Great classic video, man I missed riding these Redbird on the 7 Train during my childhood days!

Thank you for this video. I grew up riding the redbird on the 7.

What about the R62a or the R188

The train to the game! I recall when the subway cars were the original blue and white World’s Fair colors as a kid! When I started going to Mets games as a child in the mid to late 60s, I took the 7 to Shea Stadium! I even went to the World’s Fair with my Dad when I was real young in 1965 and took the 7 then too!

Came back to this video to note. 9545 was the last R36ML to keep its 1978 Vignelli set destination sign in the front. Was scrapped with it.

Why did the lights blink? I thought that was only on the worlds fair redbirds, not the mainlines?

Where'd you hear that? That became a thing on all of these old SMEE's. Even the R62's have it today.

@@Emperor_NYC The R62A doesn't have it.

@@Emperor_NYC Oh okay I understand. I apologize. The R32 trains just retired and they have been replaced by the R179 trains.

The R36MLs, despite really being R33MLs delivered as part of the R36 contract (leftover shells that were held over when the last 40 R33s were rushed as single units to the World's Fair), were originally near-identical to Westinghouse ML R33s 9076-9305 but after GOH were electrically and mechanically Westinghouse R36s (9346-9523) with the outward appearance of a R33 ML. They lacked the upgrade to RT-2 braking and retained original WABCO SMEE ME42B braking with manual load valves and did not receive the solid state light inverters.

I just happened to hop on an R36ML car. Of course most of them were R36WFs.

Can't be 9545, since that pair (9544-9545) was retired off the 6 in June/July 2001and went on the very first barge to Delaware on August. When reefed, it still had the yellow decals from the 6 (Westchester) and was not on the 7. Delivered 8/1964.

According to July 2001 issue of the Bulletin on Page 20, R36MLs 9536-9547 were moved to the 7 on December 22, 2000 except 9540-41. My video was taken on 2/24/01. 9545 was already on the 7.

@@chaohwac Thanks. Seems odd to have 9544-9545 removed from the 7 to be first to be reefed when when all the other cars on the first barge to the Delaware reef site (15 miles SW Cape May, NJ) were from the 2/5 or 6.

The R188s would not appear until late 2013. This video is 12 years before R188 trains were in service.
