The only way to own one of these is to find an independent mechanic like Scotty Kilmer, and know that things will break ALL THE TIME. It's more of a hobby/project car. If I were independently wealthy (and by that, I mean *_REALLY_* wealthy), I just might buy something like this. This car does have many pros, like the *insane **_QUIETNESS AND REFINEMENT_** of the engine - you cannot hear that thing, if your life depended on it* (and NO, the LEXUS LS 460 does NOT have a quiet engine. It is as noisy and unrefined as they come. The LS 430 was the the LAST quiet vehicle from Lexus). Hey Bill nice to see that the huge trunk still has room for a few infants even with those toys to keep them entertained! I bought a 2003 MBZ S600 in 2015 with 80+K miles so a similar situation being 13 years old when purchased. I soon realized the ABC hydraulic suspension system was going to be a nightmare to maintain so I had a conversion done to tear it out and replaced with an air suspension made specifically for the make and model. I was told that it was not if but when the ABC will leak and start failing and costing several thousands to repair and maintain. It's been 6 years now and I've put 20K miles on it since 2015 so I drive it sparingly and haven't had any problems since the ABC was removed. I was told there are 6 hydraulic struts/shocks (ABC) that will end up leaking and each one is $1,700. X 6 = $10,200. in just parts not including labor! These cars can be acquired at 10% to 15% of their original MSRP so the cost of admission is cheap but the repair cost can make you go broke! 🙄

This S600 video is definitely the best Bill has ever crafted. With a superlative example of virtuoso engineering. Stunning testament to Mercedes quality that this 82k mile car is in near new condition. V12's were definitely more on the reliable side [with strict maintenance] though rarer, once the M275's coil packs were upgraded. Notice the deceptively effortless dominance Bill gunned it from 85 to 125? Those days are over with V12's extinct now on S-Classes. W221 was peak S-Class in my opinion and there was still the S65 AMG at the top of the mountain.

I like how every review of these cars, and I do watch a lot of them to keep me close to my S550 I haven't driven much because of the pandemic. Everyone always says the little key pad on the center console is the phone control which isn't totally accurate. It also controls the radio presets which is nice because every time I get in a Mercedes rental now, I can't figure out how to use the radio. Yes you can dial a phone number with it but I only use it for the radio which makes it effortless to change your preset stations without taking your eyes off the road. Trying to use a radio or even adjust the AC in new cars today will get you killed unless you pull over to do it. To make calls in my S550, I hit the button on the steering wheel and say Call Home, Call Hooker or Call Drug Dealer and the phone can be in my trunk and the car will place the call for you like an old time operator used to do. The W221 is an engineering marvel and beats every car on the road in my opinion. Driving it makes me feel like I actually accomplished something in my life without actually doing so.

I've owned a 1989 560 SEC and I'll tell you, 4 years and $10K later it was worth every penny. I performed 90% of the work myself and although pricey, parts online are in par with Lexus/BMW. I own a 2011 S600 which I bought used. The tech is remarkable and it is quiet and smooth and quick. It is reliable-ish, but any repairs bring an astronomical price. Need to replace the spark plugs? No problem, just drop the whole f’n engine out of the car because the engine bay is so tight you can’t reach the spark plugs. Plus the spark plugs on each side are mounted in a rack with their own coils-12 each side. But wait. That’s not all. You have to be super careful not to twist that rack while pulling it out or putting it in, otherwise you break the plugs. And since the engine is out you might as well change the motor mounts (which are electronic thingamagigs) because they are going to go bad anyway trying to keep that heavy monster engine from leaping right through the hood. You’re lucky to get out with a $7,000 bill. If the sunroof breaks, no problem. Just replace the whole roof. Better yet, never use the sunroof. (My mechanic’s actual advice when I first showed him the car.) And then there’s the air suspension. On second thought, let’s not go there. And yet, I’m keeping the car, probably forever, because I’m otherwise never going to be able to drive anything this nice otherwise. And because I won’t be able to save up enough money to put a down payment on a new car anyway.

To me, I agree on the German luxo-barge views, Bill. My weakness would be the CLS 63 AMG. Only caveat? Not in a light color, white, silver/grey...then they look like rolling suppository

The interior and exterior is in perfect condition 👌. Someone who doesn't know anything about cars will definitely think its brand new.

Great video. I got a chance to buy a clean one for literally next to nothing off someone I know with 248,000 miles. Looked great and ran AMAZING. So I admit, after my house in a car junkie. I always have a 3rd vehicle to haul dogs around, let family member use,etc bc my top 2 vehicles are off limits. That being said, I will do no expensive maintenance or repairs. First expensive thing it needs, it's gone. The low price justified the purchase. If it's blows up I'll get a simpler 3rd vehicle like a Lucerne or Impala.Fingers crossed because having a new Ram and a Suburban, it's nice as hell to get in a car sometime. And believe it or not, it's the vehicle my neighbors talk to me about the most. Moral of the story for me is if you can get one cheap enough and it looks good and checks out mechanically, get it! If it last a year or 4 years enjoy the ride! Good luck to everyone.

Hey Bill keep up the great work! Loved these videos! Looked like a Benz possibly from the Lithuanian Crime Syndicate?

I have an 88 420SEL with 320K miles on the clock. Terrific car. Original engine and transmission. Turbine quiet. Absolute beast. All subsequent models in the S class have been nightmares. Mercedes cars are NOT the cars of aspirational dudes looking to buy a well maintained used classic. They're financial sinkholes.

Do love Bills reviews :p I have a 2011 S500L here in the UK, our fuel is very expensive so the 600 wasn't an option for my mileage. There really isn't anything better to roll around in unless you go to Bentley or Rolls Royce IMO.

Oh Bill, I had a friend that’s gone who was an exaggerator and a whingeing sarcastic drama queen, I just couldn’t get enough of this company. I hope you live a long time Bill, you’re very clever and very funny. Watch the video at 1.75 speed it’s even more hysterical.

Bought a 2007 in 2008 with 21k miles on it for $69,900 and I still have it. It’s expensive to keep up because it’s an expensive car. This ain’t no Scotty Kilmer cheap ass Celica crap.

Hey, you spent 1/3 of the vid adding your prints. 😎 S.O. to the mechanics with the 60g network scanner to keep these beasts wafting.

W221 is the only car worth driving in my opinion, but you do need to have an extra $10k laying around at all times incase something breaks. It's worth every penny and in my opinion was the SUMMIT for Mercedes because the S class beyond 2013 is all down hill as far as I'm concerned. If I had the room, I'd buy 3 more 2013 S550 to S63 or S65's to keep as back ups tucked away in a garage.

Well.. As a happy Mercedes Owner I would love that 600 but not as a daily unless I absolutely knew what was I was getting into. I have a 2013 W204 C250 Coupe Sport ➕ for my daily. It's an awesome Mercedes which brings me a smile every time I drive it. It's got the 1.8 GDI Turbo 4 with 201 Horsepower and 7 Speed Auto with Paddle Shifters/Economy or Sport mode. I know that seems aweful in the power department but it's still quick for it's size and weight and gets 480 miles on a single tank of 91 octane fuel. Fast, comfortable, fun, and relaible. What more could someone want on their way to work, church and shopping.
