I tried to niche down, and it went terrible 😂. Im sticking to just having fun. People either find it fun or not. We are the artist, this is our artistic expression. Do what you want and nothing else matters.

Here's what to approach I am going to try: I am going to try and spread my wings but not do photography that I don't feel comfortable with or don't have good enough equipment for (like car racing), once - or if - I start selling, I'm going to let the market niche me down for earning purposes, and keep doing photography I like for my hobby, and hope it'll sell too.

For me stock photography is about the challenge and growing my skill and finding my unfair advantage :-) having said that I think creating collections is the way to go if one happens to do a load of shots like you did on the your drinks campaign which in my opinion was brilliant

Awesome video, I had a niche, actually 2, I did Amish lifestyles and Steam Trains. For Stock it, it was bad. Out of 3500 images in stock 72%, were in Trains and Amish. My images were in a lot of, calendars, but not a lot of money. Since starting to watch your channel, I have added still life's, landscapes, wildlife and more. Now 6,000+ images in stock and seeing many sales everyday. Thank You, keep it up.

Fair warning, I'm gonna rant, lol😂 Peter Lik is the Equivalent of Milli Vannili. He got called out and passed the blame. Peter McKinnon's niche is marketing, he's a great speaker, can sell salt to a slug & he's a "magician" lol. A "Jack-of-all-trades, Master-of-none" Personally, I feel McKinnon is average at best when it comes to photography. I know of his work and to me it's "basic". His photo on the coin - basic - there was nothing that made it "special from the rest"..imo lol. Oh remember when he put a mountain in a desert, and thought it was "cool" ..🤦‍♂️🤣 ya, good one Pete👍.. As a Canadian, he doesn't appeal to me, I don't "fanboy" lol. I see Peter McKinnon as a great marketer, companies (can) use him to sell their product, (Canadian commemorative coin - Mint use him to sell a product) young people know him from social media, not because he produces great/niche images. /rant over 😂 I knew what I wanted to be only after I grew up, I was around 44 years young when I figured it all out. 😂 Cheers,

😅 Thanks for the rant 🤣 I will say marketing is one of the most important aspects of business, and both of these guys are incredible marketers. If I can learn anything from them I would prioritize this, I can have the best photo of the world but if I don't know how to sell it, then it just sits on my hard drive 🤷‍♂ Thanks so much for the comment!

I personally don’t believe a photographer has to have a neiche. Maybe some need to, or want to, but not all of us need to, or want to. I personally don’t.

Great video, thank you! I'm way too ADHD to be able to stick to a niche 😅, though that does seem a good idea for those that can. I rotate through about 3: food photos for my blog, beaches & close up flowers.

My niche is photographing native North American plants. That being said, I also photograph landscapes and wildlife. During my recent visit to Houston, Texas, I captured some great city skyline images from various observation points in the city's beautiful green spaces. It is all connected to nature.

My plan for stock was somewhere to park my photo's, and it also served the purpose of being my teacher/critic. It challenges to get better and stretches the imagination, having written all that I am now looking to change direction a little bit.

I totally agree, Thats how I've always treated stock, I find that I am doing more and more for the channel, but it has always been the "extra" for me. I wish you the best in which ever direction you decide to go.

I think there's a lot to be said for going deep with... something, and it doesn't matter what it is. The point of mastering something is not just the subject itself, it's the understanding of what true expertise entails - and that understanding is generalizable. Obviously, this is not simply about photography - the point is to understand the demands for creating quality performance. But if you're interested in Life, then staying wide matters too - don't be a specialist inhabiting a silo: be a generalist who has developed the skills and knowledge of a specialist and try to apply those broadly. A 'niche' can seem like a safe place to be, but niches collapse as the world keeps moving. Just my thoughts... good video - made me laugh - in a past life i was a bartender too. All the best from New Zealand.

That would be a violation of the terms of conditions and I have already received a warning from a couple of agencies, so No, I can't make a video like that.I started seeing a real income (rent payment) when I reached 10000 images, It took about 3 years.
