You can go into the registry editor to change clear type from a RGB subpixel default to the actual BGR from the graphics clear type software in Ms Windows 10/11 by changing it in the clear type registry value for sub pixel type from its default to a value of 2. This will help with text clarity.

Ohhhh, I did not know this. Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately Asus needed the display back, so I've since returned it. Can't try this out now. :(

I've been using a 43 inch TV as my main monitor for a while now, due to spacing reasons, I need my main setup to double as the living room media center, so I don't really have a choice. It's a very versatile setup, usually acting as two different screens for browsing/working. Having it on a desk and being able to play controller games both on the chair closer or on the sofa is great too, but yeah, playing kb+m games is a bit cumbersome. My desk is 80cm deep so it sits around 70cm from my eyes, which helps, but it's still not ideal. It's a good experience, but you need to be aware of your use before committing. I've been looking into replacing my TV with an actual 43 inch monitor for a higher refresh rate and ease of access (thanks Samsung, forgetting HDMI inputs when disconnecting cables is such a great feature) and this one seems like a good option at £650.

Hi, great review. Do you think the need to sit further back from the monitor negates the advantages of buying a bigger monitor?
@kalestarler4 ай бұрын
I think there's probably a sweet spot! If you're too far back, it's probably only good for videos and movies (and some games). For work, you can't be too far back to read text. I guess it's more about what the primary usage is for this workspace

It depends what you're doing, but I think for work that is an ergonomic downgrade going from the ultrawide to that. My neck got strained after some months. Too much up and down, the ultrawide feels like two monitors in one.

Hey my friend. I can buy this new monitor for 400$ (no warranty though bc it's through a third party). I plan to use it for literally everything - movies, PC games, reading PDFs and ebooks, video editing, and everyday internet browsing. I got scared because I just read some really bad reviews of ghosting and smearing and there text isn't RGB but something else so it's supposedly not so pleasant. I need help deciding, please. If it helps, my GPU is 7900XT.

I love working on my 43 inch with my macbook pro. The problem is the pixel density for a 43 inch at 4k is kind of low and it's not exactly retina. What would be nice is 8k at 43 inch. That way it would be very close to retina display.
@kalestarler2 жыл бұрын
8k display would also require more GPU power too lol. Or alternatively, 32" 4k but sit closer lol
@bugged12122 жыл бұрын
@@kalestarler I have the M1 max, I think that’s capable of driving 8k’s. But yeah once you get used to 43 inch, there’s no going back to 32 or 27. I tried going back to 32 inch 4k LG, switched back in 30 mins, LOL. Oh well, waiting until the 8k becomes cheaper. I feel after 8k it will start getting into diminishing returns territory.

I have used both 40" and 43" 4k monitors. Basically 40" is the borderline. You do get some neck pain having to look up. Unfortunatly, no manufacturer is making a 40" 4K. Based on my usage, a 37" would be the perfect size for PC work. 40" 4K monitor is liveable, but 43" 4K is harder to live with.....
@kalestarler Жыл бұрын
I'm currently using a 39.7" ultrawide. It's essentially a 32" 4K display but ultrawide version. I think it's the sweet spot - doesn't have that strain with too much vertical height, but also no strain horizontally with a 49" 32:9.
@NorthSea-xb7jk6 ай бұрын
how is it now ? still using? I think if sitting close- then its non-ergonomic- too close, if sitting further then text is too small...so.. no point in 43', its too big for multipurpose monitor. Tthey are good for console gaming.

How was the HDR on your monitor? I tried HDR on my XG43UQ in Windows 10 and it made the picture way worse (smeared details, colors were blunted and grey-ish, the whole picture was very colorless overall) with HDR content like movies and KZbin HDR clips. Do I have a faulty monitor or something?
@kalestarler2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. I don't recall it being particularly bad, but I think I only left it on just to try with one of the movies I was testing. Maybe check with their support team?

Turning on HDR for my display really only gives benefits in a few scenarios. If I watch a 4K HDR video on youtube, it actually does look really good. But everything else in my operating system (the desktop, applications, image viewing, etc) all look worse. So I don't use HDR anymore.

BGR subpixel layout is mind boggling to me. I can notice fuzz around white objects it's just weird. HDR is nice and bright but had to return due to awful pixel response time, no good for gaming compared to fast smooth IPS panels.
@kalestarler Жыл бұрын
True. Although I think at this size, you are meant to play/sit at a further distance from the panel which makes some of those flaws less noticeable. I think for a less casual gamer, getting a proper fast 144/240hz 1440p might be better
