I've had a pair of these for a couple of years now and really like them. Until I saw your review I didn't realize all the capabilities of this tool. I've removed the outer sheath from Romex with a utility knife not knowing that this tool can do it quicker and better! I am amazed at how easy it stripped the sheath off of the outdoor direct-burial cable too. That is a bear to strip with a utility knife! I also never thought of stripping more than one wire at the same time either. Doh! Thanks for this review. I learned more about a tool that I already own and have used many times.

I love my pair fof them. Ive had them for a little while and tey get a lot of use. I like how you can strip in the middle of wire to splice them together. Its a really nice tool. The reason why I picked the Irwin over the Klein is the crimper offers more capabilities.
@RealToolReviews9 жыл бұрын
Brendan Hollingsworth Thanks Brendan! I did not mention the splicing part, since I was worried the average person may try this with 110v AC power & shock themselves....but you are correct, they can do that also --- great for low voltage DC soldered connections!

A nice feature not touched on is the vice ability allowing you not to pull on the wire to remove the insulation possible loosening it at the opposite connection. Short wires in difficult places (automotive) leaving little room to get a grip is frustrating. We all know how it turns out.

Do the Irwin’s mar up the jacketing a little on the side that isn’t stripped? I have another brand that looks identical. It strips the wire fine, but the grip teeth on the left side of the jaws mangle the insulation a little
@bhp19847 жыл бұрын
Any idea how well these work on tefzel wire? That insulation can be a bear. Also, do the jaws leave indentations on the insulations? Some of the connectors I work with (AMPSEAL) specifically caution that some strippers cause indentations that do not play nice with the wire seals.

Good video. I was going to get these but they looked exactly like the harbor freight ones so I got those instead. Waste of $9 because they weren't consistent and they cut some wire strands every time. I decided to buy some cheap generic automatic wire strippers from ebay that you have to slide in the slot for the correct size wire but then you squeeze and it strips it. Maybe I might give these a try. Thanks for the video.

I couldn't decide which ones to get a few years ago, but I was so broke that I had to settle on the Gardner Bender ones from Menards cuz they were only 13 bucks instead of 20. How would this do with heavy gague fine stranded wire? When I do transceiver installs the 12 gague zipcord I use is 65 strands of #30 and it's a right pain to strip this without removing the outer few strands.
@RealToolReviews9 жыл бұрын
ronnies07 The thickest stranded that I tried it with was 12 gauge stranded well pump wiring....it is for 220v AC power & it was way thicker of wiring & insulation than 12/2 house wire. It did that with no problem. However, I had some extra thick (unsure of gauge) coated ground wire with very thin/strong sheathing & it would not strip it....almost like a PVC coating. I guess you could always get a pair & if they dont work, just return them. Thanks for commenting!

I wonder about hand fatigue. After stripping and terminating hundreds of different gauge wires into an electrical panel that's sitting twenty feet off the ground the last thing I need is my hands to freeze up.
@stevehartfelder30687 жыл бұрын
I have a pair of these but they don't work correctly. They work sometimes on thicker gauge wires. When I use with 16 gauge speaker wire they grabbing side works, but the cutting side just scores the jacket. It doesn't remove the sheathing. Did I just get a bad pair? Or are there any adjustments on them?
@RealToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
If you tighten the little thumb wheel screw on the front down really tight it does better with thinner gauge wire.
@mpcp277 жыл бұрын
Real Tool Reviews...yeah I was wondering what that screw was for...so you tighten that screw to make it grab the insulation better? And if you tighten too much it can damage the internal wires?
