I recently bought the new MG 3 Essence petrol in red for my teenage daughter. We LOVE it. Yes it's more expensive than the old model but worth the money. The biggest thing for me is all the safety features now included in the new model and it should achieve a five star ancap rating - whereas the old one had zero safety rating. The bells and whistles are great to have, but I also wanted my daughter to be safe.

It looks much better than the old model, and comparatively not THAT much more expensive. It's a 100% redesign. Glad you're enjoying yours.

The old MG3, while I didn't like it personally, would be perfect for an elderly person who is doing 5000km a year, going to the shops. However, compared to the new MG3, it's night and day. MG has really step up the MG3 substantially as you clearly illustrated in your video. However, another worthwhile vehicle that is worth consideration that is similarly priced to the MG3, is the new Suzuki Swift. I personally believe while cars are getting expensive overall, the Swift still hold it's own in the subcompact market. I would love you to consider trying out the new Swift and see how it compares to the new MG3.

Thanks mate, I'll test drive this soon to complete the review fully, but I also think they've stepped up massively and give you a lot more for $5-6k extra. Yeah Suzuki has been off my radar for far too long, I think I should visit them and have a closer look at their line-up of cars in 2024.

I drove the petrol MG3 at Alto MG on Friday, it’s an incredible improvement. The Hybrid is very powerful for a little car, the 1.5 CVT is good too. I’ll be getting myself one.

I'll test-drive it too, for sure, just didn't have time yet

The CVT would put me off.Nissan always had reliability issues with them.

This looks like a solid upgrade over the old mg3 But I think I could get a better car for less money on the used market And even if you don’t know about cars, I think you could get maybe a family member or friend who is a car nerd to help Maybe if you’re like an elderly person who just needs to go to the shops it’s fine

On the used car market - definitely better options in terms of value for money, such as a used Toyota with not many Kms. You won't get a brand new car smell and a warranty with that though! Plus, you don't know what the previous owner was doing in that old car and some people would care - not everyone, of course... So there are trade-offs everywhere.

@@ValueCarsAU in Western Australia RAC will send out a mechanic to check any potential used car you may want to buy I’m sure other states have similar things Everything else can be sorted with a good detail But you’re correct some people won’t buy used and that’s their choice, but I think I could get a much better car for cheaper with a bit of knowledge of what to buy and what to avoid (but that’s more of an enthusiast approach )
@BarnzTT3 ай бұрын
@@himynameisryan I did that, and the check came out fine. However, the car only lasted for 2 years. You can never say with used vehicles.

Hey Dimitri, It looks great and is at a great price point. IMHO those on a budget should consider the previous model, it's mostly bells and whistles. Any vehicle with Appl C/P or Android Auto will have great navigation. I have no issues with Chinese vehicle manufacturers I have a Haval H6 and love it. Buying a car, especially you first car is a very financially driven consideration. If you can afford a new MG3 go for it, 7 years warranty! If you cant' but want a new car hunt down the older model, 7 years warranty (again). Those on the cheaper end of a used car maybe search for an older Mazda or Toyota. Having said that, always get a pre purchase inspection. Thanks Dimitri!!!

I'll test drive it and explore the "bells and whistles" part as even those look like they've changed the whole driving experience for the better.

I think a lot of chinese cars ,i know the MG suv have GM engines,which is a worry for a start ,might last 100.000 ?

Who knows, and who realistically would keep any of such cars for 100,000 kms anyway? 🤷♀️

I'm sorry but $5K more puts this in a whole other category. T he old one is successful because it is cheap. At $26K it now competes against other, much better cars. For that money you can get a really good older car.
@ValueCarsAU2 ай бұрын
I agree, this now competes with other range of cars, totally. However, it's also a MUCH better and VERY different car. They absolutely lost the competitive "cheap car" edge, but gained in quality and the rest of it.
