German has a lot of cool words like that don't you? Words that are a smushing of things? Forgive my ignorance lol
@CarinaCoffee
@CarinaCoffee 3 жыл бұрын
@@itsactuallyrandom yeah we do! I think they're called compound words in English. Basically you take words and add them in a row and they make sense. Kinda how bread knife is also to words that describe a specific thing, but in German you can almost describe anything with a compound word. One of the longest is "Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher" it is one of those kitchen gadgets that help you take off the head of a soft boiled egg.

I have one of these, I bought it years ago so that I could make healthier deli meat for my SO without all of the added junk, but only used it for that a couple of times and it has since lived in the closet. You've inspired me to pull it out for bread, which never crossed my mind!

I used to work at a deli (pre being veggie)... occasionally someone would come in and ask for super thick slices of baloney/bologna. I was so confused, but frying it up like a bologna steak is apparently a thing. So the wide slice setting could have been for that.

We use an electric kitchen knife to cut bread, it stores away small. Can use it for cutting many things. The electric knife doesn't squish the soft loaves and still cuts through the crusty ones. We also have a collapsible bread cutting guide, folds away into the size of like 3x30x20cm.

I haven't even watched the video yet, but I moved to a country where they have a bread slicer, and I want to say YES. Not for slicing bread. If you intend on just slicing bread, absolutely not. ...But I love making oven baked tomatoes. There is no other device that can slice tomatoes so thinly and quickly. Also, zucchini lasagna? Yes. Vegan cheez? Much better than a cheez slicer. (I am a German living in Sweden, and that word literally means bread slicing machine, also pretty sure my machine is exactly the same one.)

I bought a version of this that is almost like a carbon copy of yours. Everything except the name and the add-in of a mechanism that allowed you to adjust the slice thickness. I bought mine from walmart here in Canada.

Yes keep it, it doesn't take up much space and you use it often enough that's it's worth it. - The juicer on the other hand doesn't seem worth it ,they are usually hard to clean,take up a lot of space ,you lose a lot of nutrients that are in the pulp and have a hard time figuring out what to do with the left over pulp.

Also I'm super sorry about the audio quality, all the other videos I filmed that day are fine with the mic under my shirt but for some reason, being by my neck and in the open air means that I sound like I shoved the mic in a toilet bowl. Every loaf I bake I feel like I'm getting better at cutting uniform slices, but then I cut a slice and the bottom is super thin -_- Haha. As a German this sure is a blast from the past! My grandma used to have one too and it was always out on the counter next to the fridge. Funny you mentioned it being a deli slicer, I'm pretty sure my grandma also mentioned you can slice stuff like that with it too, but yeah, us Germans we usually use it for bread. I wouldn't buy one unless I baked my own bread, because you can have the bakery slice the bread for you, free of charge and supermarket breads also either come pre-sliced or if it's a supermarket where they freshly bake frozen bread and bread buns each day, a few of them also have a bread slicing station there where you put it into the machine and it slices it for you.
