Is A Cheap Printer Good Enough For Professional Prints?

I've just bought myself a Canon PIXMA iP8750 A3+ printer so that I can print my own photos at home. I'm so excited about it.
I was worried the print quality would not be anywhere near as good as more expensive professional printers like the Canon PRO 100S, so I was very keen to test the printer out and see if it was good enough to produce prints that I could potentially sell.

these days you don't need to print docs, just have a passport with data files on it for legal, then if you need hard copies you just print that off only

I purchased one & within 3 mths it failed (wouldn't sw. on anymore) Got a replacement from Canon (refurbed and scratched) These machines devour ink cartridges and its my believe that every time they are switched on there is an long wait before you can print -as the machine spins and whirls - flushing ink from the tanks. I got a clogged cyan head and lost almost 1\2 tank of ink just to clean it. Run off a few A3 prints and up pop's the ink monitors to say your running out! I'm so happy now with my Brother MFC-J53300W that prints & prints & prints and ink lasts for yonks!

Hi Chris, I believe you can set custom paper sizes up to a length of 26 inches for canon printers...using the custom paper size in the canon driver software.....can you you confirm you can with this printer?, if so you can do panoramic....

Hi Chris, About 3 years ago a photographer from Toronto Suggested to me to consider selling my images at a farmers Market, I live in Ontario Canada and I don't know if in England you have the same kind of markets, but if you do give it some thought . over the last two seasons I have sold many images and it has been a very worth while effort. Also from your presentation people see all that you may have to offer, I have booked weddings, portrait shoots, private lessons ect so for me it has been great exposure and a significant part of my business. I looked at getting a printer and doing some prints as well, but then after looking at the cost of ink, I decided against it for now. Instead, I found a place that comes highly recommended and have had a couple dozen done up. Mostly for ourselves from our bike ride around the world, but I also printed some out for family and friends that joined along and gifted them with nice frames. I need to buy my first replacement inks for the 6850 after the inks that came with my printer ran out. I understand that the inks needed are numbered 550 and 551 however I've come across a grey ink with is also numbered 551 and this doesn't appear to be an ink that came with the printer originally but its sold for the same machine. Hi Chris, Thanks for you video, it has been the most useful for me in my decision to get either the Pro 100 or iP8750. I think I'm going to end up going with the iP8750 and use the money saved to buy OEM inks for it as longevity is a concern for me. Get the ICC profiles for the printer/paper combinations. Canon provide some for their papers which I use for printing on high quality glossy paper to good effect.

Canon specified an average of 150 borderless 10x15 color prints. An A3 print is 88% larger than an A6 (10x15) print. That means... with the normal cartridges you can print up to 14 A3 prints borderless and A3+ of cause even less. With the XL cartridges you can reach up to 44 borderless A3 prints... but it depends very much on what you're printing regualy.

In germany you pay around 60 euros for a complete set of XL ink cartridges so you're paying around 75 cent per A3 print and 25 cent per A6 print. Still not that bad even if you calculate the cost of paper. I recommend to buy the XL ink because with the normal one you'll probably lose money.

Hi sorry for slow response. You can get profiles for Canon papers, you should be able to get them on their website. Personally I print from Lightroom and just select 'managed by printer' as it always does a good job for me. It might take a bit of trial and error playing around with things though. When printing you usually have to raise the brightness a little for example.

I've added a photo of a photo printed by the printer to show the quality. kzbin.infoUgkx-p39-0aeo2zzlTJzXhwlZ_zUNm1lnIci Many reviews complain about the heavy yellow tone of printed photos; avoid this by editing your photos towards the blue end of the temperature spectrum. I also suggest increasing the exposure a little when editing because photos will print a little dark if you do not.If you follow these steps to edit your photos prior to printing, your photos will look too bright and too blue on your phone but they will print perfectly.Highly recommend!

Hi I do prints for nurserys etc and print on 350gsm through a local printer. I want to do it myself now, would this print take that paper weight and print well? not photo paper jut a thick poster paper of 350gsm?

You have to hold down the small blue button on the printer until the white power light flashes twice and then press the WPS button on your router. You will have to check your router to see which button this is.

sooo I have Chromebook and ended up calling it in. a little diff from Android, apple, etc etc. for Chromebook users: pres WPS on router then wifi button on printer (do this once you've given printer time to power up)hold middle button (printer will need paper), after 6th flash let go, moments later paper will get sucked in, when it comes out it will have specs. open web browser type the IP address (mine was 10.0.0.x.x.x.) into where you'd put website. you will be directed to a new "site" where ink levels appears and to the left are prompts to set up the printer. once prompts are fully followed open a new blank webpage and hit CTL P (Print) to test the connection and it should be ready. I've tried the obvious ways but nothing worked I.T says Chromebook is completely diff from MOST CPUs and if you have a CB give it a go. took me 2hrs of trying to restart, reroute, reboot etc etc before I called. glad I did, never would of got it...thanks for such quick response though. hope this is useful for HP CB owners

I never used this printer but i think this applies to all canon inkjet printer. The gloss/matt paper will work, but as long as its not too thick almost all paper will work. I'm a special case as I'm a designer, but I buy all kinds of papers in the world from Japan, Taiwan etc, and even those will weird textures work, of course quality slightly differs, sometimes get a little inky but inky is really cool as well. But because its inky, the very thin office paper might be soggy first till it dries

I can't say whether or not I'd recommend it over those printers. Depends on your situation and what you're looking for. I am though still using the printer and are very happy with it and for my needs it is perfect at the moment. Unless I was selling a TON of prints professionally I couldn't justify the cost of the more pro printers.

5:10 I've been told to Pro100 uses dye-based inks (which can soak into the paper and look more faded) while most inkjets use PIGMENT-based inks (which look more vibrant because they sit on top of the paper). But I'm no expert.

Yeah I did, I sold a few prints but very sporadically. It done better at first but died off lately.

I have Canon Pixma TR4522 it is a great printer with SUPER AMZING picture quality and is pretty cheap at Walmart going at $44.00 bucks

Whats the thickness of paper this will print on? will it print on cardstock? 300gsm etc

The paper I have is Canon photo paper 265gsm - I've not tested it but I believe the maximum you can print at is 300gsm (going what I've seen from Canons specs)

@@ChrisGouge "Cheap" does not classify by price comparison though, that just says it's lower priced. $300 is a hell of a lot of money to fork out only to find it does not work and you've just burned $300 and can't return it, that aint cheap lol. "Cheap printer" as to be viewed as is in the quality and results, not price from best buy to pawn shop that's all I'm saying.
