I didn't know you were in the solar industry too. Always have enjoyed your content!

We had solar installed on our house three months ago. I wish I had done it way earlier, but I guess my timing was pretty good.

I recommend getting a quote from Tesla. I got 6 quotes and Tesla was by far the cheapest. I got a 36 panel, 14.4 kw system that makes 22,000 kWh per year for $33,600. After tax credit, it was $23,500. My annual electric bill went from $4,800 to zero.

I mean... We DIY'd a 28kw ground mount system for 10k If you have to have it on your roof and don't feel safe working up there definitely shop around. The Tesla recommendation might be a good one 😊 Oh, and if you want to be grid tied, there's a whole lot of regulations on that I wouldn't want to get involved with as a DIYer. It's probably not even possible in some states (and others might allow it but have especially onerous inspections on self-built grid-tied systems, for very understandable reasons.)

@@priestesslucy I live in the suburbs of LA. Property is very pricey and a ground mounted system would be occupying $100k worth of usable yard space. And yes, it had to be engineered, blueprinted, submitted for inter-tie and licensed electricians had to be used for city permits. DIY was definitely no-go.

I'm all for clean energy and taking responsibility for what we leave behind to the next generations, but, one more thing. Oil and gas (and that derived from them, electricity) are commodities, you buy those, you support the commodities, and the "entities" that benefit from those sales.

Paying only $100/month for electricity you're in the elite 2-3% of the country. You don't need to worry about solar.

Fear is no reason to buy solar. Prices are actually dropping so it is wrong to suggest tariffs will increase prices especially when prices drop faster than tariffs increases. Another reason is net metering is no longer a benefit when electricity grid is unstable. The better reason to install a solar system is a battery backup and use it to reduce reliance on the grid. These systems are relatively new and new manufacturers are producing new equipment. You can buy direct or a distributor and hire a contractor to install. I live in California where I experience at least 3 power outages a year.

Sure, that’s why we have so many cheap, good quality Chinese electric cars in the usa. It’s not about fear mongering. It’s about the slowdown of progression, and the death of the free market. Just because we can’t make something better in America, doesn’t mean we should be tariffs on them to stop competition. It hurts us the most. Good luck living off the grid, when all the products jump 50 plus percent. China already stopped trade of important minerals that make battery and electronic parts, thanks to the orange clown. Putting your head in the sand isn’t gonna stop your ignorance.

@ You heard nothing I said. I’m not going off-grid except when California has unreliable electricity service. There’s no reason to rush into solar when new technologies to replace reliance on unreliable grid power is being developed in increasingly low prices despite tariffs. China isn’t going to save America. It’s the opposite. They steal technology. They don’t innovate. We don’t need rare earth minerals. Actually, why don’t you ask Blue States on why they don’t allow mining of rare earth minerals in America. Their logic is full of nonsense. They rather have China get more pollution. LOL on your concerns about solar.
