I just had my run in with an Amway worker this past week. This dude, roughly my own age, just randomly started chatting with me at Starbucks. He was very friendly, wore a button up shirt with a blazer and slacks, and looked generally well put together. So I just kinda rolled with it since he seemed like a nice dude and maybe that was just his personality; so after talking for a few minutes he asked about my work and if Id like to make some extra money on the side. I was like sure, who wouldn't mind a few extra bucks? However he kept side skirting my questions regarding how I would be going about making this extra cash, which was continuously raising my BS-o-meter. Buuut me being an asshole/bored/curious I let it continue and set up a meeting with him a few days later. We met back up at Starbucks where we chatted about random shit, basically to the point that none of it had to do with the purpose of the entire meeting. So when I brought that up, he continued to skirt the subject. That's when I mentioned that he made the whole scenario feel super pyramid scheme-y (Since Ive had some experiences with them in the past), to which the guy responded "Oh no, this isnt a pyramid scheme. Im not trying to sell you anything"..... So he continued ignoring my questions and rebutted with saying that he wanted to continue getting to know me until he felt that I would be a good fit for the position. In which my curiosity got the better of me so I kept rolling with it. But this is where Im really thinking either this guy is either seriously bullshitting me or this dudes going to give me a million dollars. So we ended up meeting a third time where he finally told me what this whole run around was about, which happened to be Amway. Technically it wasnt "Amway", but if you became good enough at your own "personal business", you could work your way into Amway??? or some such horseshit. Which this is where it became hysterical, since I called him out on the pyramid scheme idea he kept trying to describe the job without saying or eluding to the word pyramid.... where he failed because describing the job by continuously drawing fucking pyramids..... By that point this dude has already wasted 2 of my evenings so my annoyance and "called it" vibes were probably palpable a block away. My biggest red flag was when he actually talked to me in the first place. People dont just randomly start talking to me, my resting bitch face is pretty top notch. On top of that, people in my town rarely ever just talk to random strangers for the funsies. My second biggest red flag is that normal people dont just walk up to you and ask if you would like a job.... Thats not how that works. The only reason people approach you and ask if you want to make some extra cash/make a shit ton of easy money is if they want you for manual labor or trying to recruit you for porn (or so my research leads me to believe).

Yeah, sounds like a lot of the same red flags. I like how it's almost like a bad game of taboo with how they try to avoid the words "pyramid scheme". Thank you for sharing, glad to know I'm not the only one that's had this experience with them.

I thought I was potentially meeting my first friend in my new city... nope just an Amway guy, I could tell by how he never could tell me what it was that he did. So I asked him right away, is it amway? He said we work with Amway. I knew it was too good to be true.
