Soooooo glad to see a No-Date Sub homage. Not only does it look classier as a more vintage inspired watch, but the cyclops is SO hard to get right on budget watches so I've avoided many of them because of it, but I JUST might pick this one up if it gets the seal of approval.

thank you for the review. too many submariner date homages, but not enough submariner homages and this seems like a good one. I'd love to see a 5517 homage, sword hands, professionnal bezel, 39mm. I don't like the steinhart ovm 39mm as they used the same dial than on the 42mm and it looks wrong to me. I'm waiting for a good one,so, perhaps ironwatch or san martin?

See my "Community" page Eric. My WR4K x Ironwatch RX8004 goes on sale after the Chinese New Year. It has Milsub sword hands, and printed indices like the 5517. My original design used a Milsub bezel but it isn't viable to produce it in a small batch, so it is using the standard RX8004 bezel. Regards, #WR4K

Thanks for your videos and insights. I bought the San martin SN 019G some time ago and found the pin closest to the glide lock clasp failed right out of the box, the pin itself is threaded but the pin hole in the clasp connection is not. Short of replacing the clasp (which I since have done) there's not much one can do without a dab of superglue. Generally, I find the fit and finish of all the pins to be a bit lax. However, for the price point the better Chinese stuff is very good. There's also a sort of dirty residue left on the bracelet of these watches, which I can see in your 4K videos., takes a little time to clean it off. I look forward to perhaps fitting the new Swiss movement to a Chinese watch head as I have acquired some tools for the job. If you find time to make a video on how you go about doing this work I'd be interested. Cheers, Ben.

I have an Ironwatch 36mm Clous de Paris watch and it is indeed excellent. I get endless pleasure out of looking at the dial, the hands, the perfect finishing. I agree with you about the unsigned crown and clasp. Perhaps the brand could benefit from a logo or a less straightlaced font, although somehow I like the industrial, no-nonsense vibe of the name and style.

@@paulhiggins8774 The PT5000 is a clone of the ETA 2824-2, therefore any watchmaker able to service an ETA 2824-2 will be able to service the PT5000. The same lubricants are used. The service interval of the PT5000 is 5 years, same as the ETA 2824-2, and SW200-1. The PT5000 is available on AliExpress for only 72 Euro (see link below). Therefore it may be more viable just to replace the movement in 5 years, rather than to service it. To put it into perspective, currently to service a Steinhart Ocean One 39 with; ETA 2824-2, or SW200-1 costs 150 Euro. An SW200-1 Elabore grade (as used by Steinhart) costs 210 USD (see link below). Therefore it is viable to service it every 5 years, rather than replace. If I had a PT5000 watch I would just replace the movement for a new one, rather than service. If I had a watch with an SW200-1 or ETA 2824-2 I would service it. Great review and of the movement change . On this iron watch the applied markers being non-maxi , would that make the San Martins painted markers on the sn006-g maxi markers as they looks substantially larger (not necessarily better )? Thanks

Applied indices perform better than printed, even when they are smaller. Reason being, they are deeper so allow for more layers of BGW9 to be applied. Regards, #WR4K

How does the finishing on the iron watch compare to the sn006g please? I understand the head of the piece is the same but is the bracelet and clasp finishing as good as SM?

It looks like the Clasp on the Bracelet is not a glidelock clasp. I think this clasp has 3 adjustments where you need a springbar tool.

Thank you for watching. The SN006-G has; female end links, printed indices (rather than applied indices), holes in the lugs, 2-button push clasp. I have a policy of only giving my opinion on watches I have handled. However I prefer the applied indices on this RX8004 to the printed indices on the SN006-G. Regards, #WR4K

It is very similar to the San Martin SN006-G. The Iron Watch has the fantastic applied indices whereas the San Martin has the BGW9 Super-Luminova printed (multiple layers). Applied indices have greater liongetivity in my experience. The measurements are almost identical with the exception of lug to lug (San Martin is 49mm). The San Martin has the female endlinks that draw the case to the wrist very well and a more adjustable clasp. The Iron Watch is very nice.

San Martin and Cronos are both highly regarded by the community and have both modern and vintage subby homage offerings. Squale and Steinhart are at the higher end of your price range, but can be found all day used on ebay. I just finished up a vostok mod, a "true" homage to the Rolex 5517 and military seamaster. I prefer this over a direct copy, as it pulls inspiration from multiple models yet still holds all the history surrounding Vostok itself. Good luck, dude!

You are mistaken. Ironwatch are not made by Cronos. The owner of Ironwatch is a friend of Liao Jiaming, the owner of San Martin; hence the similarity between their watches such as this RX8004 and the SN006-G. Regards, #WR4K
