Tripod is great accessory, but not as much necessity as once was, especially nowadays even two seconds exposure can be done handheld. Where I personally value tripod the most is precision composing, it allow repeatability etc.

You makes some great points sir! It is really incredible how far IBUS/VR has come isn’t it? And I totally get it because even carrying a small 3lbs tripod around Japan with me for hours really adds up over time for example. Especially when IBUS/VR can assist. Precision composing and repeatability! Exactly! Immense value here in improving your photographs. Thank you for watching and leaving your thoughts!

@@deepskypics My photography is not really tripod heavy. I am reluctant to admit, but I got a cheap tripod from Amazon, but I definitely can see your point as it is really flimsy when fully extended. It works fine with my sporadic astrophoto and long exposure projects. Funnily enough, I have an old German tripod back in Hungary (I live in the UK now). That thing is like 30 years old and it is indestructible. I use it for my projects in Budapest when I'm visiting. : )

Manfrotto Salon > tripod tripod head > tripod cambo actus > tripod but a tripod is still good

Manfrotto salon, now that’s something I have not heard of. It looks like something you’d use to hold a camera RIGIDLY still for portrait photography or filming? How do you make the best use of it? Thanks for watching & commenting!

it's used in all commercial still life you put the cambo actus on it and you are golden. big and heavy but has wheels to move around the studio then lock it in place and it won't move@@deepskypics

There is an old saying people who don't know photography talk about megapixels; proficient amateurs talk about lenses; and professionals talk about tripods.

BTW: I use a Manfrotto 3021BN tripod with a 488RC2 ball head. It looks a lot like the one you show in your video. A lot People like to think that image stabilization means you don't need tripods anymore, but they are wrong. Every really razor sharp landscape I've ever taken was done with the tripod rather than hand holding Nikon VR lenses. I also have a 1000mm f10 Meade Maksutov-Cassegrain telephoto mirror lens that works well on the Manfrotto. That one doubles as a spotter scope with a set of eye pieces and a scope diagonal. It's pointless to even pick it up without putting it on a sturdy tripod. BTW: Nice video segment. Thanks.

@@vmstanford Manfrottos are great! Funny story about Manfrotto. I’m from Colorado and did a photo tour with John Fielder, a very famous CO photographer. He spent much of the tour trying to hypnotize me to buy his older Manfrotto tripod. Was a great tour. 100% agreed on VR. Nearly all successful photos I’ve taken have been taken meticulously from a Tripod. You mentioned your cassegrain telescope. I’ve been wondering if my viewer base would get a kick out of some astrophotography segments? Not constellation shots, but through the telescope work: nebulas, galaxies, equipment, software etc…? Super glad you enjoyed my content! Thanks for watching & commenting!
