If you see there's a certification for using the platform, you know that shit ain't easy.

Lately they've made some improvements, but overall...YOU ARE SO RIGHT! It would help if they could recognize, for example, that people tend to understand their own names ('tags') instead of stuff like 'i-15184afffe232'

What I love about Linode is the reliability, banks here in Africa are not reliable and block the payments many times for no clear reason. Other VPS services cut my service and don't wait me to fix the payment immediately. If Linode cuts my service it's because I'm already in the next month and was given enough time to either fix the issue or ask for extension after explaining why that happened. That is the main reason I'll stick with them so my clients can have reliable service regardless of my bank issues. Maybe this is because I've been using them for more than 6 years. Also their customer care is the best in my experience, and their services add new features regularly.

Great presentation. Very clear speaker. AWS - We set up some free servers. One we were not using started billing us. Not much. We had enabled a feature for our test install. But it emphasizes the complexity of knowing what you would pay. After a year, we have no idea what it would cost if we fully hosted on AWS. Azure is interesting to us because our product uses SQL backend.

Comments on Google - For sure, Google has terrible management interfaces. 500 things to do. Support recommends 5. Can I put those 5 in favorites? Nope. You have to remember the 12 clicks to find them every time.

I feel like a cloud service isn’t worth using if it’s so complicated that you can devote your whole career to and still not understand it all, it shouldn’t be that complicated. For AWS, Amazon should split up the platform into 3 parts so each part can be a lot more simplified, instead of putting it all in one mountain and you have to sift your way through. That’s why I go with smaller more simplified platforms.

I would love a breakdown looking more in-depth at the major players. Something like AWS vs GCP and whether or not they can replace something like Bluehost for a small business
@Craylor3 жыл бұрын
Great idea! AWS or GCP could definitely replace a solution like Bluehost and probably offer a faster and more reliable end product, but you really have to have someone who knows what they are doing managing it. Cloud platforms have very complex panels and require a lot of knowledge to navigate.

If you are looking for an easy way, then it is better to pay attention to G-core labs. They are much easier to work with than Azure.

AWS can be simple...but overtime, the more sophistication and capability that is added, the harder it is to see the forest for the trees, so to speak.

For the techies you could have talked about technical infrastructure bits offered. For instance the GC pub-sub is MUCH more useful and cost effective than anything similar on AWS imho.
@akin2420023 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I started with AWS, but got won over with GCP after finding out it saves 40% to 50% for similar cloud service. VMs 40%+ in savings. AWS only wins in lowest latency.

I like to use GCP because of my android apps, is easy once you get used to. Besides I like to have full control, I like the wordpress thingy, but sometimes, so many plugins that made my life easy, makes me lazy no to learn. Is hard doing things from the ground up but the learning does not have price. Not to mention that I'm paying little to no money for hosting.

Totally! If you’re doing a custom platform beyond a basic website, using a cloud platform is a must.

AWS may not be in Colleges but there are courses that make you AWS Certified Operator so yeah there's classes for it. If you don't learn it then it's a waste of time and money but if you do then you chose the best in its class.

whats the difference between ec2 and lamda functions?
@akin2420022 жыл бұрын
Lamda functions are for rarely used functions or programs. Great for quartly reports or weekly unit tests. You only get billed when the program or functions are used, aka event driven. EC2 are just VMs with the capability to include docker containers and Kubernetes. This is where your most frequently used programs are used. Although you will get billed as long as the VMs are on, regardless if the programs are being used or not.

Quick question All the above you mentioned could web host then why do i need to go to another web hosting company/
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
It's personal preference! All of these cloud platforms are capable of hosting your website. It's really overkill to have your own server just to host one website, though, and that's what these platforms are offering. If you want shared web hosting where your site is put on a server with many other sites, you'll need to get that from a place like Namecheap or Dreamhost.

If you want simple e-commerce, I would go with Shopify if you can afford it. Otherwise, WooCommerce (WordPress plugin) and any web hosting will work. WooCommerce is more cluttered and hard to use though.

@ayaneshsarkar78044 жыл бұрын
I love all these, even mine is hosted there. But in India, I believe buyers don't even know the name of these, they just want you to host on cPanel. AWS is too "tough" to understand for them.
@Craylor4 жыл бұрын
To be honest, that's common around here too. These platforms are for enthusiasts or those who need their own server for a specific purpose. The majority of websites are hosted on shared or managed hosting, and the average person can get around cPanel good enough to get the job done.
@ayaneshsarkar78044 жыл бұрын
@@Craylor you are right. But as a Dev, I know there are few limitations in shared hosting. You don't even get to notice those in small projects but if the project is enterprise level you need more freedom when you are accessing SSH. There's no problem with the VPS, but I believe AWS is much better when it comes to that. Again, you are right, cPanel is user friendly and it's easier for the client.
