It wasn’t worth it for me and a lot others. In high school I took auto body. Learned a lot from that. After that I went to UTI. Horrible school. I in my opinion am a really good painter. Did better than any of the kids in my class because of my experience paining 2 years in high school. Yet in UTI student of the corse was based off of test grades. Not performance. The equipment there was always broken. Spent alot of time in a class room. In high school I had all shop time and state of the art equipment sata 5000b spray guns and at the time 2016s newest spray booths. Snap on boxes and Norton air tools as well as all new snap on tools and Norton sand paper and American blue tape. Each person had a box in high school. At UTI the tools were harbor freight like. And 1 box per 5 students. Welding class the welders were broken and only a few of us could weld. I could go on and on about how much money has been wasted. My best advice is to just go into a shop and start at the bottom and really show interest. No shop I’ve went to cared about my ICAR or ASE certs I’ve earned thru high school and UTI

I watched the video 5:17, your right. Before considering going to school, go work in a shop and just get a taste of what it’s like. You will realize real quick why you don’t need to go to school and maybe why you wouldn’t want to work in the business for the rest of your life. The atmosphere is something to experience, it is fun and there is a forever amount of learning especially with the way cars evolve, but there are big downsides. I don’t want to go into them but in order to be great in the business you will have screwed up a lot and learn from it, by the time your a professional you’ll say “omg that costed 100,000 cuts, why didn’t I work in the office”... I have been working in a heavy collision repair shop for 10 years now, I have been doing the big jobs for at least 6 of those years, I specialize in aluminum body’s mainly jaguar, Land Rover. I love what I do, many times I wish I didn’t do it. It’s hard to find people nowadays because the job can suck. My moral about not going to college or even pay for some kind of learning, is because in my journey I learned that to climb that ladder and be one of the best ; takes real ambition, when others see that you will find mentors all around you to guide you the way.

This is a cool video. I work for WyoTech and want to point out that our school costs $29,000 for the entire program, which includes a variety of options. The school is 9 months long and our students attend class 8 hours and 20 minutes per day. You mention a lot of book work in your school's program, but that is not the case at WyoTech. For example, in the collision classes, students need to change out 40 different panels, they need to repair 40 dents, etc... When our students graduate, they are prepared to be the best entry level techs at their respective shops. That way they will move through the beginning parts of their career and advance to the more technical areas. Nothing overrides experience, but a good education will allow you to escape the doldrums of the industry and do the fun stuff. Not all colleges are created equal. Schools like UTI are corporate schools that focus on profits. We are a family owned school of 700 students located in Laramie, Wyoming. I appreciate that you put us on the list of the big schools, but we definitely are not one of the big schools. We just have a big reputation.

Thanks for the reply! This videos is def a bit outdated now haha, I should make a part 2, but wyotech was def my number once choice I simply couldn’t afford it at that time, the local college was able to offer me grants, I’m sure it’s a great school though!

@1975steele
@1975steele 2 жыл бұрын
@@losxlakers that was a company called Corinthian Colleges. Jim Mathis is the owner now. He graduated from WyoTech in 1976. The Laramie, Wyoming campus is the only WyoTech that exists now. The owner has turned it into the best technical school in the country. The school in Long Beach and what WyoTech is now has nothing in common but the name. The name means Wyoming Technical Institute.

A program that costs $29,000 for a career where you'll be making 40-50k a year (at least for the first several years). That's outrageously expensive! I know certain trade schools where their auto-body and auto mechanic programs only cost $2000.
@1975steele
@1975steele 2 жыл бұрын
@@voidalchemy_stratorusofficial WyoTech is definitely not right for everyone. I have been in this industry for over 2 decades and I know that when a young person is properly trained that they will have a far better career than someone who learns as they go. The 2k programs you are referring to are public schools that are funded by tax payers. That school may cost the student 2k, but it costs communities far more. I would challenge you to look at public entities and really scrutinize how financially and logistically successful they are. I for one do not rely on government run programs to dictate my life or the lives of my family. What I do know is that students that graduate from WyoTech are generally very successful in their careers. As a parent of 4, my kid's success in their careers is at the top of what I care about. If it costs 29k to help them to get their careers going in the right direction, it is a small price to pay.
