, one band where all musicians are equal. I think Maiden will play and release albums for another 15-20 years

Great to see Adrian playing like this, flaws & all, he's always been my favourite guitarist in Maiden I was gutted when he left the band in the late 80's, love his lead tone & the way he constructs his solo's, I had hours of fun playing air guitar to his solo on 22 Acacia Avenue from the Live After Death album which is one of my favourite's from him, especially that version, & his lead break in Prodigal Son is so friggin good !!! Cheers...

it was live after death on vhs in 86 that my dad realized he liked maiden..at first he didn't want me listening to devil music and he caught me watching it and he said i like them and he said he was wrong about them because he thought they was also a bunch of tattooed freaks. i think i got my hate tattoos from him.

Flaws? This man plays really well. There is this popular KZbin show in Russian where a dude picks apart the technical playing skills of many famous guitarists, pointing out flaws and showing how it can be played better. Long story short, skilful famous guitarists are few and far between. Adrian's playing here is mercifully free from the most typical mistakes that dude points out every time (at least as far as I can see and hear).

I think people dislike it because it shoved Total Eclipse off the album, which is arguably a better track but lacks the absolute brute force of this tune. I like both a lot!

Maybe because they never played it live, and Steve always said he did not really like the track (along with Invaders). Personally I love it and just hearing the drums takes me back to being 10 years old again
@j_freed4 жыл бұрын
It's a good punky riff, but the middle section is quite lame. That's OK. Not like they really workshopped this song. I also feel the writing can get pretty lazy on Powerslave, like some of the songs they felt 'ehh, sounds good enough.' It's not nearly as epic in terms of sheer amazing songs, but the band is playing incredibly well, and has a looser more natural feel than Piece of Mind.

Well said. Chemistry of Number of the Beast album is unique, something that cannot be duplicated. Clive + Bruce + Adrian = EXPLOSION of great music and energy. When Nicko joined, band changed, missed something... however I think Piece of Mind carries influences from Clive's drumming on Nicko. And he may admit it. But smoothly that was totally gone.

What a guy, Adrian just seems so humble and down to earth, a classy dude and one of my favorite guitarists of one of my top 3 bands. Been a fan since 85' when I was in the 8th grade. The first album I heard of theirs was Piece Of Mind and it changed my life. I soon went out and bought Number of the Beast and then just started going from there. I've always loved Gangland and Number Of The Beast is my favorite Maiden album. The eighties was a great time to grow up and I listened all of those albums and literally wore them out on cassette and vinyl! From Iron Maiden through Seventh Son Of a Seventh Son, those were great times and they are still going strong as Book Of Souls proves that. A fantastic and legendary band! Up the Irons indeed!
