In the last update on the Sweetheart Roadster, Matt formed the custom dash and got it clamped into the body. Today he is going to work on tack welding the custom dash to the stock Model A dash rail. The ends of the dash need to be trimmed as it was built a little longer then necessary. Once the sides and top were trimmed to fit, Matt works with his Eastwood Tig 200 to tack weld the custom dash into place. All of the final welding, and any hammer and dolly work will be done outside of the car once we are further along!

Even though the "Forgotten Hot Rod"is still my favorite build this car brings back a lot of memories of my dad helping the neighbor kid with his hot rod. They didn't work on the dash but the kid wanted to put on a sunken antenna and dad had a oxy/acetylene set at home and they did much the same fit as you did on the dash. You have to realize this was 1960 and most people had limited access to any welding let alone TIG or MIG. I had to crawl in the trunk and (because I was a little kid and small enough to get my arm in place) and hold the piece of exhaust tubing in place so they could get it tacked. I recall it got a little hot.

Ya got your rug busted, lookin good brother. Those vids of Larry's cars were fantastic. Thats the kind of guy, someone needs to write an Autobiography about. His life.... (to those of us that got jelly seeing all those cars!) His life, just seems interesting as hell. Another Farmer from Minnesota, James Graham, had a similar sitch. I bet there are alot of similarities and parallels if someone researched.

Matt & Co. another awesome video!! I really like your vision of flowing the dash into the doors, I agree 100 % on your tip of mocking things up & coming back a day or two later to see if it still excites you.....I do the same thing..the tip you gave on tacking the dash in was spot on, I made my door hinges for our 65 Ford Mustang drag car(installed glass doors), I made the actual hinge from 1/2" cold rold, then installed a oil lite bushing, tied it all together with 1/4" diameter chrome moly tube, I used the same method you did to tack everything together, when this starts to look like a car again I will send you some pictures, by the way, I received my Eastwood flashlight earlier this week, I seen you using yours bead rolling the bottom of your dash, thought to myself I have to have one of those..I did notice the 34-35 Ford sedan & the 30-31 Ford 5 window from a upcoming video, new projects?....anyway.....Build on Dudes!!!

Ok. I'm having difficulty visualizing how this will look. The dash seems tall. On the next video could you hold the gauge cluster up and show us how that will fit along with where the steering column will go? It might be the angle of the camera or just my brain. I'm learning a lot. From the summit of Tater Nob in Parker County, TX, thanks for the fun. :-)

Where you showed us drawing the line on inside of the backside of dash, couldn't you kleco the pieces that will fit before dash goes in,... mold pieces on either end then fit dash against them and tig or mig them to dash insert and then pull all out in one piece and weld/grind /fit to that spot perfect... grind away all the extra and it would press fit from sides making it stay right in place????
