Even with toys you can see stuff from the 1980's and 1990's coming back. I feel like it's not just a thing with clothes either. They brought back polly pocket, tomagatchi, the original My Little Pony, and so many other things. They may have been around for a long time but there are new sets and stuff being made because it's popular enough to get more sales.

I remember back in the mid 2010's tumblr grunge was a thing and the hypebeast fashion is heavy influenced by Dupper Dan. But honestly 2020's fashion feels like an amalgamation of past trends from different decades that was just reinvented for modern audiences.

80s trends already came back. What did ya'll think the 2010s were? I saw bodysuits in stores for the first time in my entire life, you could buy stirrup leggings again, shag mullets and backcombimg were in for hair (scene kids, we also REALLY did the neon colors and spray-on denim extra hard. We had the bigass hubcap earrings, too, ours were just gauges) bright obnoxious colors, leg warmers came back for a bit, we were wearing blazers to the club and shit, pant waists went super high rise and we liked big belts with that for a bit. Madonna even dropped a cIothing line that was pretty popular, Material Girl, I had a dress from it. 80s parties were really popular, at least near where I lived, for awhile as well. If we do it again I hope we get the Victorian shirts and looking like a melodramatic vampire instead of the crap.

i'm in no way model/stick thin at all but drop waist is the only thing that suits a long torso like mine 🥲 i think gals with long torsos/a generally lower curve of waist actually want to avoid high waisted things since the area it cuts off at makes the waist look boxier than it actually is (despite the lovely fat-covering aspect of it)

I certainly hope that these will only be options that you can put on if you like them and buy something else if you don't. IMO there's nothing wrong with changing fashion trends as long as 1) you are not pressured by society to adhere to them and 2) none of the trends prevail so much that you can't buy anything else (e.g. how in the 2000s it became very hard to find women's trousers - particularly jeans - with a decent waist. That was bad). Fortunately, we seem to nowadays habe the concept of "fashion basics" and "normcore", as well as shops that purport to cater to your own sense of style.
@Crouthy16
@Crouthy16 3 ай бұрын
Yeah I think to both points, you need to have a certain figure to pull this off and yes thank God we aren’t forced to conform to styles that aren’t flattering. Early 2000s was a rough time for this curvy girl who did not look good in those low cut jeans and tight shirts 😅😅

The 80s were extremely popular for gen z from 2017-2021 because of the release of stranger things, I think the 80s were a huge part of 2010s fashion, it was at its peak during the stranger things years. The Y2K revival didn’t gain full popularity until late 2022. Just like other decades I think the 2020s fashion hasn’t came in yet, that’s why 2020-2022 were so 80s since the 2010s were so influenced by the 80s

@@isaaciap2934 y2k revival fashion started appearing in 2020-2021 actually, I was into it when it first started :) but yes I agree that the 80s were revived in the late 2010s with the mom jeans and "kidcore" styles, along with the 80s themed youtube skits and liminal spaces. it was a short revival and only vaguely 80s, tbh. that late 2010s "80s" revival was also very early 90s. I feel the 80s will be back again, and maybe even more accurate because of the fashion cycle. right now we're in the 1920s-60s-early70s-late90s-2000s lane of fashion, but once that's over, were gonna go back into late 19th century-40s-50s-80s-2010s.

Lately I've been saying the same too! I do honesty think that up until now we were back to 70s fashion with flared jeans and platform heels, and now we're leaning more into "old money" (as it was called but it isn't actually accurate) and style that is recognized with the 80s. I am sooo happy this is happening (70s and 80s fashion is my favorite) and yesterday I actually bought a black heel, sort of mary janes just like you showed in the vid that look adorable and i love them but i was worried that it might make me look older or just look like old women shoes but if it IS coming back... that is fantastic and i feel it! I didnt have the urge to get these shoes until now, and i can actually say we are Making the right fasion choices as a society! This is kind of a rant but I've been feeling this way and have yet to find a person who thinks the same. You're awesome!!!

I agree wholeheartedly. The culture is already there. We have an extremely consumerist culture nowadays and every pushback i see seems to be more of a "trend" that is quickly transformed into consumerism. For example, in the 2010s Diy and vintage was in, thrifting was big. I see a lot of gen z trying to recreate that era's values but what actually happened was thrift shops became glamourized and more expensive in many places, and brands started emulating 2000s looks. We're also seeing brand obsession come back, as well as wealth obsession. Microaesthetics mirror 80s several fast trends, and some of them are very reminiscent of 80s fashion. 2010s also took a lot from the 80s, but mostly counterculture. 2020s seems to be more mainstream 80s culture.

