It is worth it for me! 25 years now since I began. A lot of learning about medicine though contributed to my understanding of this treatment. Dr. Parker wrote a book, Medication Rules for ADHD (2012). HAHAHA YOUR COMEDY.

I started on dexadrine and I didn't notice any benefits and I got side effects even with a low dose. Then I tried concerta and at first it was great. But once they upped my dose I had side effects and the side effects continued even when I went back to a lower dose. Now I am on vyvanse. It has been pretty good so far. I don't take it everyday. Maybe 2-3 times a week because the nature of my life is pretty inconsistent lately. I plan on taking it more, maybe 4-5 days a week starting next year/semester. I do struggle with dehydration and forgetting to eat on all of them. I noticed a high protein breakfast really helps. I also need to be careful of when I drink tea or caffeine. Overall I think it is going pretty well but I don't plan on taking meds forever. What has helped me the most in the past was busy routine, fulfilling social life, green tea, and exercise. I am lacking in most of those areas right now but I hope to build back healthier habits.

Hello Kayla, thank you for sharing your experience! High Protein is important, I eat high protein breakfast myself too. Stable blood sugar + tyrosine which is good for dopamine. Yeah have to be careful with caffeine, for me green tea works quite well since it has less caffeine and l theanine. I agree with, I try to do all those things myself too! Have to socialize more though :) Wish you luck with these! :)

Patrick have you found yourself feeling less emotional on medication? I love the benefits, but I don’t respond as powerfully to things when on it.
@ADHDPatrick2 жыл бұрын
Hello, yeah doses over 18 mg will make me less emotional which is kinda good thing many times for me. I can be more unreactive to situations. There is always going to be some side effect next to benefits, for some the side effects outweigth the benefits.

Do you take breaks from meds at weekends Patrick? Can you please tell me how do you manage the tolerance issue, if there is any for you?
@ADHDPatrick2 жыл бұрын
Hello Hari, yes on weekends I usually dont take it. I have slight tolerance, but I still get by on 18-36 mg dose after all these years. I follow good diet (lots of tyrosine foods) , vitamins/minerals, meditate and exercise often, trying to keep my brain as healthy as possible. I actually have made a video about medication tolerance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/laismKhmorx9fLs

Do you really not get withdrawals from stopping at weekends? Doing that is a horrible experience for me.
@ADHDPatrick2 жыл бұрын
@@betweenworlds4869 not really, its only 2 days and usually I relax on weekends. Sorry to hear that, our brains can differ how they react to this stuff...

I was diagnosed "unspecified ADHD" and they never gave me medication which is the suspicious part, but, I don't doubt I have ADHD, because the attention issues started early in life, not late or anything, so, I don't know, I just find it weird, it makes me feel invalid, I mean, maybe I don't really have ADHD, maybe I just have normal neurotypical attention issues, but I doubt it, it seems WORSE than ADHD, in fact.
@ADHDPatrick2 жыл бұрын
Hey Gnostic Mind Train, I remember you :) Hmm thats interesting...My friend got diagnosed that he had "trauma based ADHD" which I have never heard before. You never know, our brains are so complicated. Even things like wrong diet can cause inflammation in the brain causing issues with attention etc. I had no idea what was wrong with me until I was almost 30 years old and went to a doctor. Lot of people now in my country are going to ADHD tests. Sorry to hear that, stuff like that sucks so much

This is a lack of understanding of what ADHD is, who can have it, and how to treat it. Get another physician who has understanding. Usually word of mouth reference or sometimes advertising

@@donaldbraugh2314 Psychiatrists can't label me accurately or at all, ended up self diagnosing myself with a bunch of stuff, people didn't like that, so I went labelless, stopped therapy years ago, etc. I just seem to be the only one who doesn't fit a label, I'm similar to PTSD, schizotypal personality disorder, and ADHD, but not fully apparently, I'm my own thing. I call it "Jonnyism", named after me. If I meet the Gods, I will ask them in an NDE why I don't fit in. I've seen ghosts too, but it's on camera only, so not hallucinations, it's not dust, it's an unexplained scientific mystery, white transparent flying orb, and Neil deGrasse Tyson said himself the universe brims with mysteries so I accept that, just like with the UFO's. I'm happy being a "Jonnyist".

@@GnosticMindTrain rather then name yourself to a meaningless personality try to nail down the section of the brain each chapter by chapter. This should give you a roadmap. It's called, Change Your Brain Change Your Life, by Daniel Amen, Psychiatrist. His brain scans reveal to many the true reason for not fitting in bc it isn't normal to be incongruent to your social sphere although Adders do struggle with issues. They can be helped.
