@@ibelieve96 he was already gaining on Tomac in that part of the race. Hitting his preferred line around the tree would have been faster than making a mistake and having to pause before accelerating again. Sexton has perfect technique and his corner speed is absurd

The problem is Sexton screwed up lost only 3 hundredths instead of multiple seconds. I'm not a fan of either, but not penalizing him there is rewarding him.
@mattkenyon35882 жыл бұрын
The real issue for me is that, yes he only lost three one hundredths of a second; however, translate that same mistake to a different section of the track and it could have easily cost him a lot more. In essence he skipped an entire obstacle where he easily could have naturally lost more than that just based on how clean both of them get through the turn. The absence of a response by the AMA in this case is a political one, I’d argue that if it was anyone else besides Sexton or Tomac, they would’ve been docked points. I think most people would be more indifferent if Sexton would have backed it down a bit to make sure he didn’t gain time but he was immediately on the gas

In Sexton's case, this was a common sense decision by officiating. He clearly cut the course, yes, but he clearly just avoided the tree after getting out of sorts in the ruts heading up to the turn, and gained absolutely no advantage. If anything it for a few moments cost him momentum and impeded his charge. I agree with their call to not penalize sexton here. I think that's one of quite a few infractions that has to be looked at on a case to case basis and then the rider will be penalized accordingly, or maybe not penalized at all. For example had sexton gained say 1.2 seconds by cutting the track and then gone on to win the moto by only .5 seconds I'd say the fair thing would be to dock sexton the position. I'll tell you one thing that I know for sure, whoever has to actually make those calls has a tough job, a really tough job.

Otherwise, what's the point then of having rules if the governing body is gonna be selective to who they decide that rule applies to. That just takes away from the sport and everyone that is a part of the sport. Manufacturers, teams, riders, sponsors, fans, etc are affected when the AMA didn't enforce their rules. It doesn't matter if it's a close championship or not. If he broke the rule and didn't do what he needed to do, then no question he should of gotten whatever penalty that comes with.
