I took 500mg for my first ever dose of niacin right before bed tonight after watching a different video the other day where he recommended it. I had no idea the "flushing" he mentioned would be THAT intense! It woke me up dead out of my sleep, whole body BURNING and heart racing! I was so freaked out. All I could do was keep praying I would be ok and I wouldn't need to be rushed to the hospital! And then, after my heart wasn't pounding as much, it started to feel like a bad allergic reaction. I'd say the burning was about everywhere except my feet and my face, but my ears were burning. Then I started itching on my neck and chest and then I started breaking out everywhere on my torso. I had gotten up to look in the mirror at my skin with the little bumps all over and to see if I scratched any welts onto myselfbfrom the itching, but had to lay back down because i felt light-headed and didnt want to pass out. And then after a while it moved to mild tingling in my feet and on my face, with some burning and prickling still on any parts of my body that were in contact with the bed/pillow. As i continued to lay there, though, I felt a profound sense of relaxation even though my skin was all Prickly and burning still. It was like the burning came and went in waves, growing less and less intense each time but my muscles felt so relaxed. My face did eventually start burning also. It was an interesting trip, I tell ya

I thought, “I guess this is how I go out.” It subsided after 10 minutes. Then it came back. It felt like my head was going to explode through my ears. My heart was racing & pounding. My back felt like it was in the grips of a boa constrictor. My chest & heart hurt. I raced to the bathroom cabinet & took bayer NSAIDS. I’m glad I found comments that relate. Did you know that niacin can be used for addictions. The founder of AA treated his own alcohol addiction and wanted to share this with others with addiction and tell his recovery story. However the other men involved with AA wouldn't let him tell others about how he used niacin for his alcoholism. They created the 12 step program always stating that once an alcoholic always an alcoholic...which I believe was a disservice for those seeking help with their addictions in my humble opinion.....

I think its neglectful not to mention that some people may get a very severe reaction similar to anaphylaxis reaction. 250 mg. Half the recommended dose caused my throat to swell, gave me severe stomach pain, tingling and itching all over including a rash. I was beet red, hot and stinging for well over an hour. Left me feeling nauseated and beat up. Maybe it should be advised to start out on a much much lower dose to see what kind of a reaction you get. One authority says maximum dose should be 35 mg. That's a far cry from 500! Do yourself a favor and start on a very low dose. Since this episode I've learned other safer strategies to accomplish the same goal of reducing cholesterol.

I do Niacin flushes somewhat regularly. I take 25,000 percent AND I use a brush to brush my skin, it feels so good. Those are histamines being release as toxins are being expelled from your cells. I will do this while in the sauna at the gym and boy is it something to behold. The sweating and skin flushing, my skin and face looks so much better after my workout. I look like a model with the lean face, and part of it is the sweating, but I find it to be motivating. It can really only be done once every several days as it seems the body adapts to the high load, so once a week is good. If you're going to hit the sauna too, might want to only do it on a weekend day where you can take a nap afterwards. Sometimes the sweating is so much that by the time I finish the workout I am too tired to do anything else, but I feel fantastic all day long.

I've been taking Niacin while doing breathing exercises and I noticed I was able to hold my breath 20% longer during the flush. I was astounded. My dose was 300 mg. I haven't been able to find any research on this. The breathing exercise also "enhanced" the effects of the flush so that it was much stronger. ( Addendum: Take with a grain of salt, I'm not always able to get a boost from the Niacin, but it may have a combinatory effect with the Wim Hof Breathing Method. )