I noticed that in the 90s, the 70s were hot. Bell bottoms, black light posters, and the Brady Bunch movie. In the 00s and early 10s, it was 80s. Neon colors, ankle warmers, and off one shoulder blouses. In the late 10s and now 20s, it’s been a 90s revival with grunge, 90s hip hop, and 90s pop princess styles coming back. I believe that our next big trend will be the early 00s like what was worn by the girls on The OC and Disney Channel stars on the red carpet. Once that dies down, I fully expect it to shift over to early 10s style like mustache everything, jersey shore style, and the nerdy hipster girl aesthetic with black frame glasses, beanies, and colored tights with skirts and band tees.

The 90s are coming back too. An eighth grader I know recently went to school in low rise jeans and a few layered crop tops.

Trends cycle in 20 year increments. In the 90s, 70s style was huge. 00s 1980s style. And 10s was interestingly kind of its own trend. And then 2020 started bringing the 00s style back...polo shirts, preppy looks, etc

They've been trying to bring back the 80s fashions since they ended. A lot of it was not good lol! I lived it, trust me. All the laying did make designers and shops a lot of money though. But I'd love to see Units come back. So comfy!

Aside from usual trend cycles there has been a massive wave of 80’s nostalgia in pop culture that is still going on but started right before this.

This is so funny because I often talk about how it's such an interesting time for fashion right now because it feels like almost everything is in style. Many decades are in, but it always seemed like the 80s were skipped over. I guess it makes sense that eventually it would come back if it seems like every other decade has been trendy recently.

Well in the last recession we ended up with an 80s revival. I have some maybe mid-2010s dresses that I wear to 80s parties that always get compliments. My mom grew up in the 60s and 70s. She says a couple of the dresses are late 70s/80s styles.The 70s has never really gone away.

I think fashion splits during recessions/depressions. One part is conservatism and focusing on classic styles that have security in class to ease our drop in financial security/social status instability. The second is expiration, using a hybrid of different cultures and times (especially looking back to more secure and/or exciting, resource secure times when there is less stress and more play).

Lisa Frankenstein came out this year which takes place in the 80s as well & I can already picture people taking inspiration from it for Halloween this year. I do enjoy 80s fashion so I'm here for it 😂

I went shopping yesterday and all the men's sections were extremely 60s-early 70s. It's unfortunately not my fian e's style but i loved it! It was the first time i saw actual visually interesting mens trend. And there was linen EVERYWHERE! Mens, womens, and children's section. Like actual, affordable, goodle quality cotton/linen blends. But if you look at what young adults/ teens are wearing i can definitely see a blend of 90's/Y2K making it's way back to early 90s-80s

Years ago in the 1960's, my mom made me a beautiful dropped waist dress. The top was black boucle and the skirt was beige boucle.

You're right. In men's fashion I've been noticing color blocking, bold patterns, and high waisted pants. Jacket sleeves rolled up, and luxury accents and jewelry

💯 agree I was just thinking they were doing the 70s and it’s changing , I was thinking 20s style cos it’s basically 20s again in terms of societial views and ppl feeling struggling with the cost of living then you talked abt how 20s & 80s fashion is related so makes sense.

I think that for awhile they've been back, now along with 90s n y2k, people are starting to reimagine older styles into their own again. I noticed in the 2010s a lot of 80s styles being sprinkled into different parts of mainstream style or at least for ppl that wanted a bit of a quirky vibe. Now that is 90s and y2k for the quirkier stuff, though the 70s/90s vibe of the last... Maybe 6 years? Is shifting but several pieces seem to be sticking around more, mainly bell or angel sleeves and bell, flare or jnco wide leg style pants.

80's fashion had a lot of cool styles, also a lot of weird ones, the 80's was cool because people really had their own individual style, and you'd see a group of kids all dressed completely differently hanging out. Today kids all dress the same. It's boring. Bring back the different styles!!

I have a survivor 80s skirt from my mom's closet. There's a picture of me next to her when she was wearing it, and I'm in a poodle skirt and polo shirt. I was into 50s as a kid. She even got me saddle shoes. I added a bubble ruffle to another skirt that she made me. I haven't worn a bubble skirt since the 80s.
