Discovered this game on the Switch Genesis Classics Collection and I was honestly blown away by just how fast and chaotic this game is. It's way faster than many other beat em' ups of the time and gives it a clear arcade feel that has aged beautifully.

I remember playing (and finishing) the arcade version of this game on MAME back in the day, but too bad you can't play three players in this version. Also in the arcade version you can change the name of the Alien Busters hot dog stand when you start the game - press the test button and select "Your Store Name" - the default is "SEGA WORLD". Alien Syndrome (the arcade version) is unlockable in the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection if you reach Mission 3 in this game without losing a life.

This is one of many games I used to beat on a regular basis as a kid, especially when my best friend came over and we wanted to play something other than Golden Axe or Streets of Rage (which were our "go-to" Genesis Beat-Em-Ups). I mean, video games were my childhood as I didn't discover other hobbies like tabletop RPGs until high school, and I was always shy around girls despite (read: especially when) having crushes on some of them, so that wasn't really a priority either. I remember I loved the weirdness of Alien Storm more than anything, with garbage cans trying to eat you and far worse things later in the game trying to kill you. I recently tried playing it again (via Sega Classics on the Nintendo Switch) and I couldn't even get past the first boss without losing most of my lives. Man, age really kills whatever skills you had, especially if you haven't played the game in 2.5 decades. :/

Great review. If you press B and C button at the same time, you do a move that pushes the enemy back. Also, there is a cheat you can look up that lets you start with up to 9 credits just in case you ever want to make it to the end. Love the aesthetic. Aliens meets The Thing meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I like picking the chick with the flamethrower and pretending I'm Ripley.

Goodness! Killing monsters with humorous results never gets old. I love this game. And the cart is not particularly expensive. Never had this back in the day. Found it on an Atgames Genesis belt buckle/single slice toaster unit in 2015 and it was like a message in the bottle. I had to get a cart for my collection (mostly due to the Atgames terrible sound). One thing of interest, watch videos of the actual arcade machines demo mode and they show the Stormers in front of a food truck which really puts the charm over the top. Thanks SNES Drunk!! Great video!

A classic from my childhood, the kind of game which is a blast to play with a friend. Fun fact (spoiler alert?) it's got the dumbest maze ever made for a game, just go always for the last door in every room and you'll get to the last gallery eventually. I recall briefly playing this in my childhood, in the 90's, as one of many games lent to us at the time. Then I tried it again, years later, and thought it felt clunky and unfun. Fast-forward again, to today, when I just dumped my Mega Drive Classics library from Steam onto my Wii U. Suddenly I'm enjoying the game again, so I'll surely have to try to get a 2-player session in to try to get through the entire thing.
