Glad you guys made both of these videos. I do think a lot of churches look at music videos from “Christian pop songs”, see a nord, and think this is it. We need to sing these songs, this exact way, using the same exact gear. It’ll be great. But in reality, it couldn’t be further from the truth. Every worship team, every church has a different context and should not seek to BE or sound ANYTHING OTHER than what God has for them to be like and sound like. If your churches context and budget is an SL88, amen. Use it. My gear: 1 Arturia Keylab 88 MK2 1 PC, running ableton live 11 suite. Sunday keys for tonics, Roland cloud for Roland VST synths. Korg M1/Korg Wavestation VSTs for pads. Pianoteq 8 Steinway D for grand pianos/Rhodes/Wurly/CP80 Hanon B70 for B3 Less is more.

If you don’t know how to take time in using the Nord properly, then honestly, don’t buy one. I tried a CP88, and honestly, thats good enough for many people. I myself, love my Nord, but it just comes down to how well do I respect a keyboard. If you keep loading up Royal Grand 3D… I don’t know what else to tell you lol. Tbh, I’ve seen wayyy too many churches use the Nord, and make it sound so horrible. You just have to take time in working on it, only then will you be able to master such a keyboard. But like I said before, get a CP88, or a Fantom. Or even a used Kronos is really awesome.

^perfectly said! They’re amazing keyboards with great sounds IMO, but I don’t think a lot of churches, people, or groups use them to their fullest ability and because of that, it’s hard to justify that price tag when other keyboards would be perfectly fine (and not put as big of a dent in their budgets). I personally, love my Stage 3 and am learning how to use it all, but it wouldn’t be my first suggestion to, say, churches on a strict or lower budget. It’s very much a complete instrument, but it’s not for everyone.

The Nord's (Stage 2) keybed is nice, but inferior to the Privia 5000 I use at home. Its piano sounds are really good (for a hardware synth), but don't come anywhere near the VSL Synchron CFX I use the Nord to control. This being said, the one consideration I haven't seen talked about a lot, and which I'd bet is really the NUMBER 1 consideration for most guitar-strumming worship directors and MDs if they were honest enough to admit it, is simply how hot it looks (or did look before it got so trendy) on the platform!

Nords are great but it’s interesting that as much as we have a variety choice of piano sounds, we still want the Royal Grand 3D. It cuts through the mix though.
@A10610 ай бұрын
Ehh. I tend to like White Grand lot more. With EQ more at the mids, it gives more presence compared to the RG3D. Just my opinion. But all in all, you have to go stereo on Nord always in order for it to cut through the mix very well. Any piano sound will be fine.

My church has a Nord 4. but we always just use one setting, that is Royal Grand Piano+ Warm pad. And I think that we just can't make good use of it since our skills are not at a very high level. 😅
@A10610 ай бұрын
@@idamusicworldYou should try White Grand. It tends to give more a presence. Also, if one of your musicians has time, they should take the Nord home, and mess around with it. If you want to actually learn it, then you should definitely understand the board. Plus, it really isn’t that hard to learn the Piano and Organ Engine/rest of the effects either. The only hard thing about it, is the Synth engine, in which lot of Moog, and other synth players will understand better. Watch some youtube videos online, for a better understanding. If you have the passion for music, then it shouldn’t be a problem, and if you don’t, well dunno what to tell you.

Software is definitely the way to go if you want that modern day "worship" sound. At the end of the day the best or most ideal way to approach the software route is to have redundancy in your setup incase your Macbook or iPad fails. The way I see it having a Nord offers some of the best if not the best library of piano samples for an "onboard sound module" device that caters to that modern "worship" sound with the added ability to create, purchase and install nice warm pads on to it that fit the ambient side of that modern "worship" sound, making it the best fail safe to switch to or already have mixed in with your software sounds should your Mac or iPad fail. You can still maintain a quality sound for your worship experiences.

Your videos changed me from buying $5k Korg Pa5x to your app and using my Kronos for now as a midi controller. Just waiting on the new ipad to arrive. One thing to remember with a Nord, if your ipad battery fails on sunday morning (from experience), the Nord has your back with built in hardware array of effects at ease, just saying to those who disapprove of it.

