simplicity isn't always a bad thing guys. i swear, if you don't like the music don't listen. they know what they are doing. we've gotta stop acting like we know everything. if you like metallica's older music it STILL exists. this is objectively good music. if they had release another st. anger, or load/reload then people would all be crying about how different it was, but if they released an album that reflects their old style it is "samey", "more of the same", "recycled." we have got to stop acting like our opinions are the end all be all. like if i said the shirt you are wearing is stupid, and you need to throw it in the trash, you would probably wholeheartedly disagree with me. which is perfectly fine. i'm not going to go online, and say your shirt is stupid, and burn the exact same shirt on a campfire. it's none of my business. it doesn't affect me. we can have an opinion, and not try to tear other people down because of this. and this is meant to nobody in particular it's just a statement. and the shirt thing was just an example it's actually a nice shirt. the point is, people saying stuff like "time to retire", is indirectly criticizing the people who like the music, because you are calling it trash, which is calling my taste in music bad. so, people need to think about things like this. also metallica doesn't work for us, they work for themselves. so the fact that we are over here complaining that the album doesn't sound exactly like we wanted it to is funny at best. because the whole point of music, is to be an artistic expression from the ARTIST, not from the fans. if you want a certain type of music to exist, then there is nothing to stop you from making it. i'm not trying to bash you, or anyone in particular, i'm just trying to illustrate that everyone has their opinions, and especially in music, there is no right and wrong, it all depends on the person. i actually agree mostly with your assessment. i like it a lot personally, but a lot of the things you are saying are true. but I've been getting burned at the stake for that opinion, and it's not fair to me.

I've been sick of it since 2015. But recently I've started naturally falling in love & listening to Linkin Park & Metallica again, I listened to a lot of Mudvayne , Slayer, Havok in the last few months, even listened to Pantera out of nowhere just now randomly. There are elements of it I still find kinda boring, but for the last few months / years maybe, I've been drawn more to simple music but with lots of feeling ever since I started to write my own songs. I still find metal cool & fun, still love to headbang but in a way it feels like I've heard it all before. If I had a choice I would rather listen to The Cranberries or an obscure jazz fusion band than this, but I'd still give it another chance in the future!

Interesting take, I found that inamorata is the best they have done in ages tbh. Room of mirrors is great. I really like crown of barbed wire, has a really cool chorus. Too far gone is also pretty good. Soo really I think it’s better than hardwired. Feels like it’s worse written but more unique.

People keep comparing it to outlaw and saying it's a classic , so I'll give it another chance. But also highly unlikely I'll change my opinion cause it didn't grab me any way from the first listen. Still okay but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. Part of me still just believes it's just the kids overhyping it just because it's a LONG SONG and the LAST SONG of an album and about James' DIVORCE so they automatically put it on a pedestal

I agree with the Hi-Hat statement on Inemorata. The midway point has an otherwise utterly welcome deep, lush, hush chilled reflective section. Total Black Sabbath. But the moody, quiet stillness is almost ruined by the Hi-Hat interupting the peace. It has absolute No business being there whatsoever. Id love a fan edit, whereby that Hi-Hat is removed. Because, it is otherwise a good song.👍 I think the album is a grower. Id never judge any album on first day reactions because it grows and shows itself more over time. My initial complaints- the songs are tooo long, they lack dynamics and range to characterize themselves apart from eachother. And as much as I love Kirk as an all round sound guy, his solos hear are the same ReLoaded licks that contribute to the "samey" vibe throughout. I hear shades and flashes of brilliance that, I think will bring more out of the album to me aswell. Im looking forward to giving it more time and listens.👍

lars needs to calm tf down. somehow for me the worst aspect of the album is lars incessantly making cymbal counts when there shouldn't be any drums at all. inamorata, title track, screaming s-word, you name it, there's a frickin cymbal count in there

My first album I got to hear fresh on release was Reload and this is the first time I didn't immediately love a Metallica album. After 5 or 6 listens it finally clicked and I enjoy it more now. It's nothing groundbreaking but I feel its a solid album now. The only songs I don't care for now are Crown of Barbed Wire and Screaming Suicide. I also agree about the hi-hat in Inamorata as well as the song in general not being as great as something like Outlaw, Bleeding Me or Fixxxer.

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I wasn’t too impressed with the singles so my expectations weren’t the highest, but I was still excited. It’s not perfect by any means but it’s definitely better than HWTSD (I found that album really boring). Right now I would rate it like a 7/10 but that might change in the future. Pretty decent overall

i think this album is ok. nothing special, it has its good moments, but sometimes it's boring. but it's not an album that I drop halfway through because it's so boring, like load/reload or st anger. Metallica has been my favorite band since I was 11, so 36 years now. Even with all that bias, I can still acknowledge fair, accurate criticism, and fwiw this review, imo is both fair and accurate. That said, we're never going to get something comparable to their old school music again (which I consider to be their first 4 albums). Even so, I personally enjoyed this album for what it is, as I have most of their albums (even St. Anger on occasion, though I have to listen to the fan remaster with a proper snare sound 🤣). Thanks for the video and for keeping it real!

Yup, I'm just glad my favorite band released an album! I never had the expectation that this album is going to be groundbreaking or as iconic as RTL or MOP , cause that's very unrealistic. If every artist still had that magic juice then Paul McCartney would be dominating the charts right now.
