Very sound advice. All these years I am following are the steps: 1. Companies valuation 2. Business sectors 3. Cashflow and how companies able generate cash flows 4. Debt. Avoid companies highly geared because these companies might be badly hit when business fundamentals change. 5.Dividend yields is very important because it helps you to have peace of mind to withstand crises. 5. Cut lost if necessary. During Covid I advised my friend to sell all their SIA shares and switch to DBS but sadly it too painful for him to do it. Sadly to say many people are holding into losing stocks over the years till worthless.

Investment means we must be paid to hold onto stocks

Thank you! These are great steps! Hopefully, your friend made back his investment in SIA post-Covid!

SIA already went back up already. What to worry ? Not long term fundamentals gone wrong. Just macro effect. Now it's recovery already. As long as its good firm, nothing to worry.

Well true SIA is a good company I agree. Covid crisis all plane are grounded zero revenue. Cost of business and maintenance cost to upkeep. For 3 years SIA suffered losses and zero dividend paid out. Fortunately it’s was through our Government support that SIA recovered earlier than other airlines that captured the market share first when the market opened. On the other hand banks were able to function during Covid crisis. DBS at $20 dividend yield 7.2%. Don’t forget during crisis and I am receiving 7.2% dividend yield. Crisis and I am receiving higher income than before crisis. By 6 months time My portfolio were in the black. In less than 2 years I sold half of my DBS at about $33 for other recovery stocks. Beginning of this year bought back DBS from about $31 to $34 and received bonus shares. DBS latest share price trading above $43. Do you see the picture? Lesson to learn, don’t hold onto losses but look out for winners.

That’s the funny thing about psychology. When markets keep hitting ATH, investors doubt their entry. When markets do dip, they might be too afraid to enter. Just gotta set targets and make sure to execute on them 😅

Just a question, since companies are run by humans, should assessment of the behavior come first before the numbers in balance sheet, PnL, valuation etc.?
@TheFifthPersonChannel22 күн бұрын
Assessing management behavior often requires time, so we prioritize screening companies based on their financial metrics first, as it's a quicker process. If a company meets our financial criteria, we then proceed with deeper research, including evaluating management behavior. Hope this helps!

Wow telling it like can see the future. Which crystal ball brand and where to buy ya?
Yes, Thai Bev is not incorporated in Singapore which is why it is not a CPF-approved stock.

As of the end of Q3 2024, Berkshire Hathaway held $325 billion in cash and cash equivalents, which is roughly one-third of the company's total value. This significant cash reserve reflects Warren Buffett's cautious approach amid current market conditions, as he looks for attractive investment opportunities. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYqVlX1unLCnpqc
