It's very rare that Air Canda won't have a jetbridge, out of the 100+ times I've flown with them, the only time we had stairs was in Punta Cana where they don't offer jetbridges.

How was the flight
@AnnoyinglyIrish Жыл бұрын
I flew this exact route in July! I loved Vancouver and I liked the zoned boarding process, it got rid of the rushing and pushing of people and at least I knew whether it was worth standing (I was zone 3) or waiting awhile before I bothered. I also LOVE that they fly direct. Flight time is excellent as well in terms of departure/ arrival, you don’t lose a day either end and the jet lag is easier to manage. I don’t have a huge amount of long-haul experience but I enjoyed my AC flight. Food was decent, so was the free whiskey lol. Seat was comfortable, Crew were very nice, IFE was impressive and the views into Vancouver are breathtaking. I miss Vancouver, I felt so at “home” there. I would have rated them around a 7/10 from my experience. They gave me all I was looking for from a flight. The downside? The guy sitting in the aisle didn’t move for the entire 9 hours, not even for a stretch. I’m still suspicious lol.
@PlanetPatrick Жыл бұрын
Vancouver is wonderful! And it’s great having a direct flight. Last time I did the route it was with Westjet with a longish layover in Calgary. Not quite so much fun. I didn’t like the *operation* of the zoned boarding (I’m used to it in other situations). Or maybe didn’t like so much being in a big queue right at the end. It’s nice to hear your experience
@jeremythebeer86094 ай бұрын
Maybe I do not fly enough, but Air Canada seems fine compared to flying Air Canada Rouge (budget), West Jet, United and Air Transat. You're in a metal tube flying through the air... That's impressive on its own. I just want to get to my destination. (I'll be flying Toronto to Spain in Premium Economy next)
@PlanetPatrick4 ай бұрын
Certainly, that's a valid view. It's when we start comparing that things get stickier, particularly on long haul flights where we have more competition and a variety of service models. Are flying AC to Spain? Hopefully your screen works (mine didn't on the last long haul - or the one before).

I've flown with them maybe 4-5 times internationally and 4-5 times domestically. I've had a mixed experience. I've found the staff to be quite crabby and snippy on more than one occasion. But on other times (particularly the Vancouver - Narita/Osaka route) I've found the staff to be quite pleasant. Thankfully my luggage has never been lost and I've never dealt with any major delays or other issues. However, my father and mother booked business class seats together to Bahamas and they changed my father's seat randomly so now they are separated.

Have flown economy, premium economy , and signature class on Air Canada. In my experience, premium economy is the best value for money. You get some of the perks of signature class such as priority boarding, better food options than economy. But no access to lounges (unless you pay extra), and of course no lie flat seat. But for the cost of signature class with the extra perks etc, you’re still paying well over $3-4k one way. Whereas with economy plus probably in the region of $1800-2000 depending on the time of year. I often bid on upgrades, and have found that you need to bid at least 50% of the maximum bid option. I have always been upgraded if I do this

I’ve had nothing but wonderful crew interactions and good food. One “no-wifi” leg which of course was bothersome but not horrible. I think many AC complaints come from people who have become spoiled rotten brats and entitled to the point of obnoxious. Yes I know AC rates near the bottom of customer satisfaction polls but I can only speak really for mine and my families experiences of late. Cheers and thanks for the Video Patrick

I guess there will always be a mixed bag of experiences and responses to those experiences, particularly in any service like this. In my bit of Europe, people love to hate Ryanair, but it's become one of the most used airlines because it has decent value and hits its arrival times. My experiences of Air Canada haven't been amazing on long haul, but have been better for shorter trips. I'm like my own mixed bag, I guess!

I had the misfortune of travelling from Heathrow to Vancouver with Air Canada. All of the cabin crew, with the exception of one lovely lady who frankly seemed embarrassed by the others, were terrible, brusque, unfriendly and bone idle. One of the male crew actually woke an Asian guy up by shaking his turban and then proceeded to throw the guys meal onto his table when he said he wasn't feeling well and didn't want it. I reported to Air Canada but got no reply. Never again.

I don't travel often, but my experience on Air Canada was marred considerably when they stranded me in Toronto for three days after crossing the Atlantic. Just to get a hotel room and another flight, I had to stand in line for like five or six hours (I lost track eventually), twice. The first time I got redirected to several locations before I found their help desk. The second time they gave me an American style merry-go-round treatment before cancelling the flight right after we boarded. While I was standing in line for the help desk the first time, I called customer service. I hung up after I was put on hold for ninety, yes NINETY, minutes. The second time around I very seriously considered telling the staff that I had a better experience dealing with airport security in Israel (who interrogated me). It would have been the truth, but I was too nice to tell them something like that.

I've made numerous 10-hour economy seat flights on Air Canada. Only one has been uncomfortable and that was because (as the pilot explained) there were two typhoons in the Pacific and he routed the craft between them rather than around them. The momentum of being catapulted between them to our destination saved an hour of time, and presumably quite a bit of jet fuel as a result. A bouncy ride though, making it hard to sleep. Normally, after first food service, I take half a sleeping tablet which gets me 4 hours of deep sleep. I wake up in time for the next "snack" and am refreshed enough to get through landing and completing the journey. I think people complain because their expectations are too high. I believe that some think flight ought to be glamorous. But it's not. Essentially we are boarding a very large bus-like vehicle (less comfortable and more cramped than most buses) which travels on air rather than on roads. At roadside bus stops food is never top tier, and I don't expect to eat well in flight. I'm offered something mid to stave off hunger and thirst--but I also know I will not starve in a period of 10 hours. However, I DO get to travel across an ocean and sometimes part of a continent as well .That used to take weeks to navigate. Now I complete the journey in less than a day while sitting in a chair in the sky. (Not my line, and I paraphrase the idea.) Provided there are no mishaps, delays and cancellations it's all good. That's another story. I have had my return flights cancelled twice (once after 9/11 and again during COVID-19 when ordered to return to Canada from abroad). Inconvenient, certainly, and requiring more patience than I wanted to give, but not the end of the world either.

