Hi Boni, lovely episode. Julian is 100% correct, a large majority of IT professionals don’t end up working as what they studied for, our realm is forever evolving and we adapt and find ourselves in other amazing spheres within the IT realm. I started out with my CompTia A+ N+ Security+ Server+ and I’ve worked as Helpdesk to IT Procurement to Server admin to network engineer and now currently working as a IT Manager

I really liked the interview and I can share Julian's sentiments. I am also a software engineer but I don't have a degree however, my journey was slightly different. I am actually a self taught web developer. I used to study computer enginerring at Tuks but got dismissed but by then I had started a web development business, leaving Tuks meant I didnt have acccess to clientelle anymore but what it meant was that when an opportunity came to interview for an internship at an IT company, I already had a proven body of work. That is how I got my first job. Its been six years now and thinks can only get better

Guys all sectors are outsouced to IT companies only few internal IT are left, IT companies doesn't care about your degree they need u to fix problem and know certain application or skills set that will help them to deliver a solution to those contracted clients remember IT companies have tender and to keep this tenders rolling they have to persue people who will hit ground running ask me will tell u more
@Gabriel-xq6tn11 ай бұрын
Everyone outsources in IT. Some outsource more than others. I believe even those tech companies such as Accenture, Dimensional data, etc at some point they outsource. The question is now why these outsourcing life cycles? In my opinion the learning process for new technologies may be too lengthy or costly to achieve or deliver some services. Thus, they have to outsource somewhere else and concurrently learn or be trained on how to use these tools.

I will always say get a degree, specialize and get a certification and get experience. Do simulated projects, create a portfolio. You can get a certification first but somewhere in your career go get that degree.
@liferesetwithboni6 ай бұрын
Maybe you didn't understand the context of the video, we are talking to people who didn't get an opportunity to do a degree and not saying those who can get degrees to stop getting degrees. The video is showing people what they can do with their certificates. It's not a " don't waste your time with a degree" type of video.
@trivagravia48376 ай бұрын
@@liferesetwithboni l got the context very well ma'am. So many variables stated in the video. Im picking my own angle here. Hence lm saying along the way if one has a chance go for a degree..unless if one is content being at entry level, or juniour management. Bcos definitely if a degreed person with a certification shows up; that soul is going for top level management..that's a fact.

In IT, I think how much you train by getting certificates, collaborate in open source projects is important. I work for a research institute (government), most folks there got PhDs, Masters but us who are in IT fields( Developers, Cloud...) are the only ones with either National Diploma or Bsc Computer Science. The reason being in IT you need to prove what you know and getting people with a Master, PhD in Computer science is not always easy and they are very costly. The degree is is important though. Me, after my Bsc Comp science, I went the certification road.

@@liferesetwithboni, most of them have degree but don't understand what they studied. 2 weeks back I was interviewing a candidate who had a overall of 79% for his degree with 17 qualifications out of 30 modules he had but couldn't answer basic questions such as:" In simple term, explain what's an operating system? Or what is Semaphore? What's Deadlock?" I asked him to write a simple program(either in C, C++, C#,Java or Python.... We have goods computers with all IDE dedicated for interviews only) with comments but failed to write. I won't mention the name of the institution he was coming from but that was so disappointing. So degree does not necessarily mean that one has knowledge

I set my number (on the higher end of market salary ) in one case I set my salary range at 35% more than I was earning, after the interview process they came back with a number that was equal to about 24-26%. Was obviously more than happy to accept. Be bold. but be worth it too. Do research on what the company does and try figure out what their tech stack would be so when you get to that interview that number you set is justified.

Like you mentioned that you deal with finance professionals, so would those be like finance directors? And what do they ask you to do in terms of finance software

Once you have the A+ & N+ certificate. For someone with no experience is it hard to get into the field ? Or where do you start cause companies always want experience ! Or do they train you first in the IT space?

That’s a big fat lie. How do you automate stuff without at least python. You must code as a devops engineer
@juliankriel59911 ай бұрын
Ansible, gitlab runners, team city , Jenkins, XSOAR, Siemplify. Perhaps a Python script here or there. Nothing too complex on that side. Perhaps another few examples or you good ?
@ucol206811 ай бұрын
@@juliankriel599 and ansible isn’t scripting right? Terraform is called infrastructure as code for a reason m. Please let’s stop telling people what they need to hear to feel good. A devops or cyber security expert must know how to right scripts, which is to control a program created with codes.
@juliankriel59911 ай бұрын
Funny you bring up Teraform, that’s yaml. No coding required there. (Ansible too) or is that a lie ? While I stated where I am in my career now I do need to code. But do you need to code to start working in devops no, no you do not. Perhaps for your position in devops that was a requirement. For me, not and it is possible to replicate. However this isn’t Reddit so will leave it here. Come see whatever lies I spew in the next video

The degree is important though. The big corporates need the degree even in IT. IT in the big corporates is definitely not career suicide in IT

I actually reflected on that statement after I re-heard it watching the interview. I agree with you to a point, however there are some who cannot afford to start a degree or simply do not know that they can get the IT ball rolling without a degree. That is where I want to dig in. For the people who are lost or don't know what to do, lets show them a way to make some money while they figure things out. thanks for the response

Thank you for sharing your background. I find it quite intriguing. I hold a degree in Information Technology and am certified in AWS CCP, CompTIA A, and Security +. Despite these qualifications, breaking into the tech industry has proven challenging. I have experience in customer service , Could you kindly recommend any agencies that assist job seekers in the tech field, my end goal is to some day work in cloud security.
