Have you guys tried the Publix fully cooked whole smoked Turkey? It is absolutely amazing. It literally puts the popeye's one to shame. It is juicy, tender and oh, so smokey. The best part of all ? It is available all year round! We are fixing to have it again tomorrow for Easter dinner, along with seafood jambalaya, Cajun gravy, Crawfish hand pies and Yellow rice with pigeon peas also coconut cream pie and lemon bars for desserts.🎉🎉🎉 And for a 11lb Turkey it was 26$!!!!!!
@eddihaskell2 ай бұрын
The Publix turkeys on sale for Thanksgiving for 49 cents a pound are excellent . They are frozen-- put one in the deep freeze and its still good 10 months later, just defrost it SLOWLY in the fridge, dry brine it, and then bring it to room temp before you roast it. Trust me its delicous -- and cheap.

This year I brined my turkey with rosemary, thyme. Peppercorn, a few bay leaves and Chinese five spice. I paired it with some roasted Brussel sprouts, stuffing with some dates and a blend of ground beef and pork, gruyère* and parm Mac n cheese with panko bread crumbs, cranberry sauce from scratch of course, pastélon (random i know), cauliflower mash, and some filled Cresent roll appetizers (chicken and pesto / bbq beef brisket and shallots) and when I say i'm STILL tired... this popeyes turkey is looking like a real viable option for next year.

That being said, I do enjoy the flavor and how easy it is to cook. I'm a chef and I work crazy hours. I actually started smoking turkeys on order this year (a friend asked me if I would do a few for them, and I think I settled around $75-$100 per bird for 2. Since I did so few, and have a relatively small barrel smoker, that price just covered my TIME (after ingredients) at like $15/hour of prep/active work including brining, then injecting with melted herb butter, and smoking. I will say, they turned out incredible. If something is truly special, it can be worth the price tag. Never shop for someone else with “your wallet.” Reviews were so good, I’m already getting orders for next year! ❤

Thanks for reviewing this. Everyone loves Popeyes and nearly everyone is looking for a way to reinvent turkey. No turkey is worth $70-100. Sorry. I paid $40 for the same kind of fully cooked hickory smoked turkey from Sam's. It was also pretty much thawed at the store. I'm from Louisiana and I could Cajun up a turkey, but that's not what I like for thanksgiving. I have that kind of food that enough during the year. Btw, my results were less than satisfactory.
