Ok, I need help in understanding something they present on a weekly basis. For example, when the chart at 2:15 into the video was shown it was showing the S and P 500 VS Tech. I have no idea which is the tech or which is suppose to be the S and P 500, can anyone help me out? Because if you look at the tech stocks from 2013, you'll see stocks such as apple, amazon, google, nvidia, so on and so on have crushed it, doesn't look anything like what is being shown. Then at 6:32 in this presentation, the XLK tech etf beat all other competitors, so what gives?

the charts that include two values, such as SPY:XLY show the ratio of the first to the second asset. These charts are good for showing the relative strength of the first to the second, and help in the decision which of the two to own. In other words, it's about leadership *within* a healthy stock market.

​@@iamric23 Chris' main point is that the ratio SPY:XLK shows a multi-year downtrend. The recent weakness in tech (July 2024 is recent in multi-year terms) seems to be a "normal, to be expected" counter-trend rally. Keyword here is "seems". In the stock markets, nothing is guaranteed.

@@iamric23 2:15 says tech has been the leader for years in comparison to the broad market, but since July of this year, this leadership has been weakening. A similar situation could be seen in the first 9 months of 2022. A short-term reversal however does not constitute a long-term trend. If the reversal plays out, and the leadership of tech really does turn out to be kaput, we'll see that in due course. I wouldn't worry about this. SPY is already quite tech-heavy, so you're fine either way. The really important thing is the general trend of the market, which I would say is clearly bullish.