Man thats a good choice on keeping the Kronos. That thing is golden. I don’t know if you said this or not, but don’t always use the Kronos as a MIDI controller because you still got some nice sounds in there. To those whose main complaint is price…I was watching a review video for the stage 4 “vs” and they mentioned price as well. He then did a price comparison, adjusting for time and inflation and guess what price that same keyboard would cost today? You guessed it, around $6500. BTW, I just bought a stage 4 from Sam Ash with a 20% discount of $1,140. Jumped on that for $4500.

Hey there, David and Team! Wow, I didn’t see the Nord video then he with some other things lately, that’s pretty wild that you got all that feedback and intense opinions! The one thing that I miss on my 88 keyboard is aftertouch, what I’ve done is use our churches, Nord, or other churches that I play at for Worship Support Network and the Leslie fast and slow rotary on aftertouch, which is totally awesome being an organist originally, on the Hammond B3, having aftertouch to change the Leslie speed phenomenal! So I’m thinking of trading in my curves, while 88 key For another keyboard, and I was considering the nord stage two use just so I could get that aftertouch. QUESTION 1 Does the keyboard the you’re using on your videos have after touch? I got how many pounds it is because I may just want to use the controller. lastly, great job in allowing us to add and use the plug-ins to send keys app, it now I can use the VB three, and the mini Moog , I just wish I could use the Mellotron. QUESTION 2: any news on the pitch bend? Still plan for Sunday Keys? I love to play violin on the keyboard, but just can’t realistically without pitch bend! , I hope to see you at NAMM sometime and I’ll see you at worship innovators I’m sure,God bless!

I'm not a worship based player but I once had the misfortune to be allocated a Nord Stage 2 for a gig in Miami. It was the most stressful and uncomfortable gig I have played with this band. The Nord was clunky, unintuitive and hard to navigate ... however it did sound amazing but I am someone who loves fluidity when playing, especially if I need to switch quickly between patches, and the Nord was not that. I use a Korg Kronos as my main keys and I now have a "NO NORD" markup on my Tech Rider.
@curious01110 ай бұрын
The Nord can be cumbersome. Not as hard as a workstation but it has it's quirks. I've done the controller thing with pianoteq or a mainstage template and it's ok. certainly it's popular, like Nords, and they are everywhere. I'm not sure if the mainstage and ableton things will go on forever or not. Hardware workstations were really hard to program in years past but now some pretty much work just like mainstage and have great built in sound and are expandable. you can literally grab faders and push up a mod wheel just like on controllers with mainstage without the need for backups and jus the fear you feel on stage sometimes. Arrange your scenes, push up the volume and play and its'probably 80% there. Piano sounds are continuing to get better, not Keyscape yet but much fuller and come up instantly. I just prefer that now and I've seen a lot of people keeping Mainstage but going with a cheaper workstation and using the sounds inside.

People are entertaining! As a former church tech director, I always hoped people would spend more time learning their instrument than chasing the new shiny (or Red) thing. If a keyboard is a Nord, Yamaha, Roland, or even Sunday Keys rig, it really doesn't matter and won't perform to the potential without a little time invested to understand it. Replace a Roland you don't know with a Nord (or whatever) you don't know and now you have two things you don't know. Not the best stewardship...

I love pianoteq as well. GREAT sound. But I think that some things edge it out especially if you get really into sound design and need a lot of patches in a set. You can do it all in Mainstage but the setup is not fast. sometimes the new Roland Fantom O 88 is better live. has faders, 16 sounds in one scene, and quick editing with all the knobs and the touchscreen. I can make a patch on it pretty fast, add it to a scene and integrate it in just a few minutes. Or I can set up click and arpeggiators just like Mainstage. It many indeed not sound quite as rich but our congregation will not even know it (unless they design sounds, LOL)

There isn't an issue. Depends on why they want one. If it's all they need and they love it, fair enough. My worship friends buy them because they saw other playing them. You have to keep in mind that the vast majority of players in a church setting are "piano playing" volunteers. They might touch an organ preset or pad every once in awhile. A 1200 dollar Korg Kross would serve that purpose just fine and sound just as good. The Nord brand (even for it's capabilities) is INSANELY overpriced.
