"imagine the smell" Yeah, she's right. Morgues without ACs are fucking disgusting. One time we helped pathologist and GOD DAMN, the smell was so stingy that immediately after we finished we were allowed to go home so that we washed all our clothes and washed because we smelled like we died a few days ago in a very hot place)))
@LemonSte2 жыл бұрын
honestly i considered working in a mortuary before but that was definitely a factor in me deciding against it. I'm so sensitive to smell, i'm sure i'd get used to the smells but having that trait means i'm always hyper anxious that other people can smell me etc so theres no way i could do it

@@PNikiV Probably HVAC as opposed to just AC (though that's obviously very important). Only noting because the use of sufficient air ventilation and filtration is very important to maintaining healthy air, especially in the presence of noxious chemicals.

Reminds me of watching a movie where a guy running from zombies tripped over a small picket fence and broke his ankle, had nightmares for weeks, but now some 10 years later at 22 I've sat through college classses where instructors showed what happens when you f up/around with electricity and wires, and found myself feeling indifferent, a instructor actually remarked that's new, most are creeped out or laugh when over shocked by the sudden gore and visira on screen.

mousey recognising harm reduction during the apartment scene makes me proud, she was as sad as i was. +7 years off it myself, only reason i never got the problems (infections) like what she was talking about was cause i had legal access to clean things for free. taking that access away only causes problems like the ones she stated.

i've been on and off for 8 years now and luckily have access to clean supply. But still addiction is horrible...
@michaelccozens Жыл бұрын
@@hate6crew6death6roll And if you look at the history, it's amazing how open they were about it, and how quickly we chose to forget. Like, marijuana prohibition was openly just about attacking Mexican labourers (in part to keep them from organizing to combat exploitation by American farmers and landowners) and Black jazz performers (because they were becoming too politically and culturally powerful via their popularity), as it tended to be the drug of choice for those subgroups. Very similar to how Congress in the '80s made crack equivalent to 100 times its weight in cocaine in terms of sentencing, even though they're exactly the same drug, because crack was mostly used by poorer Black people and cocaine by wealthier white people. The speed with which a motivated society can completely accept a self-delusion is remarkable. It stems, I think, from people *assuming* they're "good people" and working backwards (ie. "I'm a good person, therefore everything I do is good, therefore what I do can't be bigoted, even when it obviously is"), instead of *wanting* to be a good person in good-faith, and hence actually interrogating what that concept means and how one would have to act to embody it. Because the latter's a lot of work, and the former isn't.
@michaelccozens Жыл бұрын
@@octoglazed3693 Absolutely. I think the point is, though, that there's no point setting-out to deliberately make addiction *more* horrible, because people don't choose addiction in the first place. Other people want to believe addiction is a choice, because then people with addiction are just "bad" instead of sick, and there's not the same moral obligation to help "bad" people as there is to help sick ones, because sickness is recognized as being beyond individual control. It also means that they don't have to worry about becoming addicted themselves, because that only happens to "bad" people. When you start breaking it down, it's amazing how much of people's attitudes and assumptions are just about relieving them of any work necessary to justify their image of themselves as a "good person".

It's thought that sleep paralysis is the basis of a lot of "alien abduction" experiences, and, previous to the idea of "aliens" being a widespread thing, the basis of a lot of "demon" experiences. There's also a theory that the consistent face-shape attributed to "grey" aliens is the result of the way in which newborns, whose visual acuity is, uh, not great, perceive human faces, which are extremely important to infant survival. Gotta learn real quick to find adult faces and learn which expressions mean you're pissing them off enough to leave you to the wolves.

I have had 4 vain ports! I haven't had to be awake when putting any of them in though, so i don't have the same experience with the installation that you have. Because I was so horribly sick since my birth, I have never had to do any procedures awake. I have had to do hundreds of procedures, so they have comboed putting the new ones in at the same time as for example marrow testing or something else. Since my own immunsystem breaks down my own body like it usually only does with foreign cellular lifeforms, like viruses or bacteria for example (that is my illness). My own immunsystem breaks down all my own cells inside me, like acid on the inside of my body. So i have had to do over 200 separate surgical procedures, which I got to thankfully do under anesthesia. Because I was 3 years old when it started, so doing all those joint injections, organ tissue tests, probings and so on. All of those things would have been too much for a baby and a child to deal with. So the only way to put me through all of that was to put me to sleep during surgery. The human psyche can't take that much punishment. I got my 4th vain port 2 years ago because my vains in my arms are literally so thick with scar tissue now that nurses can't use them reliably anymore. So ports are the only option. It is fun listening to another person talk about medical procedures and being a patient! It is something i rarely get to talk about with people because most people don't have health issues on the same level. But listening to you talk feels so relatable! It is weird...

One wonders if the tradition of making corpses look "alive" doesn't interfere with the grieving process. A major benefit of a funeral is allowing everyone in the deceased's social circle to see their body and thus put to rest any lingering subconscious hope that they might not be dead. Big issue cited by the loved ones of disappearance victims; even when it's obvious that they absolutely must be dead, not being able to witness the corpse means the animal brain has a very hard time accepting the reality of the person's death. On a related note, it's thought a similar phenomenon might be responsible for some "vampire" lore. An unembalmed corpse gets buried, and is then dug-up a few days later. Decomp means the sunken flesh of a fresh corpse is often hidden by internal bloating, increased internal pressure forces remaining blood closer to the skin's surface and gives it a "living" hue, and the same pressure may force some blood or blood-like fluids from the orifices, including the mouth, giving the appearance of the aftermath of a blood meal. Areas with little flesh, like fingers and the scalp, continue to dehydrate, shrink, and recede, giving the appearance of hair and nail growth. Frequent grave-robbery for any items or clothing buried with the corpse creates disturbances around the burial site that can appear to be the result of the corpse exiting the grave of its own accord.

The creation of modern embalming methods was mostly motivated by the belief that spread through some Christian sects that the Second Coming of Jesus would involve a *literal* resurrection of the dead, so your corpse best be in tip-top condition, or you're going to have a very awkward afterlife with all your bits falling-off all the time. Hard to square that with the whole "heaven" and "loving God" concepts, but I'm no theologian.
