It's 2020 and LS swaps are a dime a dozen - it's almost guaranteed you'll hear one at any drift event. But some people take a look at that swap, and say... why separate the motor from the original car? If you're into drifting in any way, you've probably heard of Matt Field - who has asked the same question before. And that's how he ended up running Corvettes as a daily, as a competition car, and as a drift beater. While he did have one major driveline issue during Drift Week 2020, in general the car is stout as can be and still has all the creature comforts of a standard 'Vette. Dammit Matt, you've got us thinking bad things now.

If you getting one for drifting,get a salvage one. And save the rest of the mula for one that is low mileage and great condition. Since this will be the last of front engine mount Corvettes and the good looking ones,c7 and c8 look like angry fish.

I've been sayin this since 2011...I'm glad people are waking up finally. I've been buying vettes since 2010...removable quarters, LS on board, stiff chassis, fits tons of tire, light, balanced with the transaxle setup adn torque tube...it's too easy.

The engine and drivetrain might be stock, but he have done mods to the steering and the car is wider in the front with more steering angle and the rollcage have to make it more stiff. But that is mods you kinda have to do to make any car a drift car. So I guess it's a good as any other platform.

It didn't need the cage to make it stiffer. He did that to run tandem at events. Aaron Losey's C6 just has modded knuckles from Vettenuts, a hydro, and coilovers and it seems to work well.

modern drift cars have been set up in that way a lot now. And it is for many reasons in different chassis. some low in the back makes less grip, more overall stability , more travel in the front for rough tracks, and more room for more steering angle.

That's what I've been telling people, instead of going through all that BS to swap a S chassis, just get a Corvette. Better chassis, electronics that actually work with everything, and most importantly, it's designed FROM THE FACTORY with it in mind so the engine/chassis combo actually works well

For a regular drift event, it's just fun to throw cars around and drift with friends. For competition, it's judged like most action sports. They're scored on execution and consistency, not lap times or other measurable numbers. Part of it is a style competition too. Who has the most angle, makes the most smoke, etc. It's basically motorsports for people that just wanna have fun and stop pushing for another tenth of a second on track.

The C6 is mostly a restyled C5 with bigger engines and the C4 is great without the Optispark later years got. It just really lacks steering angle.

Well if you REALLY want to go "tit for tat" as they say - 4 Wheel & Off Road's week long 'Ultimate Adventure' off road-road trip is FAR more gnarly than ANY other 'endurance road trip' kinda event BUT - that's not what it's about. There's cars at Drag Week that CAN hot lap all day, but they aren't running 5s & 6s and they're actually competing for a class win at DW, so parts breakage is too much of a risk when you've invested everything into competing in a class. Now, Ultimate Adventure is almost guaranteed parts breakage, or you probably aren't trying that hard and being a little bitch doing a lot of winching. But off-road guys are pretty gnarly and have different standards for "street car/truck/full tube buggy..." than the rest of the automotive world. NONE of these are easy though, and all require a ton of real deal prep on the level of actual motorsports, but from one's home garage. In fact, maybe Ultimate Adventure, Drag Week, and Drift Week are the 'Triple Crown' of organized gearhead road trips? Unfortunately, UA is much harder to get in though