I'm now looking at booking a return flight from SE Asia (Bangkok to Seattle) in a few months. Looking at "Google Flights" it seems that Air Canada appears to be the cheapest option (and with only one stop -- in VANCOUVER B.C., a stone's throw from SeaTac). ...that's an airline that doesn't usually come up among the options from Seattle to Thailand -- this had me curious... But I'm a bit skeptical now, with all that I've seen in reviews of this airline. Any suggestions, based on your experience? Perhaps better to pay a bit more for a carrier that I've traveled with before? I usually fly with either Korean Air or Singapore.
@cristianboldisor11757 ай бұрын
It depends on what you are comparing it with. Most European long haul carriers are above the AC service wise.I would not even compare them against Emirates or Qatar because those ones are in a different class altogether. Overall, AC is not bad, but there is nothing remarkable about them.

Years ago I was in Business class flying from YVR to ICN and then onto BKK. There was an issue with one lavatory in business class, and the pilot decides to land in Tokyo to get it looked at, a supposed 30 min. delay became 2 hours+ as we sat on the tarmac. Little water or snacks offered during the delay. Scores of people missed their connections in Seoul, although I was lucky to get on the last flight out to Bangkok on Asiana. Never flew AC internationally again.

Planning a trip here, and I was curious (because I keep getting mixed information online) Can you bring one bag or two on board for free, are either free? Is it free with basic economy class or does it cost extra? I only have two bags to bring, my clothes and my laptop bag, not to mention I'll be wearing my favorite jacket for the cold cold Canada.
@PlanetPatrick Жыл бұрын
I think Air Canada's guidance is pretty clear: www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/home/plan/baggage/carry-on.html#/
@thunderverna11 ай бұрын
With basic you will board last and pay extra if you want to reserve a seat. Carry on baggage: You get one carry on bag, which has to go in the luggage rack above, and one personal item like a purse or a laptop or a small daypack. I put my purse into my day pack and that way had the day pack for some hiking we did in Algonquin Park. I was super worried as it was my first time having to pack everything and NOT use checked baggage. But they didn't even look at either of my bags dimensions; so there's that. Your experience w air Canada will depend very much on the route you fly and the time of year (and day!). If comfort is a concern make sure to check seatguru before booking a seat and read all the comments!! We don't have a lot of other options considering what a big country we are... there's WestJet but I find them nerve-wrackingly unreliable, a couple of super cheap eg Flair, and the NKOTB, Porter Air, who I may check out in February as they flight smaller planes and have no middle seats!!

Never had a problem with Air Canada. I assume people know that when things go right, people rarely say anything... but when things go bad, they tend to shout. I still prefer other airlines. However, with any flight, I'm prepared and I also prepare the kids that things can interrupt our vacation, including long long long delays as well as extra days. Sometimes life doesn't go according to plan and you need to adapt. You can provide feedback, advocate, etc. but these are just expected... just as other things in daily life. Yes, interest rates will go up and down... so prepare, plan, and be wise with any financial decision e.g., emergency fund, live under your means, etc. I hope people will learn from what's going on right now... behave if things can go crazy so when they do, you are not caught financially. Choices.

I'm sure the flight wasn't made any better by a guy talking into a recorder. Vloggers are so rude and don't realize they are part of the problem.

You’re entitled to your opinion. Luckily these days “recorders” pick up voices that are quiet too. It’s amazing technology. Being nasty on the internet doesn’t make you seem brave or smart, but I’d defend your right to do it within reasonable and legal limits. Have a lovely day.

Choose another airline when flying do not choose Air Canada bad food bad service small planes cramped high prices just bad service all the way over

Flying generally sucks these days, Air Canada is no better and no worse than the others. I fly as little as I can. Just 1 look at the plastic food served on landfill cramming disposable dishes and microplastic-loaded water bottle, ugh, I’ll bring my own sandwich thanks.

Just flew home to Vancouver from Lisbon on Air Canada with a stop in Montreal. The first leg of this trip was decent on the A330 in economy exit row seat. The mid cabin washroom door would not stay closed and we had to stair into the toilet for 7 hours🤢. The flight from Montreal to YVR was brutal ! We were offered a tiny bag of pretzels in the first hour and nothing else. No water no drinks of any kind for two hours? WTF kind of service is that? Never again

This sounds like a pretty rough experience. Long haul better, but intra-Canada not as hoped for...

Pitiful excuse for an international airline, Even worse is WestJet, Yes , Canadians hate both.
@PlanetPatrick5 ай бұрын
I’ve had an okay experience with Westjet - at least I found the international cabin crew friendly (on the Dublin to Calgary route)

As an old Canadian I have , of course, travelled Air Canada on many occasions. I have never, including my first time in 1973, had a flight where the female flight attendants weren't complete bitches. Sorry if that sounds sexist but it was, indeed, always the women.
@PlanetPatrick11 ай бұрын
It sounds particularly reductive and, I’m afraid, rude.

@@PlanetPatrick Of course it's reductive. There's nothing else to say. The flight attendants were rude.
