IRRITATING VALVE COVER GASKETS, HYUNDAI 2.7 REAR SIDE.

Not a bad job just an irritating one due to the labor involved , but then how else would the intake plenum be able to work correctly .

One thing I’d advise is to only work on one side at at time. Too easy to knock debris into the front bank when you’re tearing apart the rear bank. Great video!

21 youngling here, done a decent amount on my car since 16, waterpump, radiator, sparkplugs, sparkplug cables, air intake , timing belt, serpentine belt. But im more nervous now with this then anything I've done before. So a big thank you for the video brother, it will help immensely

There are actually 2 different v6 engines used this year and are determined by the build date. All my parts are for the wrong engine so make sure you order them for the correct build date if you are doing this job

I'm in the middle of this job on my 05 sonata right now. I was quoted 850 for spark plugs and wires and couldn't believe it. I'm doing my valve cover gaskets while I'm in there. I can see why they charge so much now lol

Appreciate the video! Regarding the back of the plenum, on the kia sportsge there is a very problematic bolt,(on the drivers side of the. Plenum) that is behind the wire/loom (alternator power line to battery) that can not be rempved until that loom is disconnected at that point, to allow some access to the bolt It has stopped my progress, as i don't know hpw to unpin/disconnect the wire at that point. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

i had to take the intake manifold off just to replace the back spark plugs. i can confirm is this much of a pain in the rear. I don't know who the hell designs these cars but its never easy to replace anything. what sucks its that i have to do it AGAIN, because i found oil in the spark plug wells, meaning I gotta replace the valve gaskets, oh, and the spark wires as well.

You didn't change the O rings? I have been trying to replace mine, and they are so brittle... how do you get them out successfully?

The spark plug tube seals? You just pry them out with a pick or you can try to jam an interior trim removal tool in there, anything to wrench the b*stards out. They'll be destroyed by the time they're off. Then clean the mating surface and install the new ones using a mallet and a large socket or press tool to seat them.

the valve covers are *a lot easier* to get on if you unplug the fuel injectors.

Do you have to drain the coolant for the valve cover gaskets? Looking to do a 08 santa fe 2.7l

On this car, the coolant is circulated through the throttle body to prevent icing, i believe I drained some coolant but not all.

I had the upper intake off of my 04 santa fe , to do plugs and wires . Can you please tell me what is "iratating " about those valve covers . Ive never needed to remove them yet

Thanks for the video. A ridiculous design Hyundai came up with here. You shouldn't have to go through so much trouble to change out a valve cover gasket, taking the entire car apart I'll stay away from buying in future.

Music in background too loud. Interferes with vocal instructions. Maybe video should show a rag stuffed in intake to prevent internal foreign object damage. "Ounce of prevention = 1lb of cure," as Ben Franklin used to say working on his buggy.
