What an inspiration!!!! I was a spectator in Coeur d' Alene 2012 and from that day I to wanted to hear those words. December 1, 2013 that inspiration paid off!!! I’m shitting my pants…. I’m doing this next month 6-27-2021. I must stop being afraid of failing, watching this brings me to tears… I’m not fast in any of the stages… In the video , one of the guys says that part of the experience is the people from CDA, cheering and such…. I don’t know about that…. I’ve been there last week to check out the course… the locals are sick and tired of all the visitors and tourists… I got pulled over within 15 min I was at the lake. I think the people that come with the triathletes are the true supporters, the locals not so much. Maybe I’ll change that opinion during race day

I don't know where you live or how you intend on training, but I strongly suggest you train in cold water. CDA water temp for 2012 = 57 degrees. Water temp for 2011 (the year that I competed) = 55 degrees. Congrats and good luck on your journey.

my friend also did 2011 and said he couldn't feel his hands after the swim, what a brutal swim. I did Arizona and I thought 64 wasn't bad but i'm a bigger guy so it was warm in the wetsuit but many smaller athletes were pulled for hypothermia.

Yes, the larger athletes can have that advantage of keeping body temp up. Unfortunately, you have some (and sometimes "many" as in the case of the Boise 2012 70.3 race) of the pros pull out of the race for no other reason than that the water is so dang freezing. If Coeur d' Alene would hold it a week or two later into July, you would have perfect conditions. But instead, they keep it in June and are able to deny it being a factor in the death of an athlete last year. (all things considered).
