This series may be based on a real story but all of the facts are wrong. The wagon train of pioneers was attacked by Mormons dressed up as Piute Indians. They didn't wear brown bags over their heads. The Piute Indians were also part of the mob that attacked the pioneers. The attack went on for several days. The Mormons then appeared as good guys and they lied to the settlers. They told the pioneers that if they gave up their rifles and pistols the Mormons would lead them to safety. The pioneers then disarmed and they were soon taken into custody by the Mormons. The men and women were then divided into two different groups. The Indians took the women. And the Mormons took the men. Both groups were then lined up and gunned down. Only children under the age of four were spared. In total one hundred and twenty people were killed. Only one Mormon was tried and executed for the crime. Before he died he implicated Brigham Young and other big shots in the church. No clear reason for the slaughter was ever given.

Excellent summary! Although I'd say the biggest reason for the attack on the Baker-Fancher train was greed. It was the richest and best-equipped wagon train that had passed through Salt Lake.
