Are the setup ink cartridges that come with the printer the new Chromalife 100+ inks, or the old Chromalife 100 (not 100+)? I have this same printer and I can't tell which version of the inks they are. It is not written anywhere on the printer box or on the cartridges. I think they must be the old 100 inks or Canon would have clearly wanted to put 100+ on the box as a featured selling point. I called Canon Support and asked. Even CANON could not tell me! Their answer was . . . .they don't know! Very disappointing. Think I'm going to toss them and put the 100+ in. Since I'm going to be selling these prints, don't want to take a chance with old inks that fade faster.

One thing to point out for you though is that the prints you'll get from this printer will not be archival or lightfast and they'll be susceptible to UV fading in the sun. Best look for a professional giclee printer near you - they're not too expensive. I have my ip8750 with a continuous ink system supply (CISS) from cityinkexpress.co.uk saved myself a LOT of money on replacement ink cartridges. NB I DON'T use the Canon printer for my art prints but for photo refs for my work.

I'm on my second Canon ip8750, been using Canon for about six years. The main thing I've found out about this printer is that you can get away with printing in the standard quality mode and not high quality mode. This gives more ink life. I've been a pro photographer all my life, and I've done tests to compare the two, and believe me, there's no difference. This doesn't apply to black & white, because black & white can only be printed in the high quality mode. Thank you for your tutorial.

A3 borderless yes use Canon easy print or my image garden,m also prints A3+ borderless

the colours you're getting will be a result of a combination of things and the printer is actually probably not the defining factor. You're using a mac so you can prob get away without screen calibration, but I would recommend this as a first step. Secondly, you need the right colour profile from Canon for the paper you're using. You can download this online and then install it in LR. Finally, you'll need to proof the print in LR to get the colours right (or tones for B&W which I assume you don't do). You can prob find vids describing how to do this online. Only then can you be pretty close to certain that what comes out of the printer will match your expectations.

Good to know on the printer, I need to break down and buy one. I seem to give up because there are so many of them. I dont believe I have seen one with the additional cartridges. I hope this goes very well for your business. Question, if you didn’t sign the painting before the picture was taken do you just sign the print for people?? And would you sign it on the border or the back???

I will sign the print regardless of whether the painting is signed or not Essie. I think that's generally what people want.

@@donr8191 I believe it is with the plastic and matt board as well ^^.. If you purchase like.. 100 envelopes on amazon it will cost around 20 cent each envelope, the same goes for the plastic wrap

Did you not need to set up your paper and colour profiles on Photoshop print set up? (aside from your basic printer settings).. so your screen colours matched 95% without setting up any profiles. I have my set up so Photoshop manages the colour, and the correct matt paper profile...and it still prints out Purple instead of Pink and the rest of the colours are way off.

How do you get equal borders on your prints? I am pulling my hair out as the bottom edge of the paper margin is a lot bigger than the other margins. I've tried everything I can think of to adjust the margins but not getting anywhere. Can anyone help?

Maybe a bit late, but I got this printer of my brother who "upgraded". He could not get the colors right. But after watching this video and doing the adjustments as described, the prints look great! I'm using it for printing photos of nature and wildlife. Really chuffed with the result. To see your own photos printed are really satisfying and a confidence booster.

The companies that produce printers and particularly ink , are bigger crooks than the ' great train robbers ' . Ink costs pennies to produce , apart from huge profit they expect to make , much of the cost is incurred by the technology to stop the copying the cartridges !

Hi Patrick. I've been having major problems with my Brother printer. I guess the problem is my own fault, because I bought compatible inks, for some reason the printer wont except the yellow ink now. I've been told its because the printers memory knows its a compatible. I came to the conclusion that my printer had packed up, or simply broke down and therefore was going to chuck it out. But, its the inks that is the problem, so my advice to anyone is to buy the correct inks, they last longer and the printed colour is much better. Love your set up and I think its a steal for £450.

Agreed i will only be using canon inks for the reasons you mention and the quality of the inks as i am selling the prints they i need to use the branded canon inks.

When buying an inkjet printer the manufacturer creates ICC profiles for different ink paper combinations. If you decide to use third party inks you would need to get an ICC profile created for that ink/paper combination. Even if you use original inks and papers it is advisable to get your own customer Printer profiles made as every printer will print slightly different.

I just purchased a Canon Pixma Pro 100 and had to download ICC Profiles before printing from Photoshop. Did you have to do that before you printed. I think your print came out very nice.

You were ripped off with that copy of lightroom buddy. It would have been more cost effective to get a Photographer Creative Cloud subscription - you get Photoshop and Lightroom for £9.98 a month and you always have the latest version. It might be more cost effective for you to stick the copy of lightroom on Ebay and subscribe to creative cloud.
