I picked up a used sand filter barrel for swimming pools and it seems to be working well going on year three. It’s nice because I can backwash and rinse the reservoir regularly and replace the sand as needed.

Sand filters are great filters, excellent pick-up you made! If you ever get the chance, when you're replacing your sand, look at the old sand through a magnifying glass, it's pretty incredible how smooth and round they get after some time filtering -- like small glass multi-colored beads. :)

I am a professional lake pump, advanced filter installer and diver with over 36 years experience, formerly a licensed irrigator with 22 years experience. These guys are right in one respect - - you need to install the largest filter you can afford, like the one he is showing because the small filters will often clog up in one irrigation cycle (one day). Unfortunately, the filter he is pushing is a SCREEN filter, these are the worst for all the mucky, yukey, sticky debri in dirty lake or river water - - this stuff sticks to the screen and is hard to get off. Normal brushing or water hose spray will NOT get this stuff off the screens. What is the maximum operating pressure of this filter ? My filters are 150 psi. The type of white PVC fittings he is using to screw on to the filter are weak, they will split easily. There is a special type of reinforced sitting I use on mine and they never split.

What type of filtration would you recommend for river or canal water. I use canal water for toilet and it tends to dirty the Bowl a lot .Can you recommend a mesh filter, a chlorine regulator or any other types of economical system for a home? I would to have a clean water system. and recommendations?

I have found the same thing myself. My only experience is being a home owner but find that the tall yellow type he has on the table works best for my irrigation outfit. I pull out of the canal behind my house and when the summer heat sets in the water quality gets really bad and it keeps up with it pretty good. Still not the best solution but one that I can keep up with.

P.S. On their website they offer a disc type filter as well for the cartridge he demonstrated. It's a bit pricey but may give me longer periods of time between cleanings.

Robert, I have 1/2 acre pond, what would be your recommendation to get water from the pond , filter, pump, etc to use for irrigation? If you would design a system what would it look like?

What is the best way to clean the screen filter thoroughly for lake water application?
@dripdepot
@dripdepot Жыл бұрын
For screen filters, we like to remove the element and then spray the outside with a garden hose or something similar that doesn't have really high pressure. Screen filters filter from the inside out, so spraying the outside will usually get rid of debris that has collected on the inside. Disc filters are a little more involved, but the discs can be separate after the element is removed from the body of the filter. This makes rinsing them with a lower pressure hose or container of water a pretty effective method :)

Can you have Ed address the same video what would include the irrigation cannel water but we are getting gravity fed. We need to install a pump and holding tank from what some experts say. I really appreciate your guys video. Our Development does not want to install pumps.

Ive just started a gardening job and they have it mounted the other way. Its a nightmare to clean and is now leaking with the clamps on.

purchased a 1.5" t-filter from you guys sku 20451. Inside the two pressure gauge ports are a spring and a small marble. Should those be removed before installing pressure gauges?
@dripdepot
@dripdepot Ай бұрын
I think you might have emailed us as well, but I wanted to reply here too in case someone else has the same question as it's a good one :) The red adapter that comes with 20451 can accept a 1/4" MPT pressure gauge -- you can then push the stem of the red adapter into the pressure gauge port and it will move the spring loaded ball out of the way so pressure can be checked. Somewhat similar to a tire pressure gauge, but it moves a spring loaded ball instead of a valve stem. Some filters are moving this direction so you can just have a single gauge and don't have to drill holes (the no-drilling I like, as we've seen lots of filters ruined by using the wrong bit, once you've drilled there's no taking it back). I hope this helps anyone reading it!

@@dripdepot thx. Had never seen that method before. I removed ball and spring and rubber seal and mounted two gauges on the unit. Hoping that is sufficient as well
@dripdepot
@dripdepot Ай бұрын
@@rf4215 I don't see any reason that wouldn't work -- water will get pressed up into the channel and into the gauge, it should test pressure as normal as long as it's water tight :)

When you speak of runtime are you speaking of the the time you have before needing to clean the filter?
@DripDepotAdam
@DripDepotAdam Жыл бұрын
You got it exactly right! He's referring to the overall run time of the system before the element gets clogged up enough by debris that it needs to be cleaned. A larger surface area extends the time it takes to get clogged :)

screen filter for a muddy pond? Try a bucket with rocks and cotton in it.... it'll last longer than that stuff

Can't believe u didn't start the discussion with mesh size ! That makes as much of a difference as area of screening filtration...pretty amateurish...By the way, most drip systems, that i work with, want a minimum of 150 mesh to filter particles down to 100 microns in size...Amiad rules 🤣🤣🤣
@brois841
@brois841 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter, the point is that for the same mesh size more surface area = longer run time. So if your system dictates a 100 micron mesh, then that's what you're going with. All he's saying is: buy our filter, cuz it's uuuuuge ;)

Hi Ed, I am residential home owner , what is difference between disk and screen filter type ? is the one in the video disk ? also most landscapers recommend 32 mesh for irrigation water, does 75 mesh do the job or I should go to higher mesh, I don't want my water pressure to drop. thank you

None of these filters work for my application using drip emitters. My water originates from a creek which is affected by sand, organics, and other water borne particles every time it rains. I run 3 large disc filters which work together to get me one hour of run time before requiring cleaning.
@rf4215
@rf4215 Ай бұрын
I also pull from a creek out west. I don't draw from it during rainy season other than through a garden hose but during growing season, it's filled with organic material and sand. trying to remedy this as we speak. I'd be fine cleaning filters weekly if I can achieve that. will be placing a 1.5" t filter (disc) right after the pump b4 it goes into pressure tank and then small inline filters (home depot) before each valve.

@@rf4215 I bit the bullet and spent the money on a 2 canister sand filter with a timer to automatically self flush itself. It is run by 4 D cell batteries and is very effective. The water then goes to the disc filters as a backup. So far, its been running good. I am going to have to make some kind of settling pond at the source to help remove the organics tho.