@johnnovotny50742 жыл бұрын
@@chriszenfone2077 I'm doing the Wim Hof Method breathing exercises. I would take my results with a grain of salt. I don't always get the result. Niacin doesn't improve blood flow to the brain from an old study I read from the 1950s where they measured blood flow to various parts of the body. Niacin only increases blood flow to the face, arms, chest, abodomen, neck, shoulders. It's only one study so take that with a grain of salt too, which is ok because niacin is good for healthy blood preasure. :) There maybe other benefits because the flush has a combinatory effect with the WHF. The WHF is awesome, I try to do it everyday. It totally enhances the flush if you take niacin before doing it. Highly recommended. If you keep drinking water the effect goes away because " B vitamins are water soluble" and are constantly washed away, so you have to replenish them daily. Great news! Thanks a bunch for this info! I'm in the middle of a flush having taken 500 mg right after eating about an hour ago. Feels prickly, and also like there's heat being applied with pressure to my skin, especially on arms, torso. The other night when this came on after I bought & used the product, it was intense and surprising to see my skin appear so red --- as if I'd been out in the hot sun 40 mins without sunscreen. I was a bit concerned, feeling prickly, itchy skin --- but I recalled Dr. Berg saying he likes the flush effect (weird! just kidding 😆lol). I like it because it's a sign it's working which is why I'm taking it. That first night it also helped me to search "Niacin flush" and "Niacin dosage" and learn there's also a prescription form of Niacin. I hope my Mother will be approved by her doctor to try Niacin (instead of the statin he has her on which has unwanted side-effects).

I have just bought ’now foods‘ 500mg per capsule niacin today. After reading some comments I felt really scared to take 500mg dosage after meal. I try to keep the capsule in my mouth with some water but it is too acidic and immediately swallowed it. My first feeling is half a min of stomach cramps and then the flush follows and ease within 30 mins. Thanks a lot for those who share their firsthand experience.

I like to do it I keep the 500 mg capsule in my mouth and take sips of water, slowly introducing the niacin into my body. The flushing occurs within minutes. I can discard the remainder of the capsule if the burning gets intense. 500 mg feels like a bad sunburn for me if the capsule is swallowed immediately.

I started taking it as per Dr. Berg’s recommendation for heart health. After about a week, I ended up breaking out in hives, for the first time ever, all over my body. Dr.Bergiepoo. That's what I call Dr Berg to my siblings when I forward his new or otherwise video to them....haha So I was taking a pinch or about 25mg of pure powdered niacin each night before bed, to prevent a squeezing pain in back of my knees that I would have at least three nights a week for about 2 years. I figured the niacin was slightly expanding me blood vessels and improving circulation, which it did and the pains went away. When I quit taking it for a week, the pain came back. So I took the niacin for about 7 months or so and then had blood work done.LOW AND BEHOLD my HDL WAS GOOD for the first time in my adult life. I could never raise it no matter what. I finally traced it to the niacin since no other changes. It was Iike a miracle. I keep taking it each night. Thanks for this verification Dr Bergiepoo

Your skin is your last-line filter for toxins. Chances are good that the other filters you have are so backed up that your skin bore the brunt of trying to evacuate what the niacin was able to break-down for disposal. Getting your kidneys and liver in good order may improve your experience. As you and other have commented, the quality and amount being used is certainly relevant.

I think I've been getting this flush from my nutritional yeast. I started taking tudca at around the same time so I thought it was the tudca but I narrowed it down and I think this particular brand of nutritional yeast I've been taking must be super high in niacin because it seems to happen every time. I've come to actually really like the feeling but I've learned I need to take it at home and allow time for the flush to subside. I initially took it at work one day and I thought I was having an allergic reaction. My coworkers were terrified.

If you have liver/kidney impairment or undermethylate, high doses (above 100mg in single dose) of nicotinic acid (flushing niacin) will cause adverse effects including visit to the ER / hospital. In such cases, I have seen people developing heart palpitations, all body hives, body heating up, panic attacks, dry mouth, skin blisters & eruptions, high intensity pins & needles etc etc. Bottomline : 1. Have nicotinic acid in 50mg doses and if required you can always titrate up 2. Niacin steals methyl groups, so there maybe need to balance Niacin with methylation support (folate/5MTHF, methyl-b12, choline, SAMe etal). 3. If you want to support NADx , opt for niacinamide instead. Nicotinic acid is only for cholesterol mgmt, & flushing plaque of blood vessels.
