my rough collie liked to go for a 5 mile walk every day, 3 miles off the leash. And yes, he liked to bark. He was 26 inches at withers and 65 pounds. He was the most obedient dog I ever had and a friend like no other. I miss him every day.

That is a perfect size for a RC, ours is just a bit small. I think most of us would rather spend time with out dogs than anyone else!

I really think the personality of a collie is dependent on breeding and their line. My collie is the quietest dog I’ve ever had. He isn’t vocal. He also is a 2 on the energy scale - he requires next to no exercise. He is also fine on his own in the backyard whilst I’m working/out of the house and has been this way since he was a puppy. His coat is a lot to maintain but besides that he’s the best dog Ive ever had. He can be stubborn but is well behaved. Aloof with strangers but very friendly once he knows you’re a welcome visitor. He’s so gentle and loving towards babies/children. He is the perfect family dog. I would encourage anyone considering this breed to research breeders and find a good show line. If you tell the breeder what you’d like in a temperament there would be a collie for you.

I’ve been a collie mom in the past 27 years and saved / rescued/ adopted 13 of them during this time. Today we have a fifteen years old boy, 17 and 15 month old girls and a 9 months old boy collie. They are all extremely intelligent, have their own unique personality and amazing loving, fun, exceptional companions. During the decades, I have saved also a chow-chow, a Samoyed, an Ovcharka, a Kuvasz and a pitbull-border collie mix . They were all wonderful and an honor to love and care for. With all respect to all breeds, I have a never ending love and respect for collies , and while I can still move, walk and care for them , I will continue rescuing and loving them. I would say, I’m a true fan 👍😆😍

We are looking for a companion for our Samoyed and thought a rough collie would be a great match but we want to be mindful of our neighbour as they have already commented on our Samoyed barking so feeling a little disheartened to think a rough collie may be an excessive barker so we might not be able to go ahead with one now 😔 We do everything we can to make sure our dog is mentally stimulated and he just barks in a sort of tantrum if we go out so wanted a dog to keep him Company now I'm wondering would they both bark or would they just keep each other company for those short periods? Great video by the way 👏😊

Any tips for finding rough collies in need of rescue? Love these dogs, but the breeders I've been able to find are _so expensive_
@funfan515 Жыл бұрын
@@priestesslucy Hi, There are rough collie rescues in almost every state, where you can find collies in need to adopt! They are waiting for homes ! You have to go through a screening process to make sure, you are a good match and able to provide and care for the dog, because they don’t want to put these animals through more suffering and more trauma or loosing more owners. Good luck! All of my animals ( except the first in 26-27 years came as unwanted “leftover” puppies or elderly ones) and they are all amazing! But you have to have an open mind and very loving, caring, and flexible.

I’ve always had a Rough Coated Collie. When I needed a service dog, it was a natural choice to get a Rough Coated Collie. Having a service dog which was family friendly and socially accepted, makes being in public with a dog where dogs are not normally seen, needs a special breed. Because of my dog’s training, barking is only when alerting. I’m glad I have a large, fenced yard (3 acres) has been a saving grace during lock down. My dog is professionally groomed weekly. Both my late Rough Coated Collie and my current Rough Coated Collie have devoted fans when in public.

Our Rough Collie is three now and she seems to get slower and more mellow. Not sure how she would be as a service dog. The temperament would make them 100% the service dog!

My family had a wonderful tricolored collie for nearly 14 years, and he was the biggest sweetheart ever. He always loved being fed and petted and spoiled. He truly thought the world revolved around him, and let him think that. He also loved poking people in the face with his big sweet nose, especially kids. He was basically a celebrity dog whenever he went out for a walk, and every kid wanted to pet him. He made everyone’s lives amazing. The frequent grooming and walking were a bit to handle, so maybe that’s a problem for a house with many young children or something like that. All the same, collies are still the most wonderful dogs ever to walk the planet.

Fantastic video. I agreed with almost everything. The only exception was your comment about endurance. I used to take my collies on 20 mile walks. After an hour of rest they were ready to go (but I wasn't). Rough collies were known for covering up to 100 miles per day while tending sheep (back when they were still used as working dogs).

Thanks for the nice comments! Rough Collies are wonderful but with that coat they do take some extra work. I don't have any kids so can dedicate lots of time to my dogs. Just this morning I was thinking one hour walk in the morning, half hour at lunch, one hour at night. 2 1/2 hours a day for just walking. That does not include Cooking, feeding, grooming and bathing. I love hearing about Old Time Scotch Collies, they are a rare breed and want to make sure they are around for future generations.
@elizabethgibson47643 жыл бұрын
That is awesome!😁 I have watched a lot of your videos in the past and your journey throughout!😁 You are doing great by your dogs! It is a lot of work and takes alot of dedication to properly care for and train dogs! My kids at home are 9, 13, 15 and 18. My oldest son jogs with them to the park EVERY morning, (as he is very athletic). Daytime is usually them running and playing at home or in the backyard. About every evening we as a family drive to a park near a lake and play fetch or catch for an hour or two. The kids all have been really dedicated to helping to walk and train our dogs as well! When my 15 year old son was diagnosed with T- lymphoblastic leukemia, last year, it was very challenging for me to be hands on. With me being gone for weeks or months at a time. My other kids and also I sometimes would bring Gracie (our Scotch Collie) with us to a hotel and worked well for us,being the situation we were dealt with! At about 6 months old Gracie was like a therapy pup for my son! Thank you again for your videos! 😁I really enjoy them all. I hope you have a Blessed and wonderful day! 🕊

Id agree with this assessment. I've always wanted rough collie, I got 1 a few years back and they've been multipling since lol. Lady my sable headed white is my favorite dog I've ever had! Blue merle is my fave color (saldy can't find any) the color headed whites are my 2nd. The lassie dog comment is the truth, I had to start ignoring it cause I'd say yes she is a ROUGH COLLIE like lassie lol. Also same with them calling them large shelties or border collies, this breed demands respect.....though I wish they would of been more creative with the breed name lol! Everyone loves my whites since collies are rare these days even more rare the color. Also you have white factor (first step in getting color headed whites), sable merles, mahogany..not sure if their actually recognized, but also bi blacks. They have a double dilute from the result of 2 blue merles being bred, unfortunately they can have many health defects. Many confuse the dilute white with a color headed white, but their very different.

This dog is all fine and dandy for you owners but a new neighbor moved in with one of these things and it is EVIL. Because of Lassie, I used to think they were cute but I now hate them with a passion. Our front doors share a porch so I'm subject to loud and aggressive barking whenever I leave or enter my apartment. (You know, because these things are so territorial). If I happen to be outside and come upon her walking her dog, she struggles to hold the leach on the monster as it violently struggles to come up at me. If you own one of these things, you live in close quarters with other people (like in an apartment complex), and they act this way too toward others, then do the right thing and handle/control your dog right or move away. If you don't, then you're a bad owner and deserve to have your dog taken away from you. These things are not meant to live in urban areas.
@angelangel61442 жыл бұрын
Most dog is territorial, and up the owner to train them not to be territorial and aggressive. Rough collie is a sweet and gentle breed. If the owner can’t train them I think they should not own a dog .
